Q: Denard's Arm Motion when releasing the football?

***Apologies for the Scary Title. No Harm Intended***

Question to those who have coached or know more of the mechanical side of the sport: how does Denard's release in the day 26 video (at the end) compare to what we saw from him last year? I know you can only take so much from one play... but last year it seemed that ALL of his passes were lasers of various distances, while that pass had significant arch to it.

Curious to hear from those who know

I upvoted the OP for the sole reason the they were indirectly responsible for the posting of this picture.

Also, I meant to downvote you because you're only supposed to say "lol" but I accidentally selected "funny".  You squeaked by this time, but I'm keeping an eye on you.

Q: Denard's Throwing Mechanics

Much better (and less deadly) title.  My condolences to the families of the individuals whose head asploded upon reading the original title.

I didn't really notice a difference. Seemed like he still was just chucking it down the field on the deep pass. On the money though so not going to complain.

I'm also by no means an expert so my opinion's essentially worthless, but figure I should offer something up now that title is less rampage-inducing

Well, that title is terrifying.

I assume you mean the Day 26 video.  Frankly, it's too hard to say.  It's one throw from a poor angle and from a QB not wearing pads.  That said, you could tell the technique was pretty solid.  The ball was tight to his head, not swinging out much, and it looked like a good overhead throw.  (Again, at least from what I could tell with that camera work.)  All of those things are good, and comparable to what he did some last year, when his shoulder was 100%.

The air under the ball is not so much a technique issue as a mental issue.  That looked like a well-thrown ball, but that's all that I can say at this point.

Denard is a tremendous athelete with a desire to play football at the University of Michigan.

I have all the confindence in Al Borges to mentor and touch Denard the right way to help mold him into a quarterback that will help Michigan win B1G championships and restore the roar, I mean legacy here at the Michigan, Period.

Thanks for the question. Oh yeah, We not rebuilding!

p.s. I wrote this one sentence paragraph in honor of my friend Drew Sharp. Stay classy!(pointing)

Not only is it better than porn, you'll see a bunch of downfield throws with nice touch.  I caught Odoms against ND, tons against UMass, a couple against Illinois, TD to Odoms in the bowl game, two nice ones against Wisconsin, etc., all just from a quick perusal of one clip.

Denard has always had pretty good mechanics and throwing motion.  For a guy who also led the conference in rushing he has ridiculously good passing ability (he's a much better thrower than a guy like Vince Young was at the same stage in his career).  He just needed a little time to work on making decisions under game conditions (like any young QB).  That will continue to improve this year and Denard will be awesome, by air or by land.
