PSU OC Hire- Andy Kotelnicki of KU
Multiple reports indicating that Andy Kotelnicki is James Franklin's sixth offensive coordinator. KU has obviously improved dramatically in the brief period Lance Leipold has been there. Kotelnicki has been with Leipold since his days at UW-Whitewater, including at Buffalo.
PSU is off the schedule for at least the next couple of years, and they may still lose Manny Diaz, but this is job one done.
Best of luck to Mr. Kotelnicki and please familiarize yourself with the state of State College's nearby bus tires.

I don't know how much is Leipold vs. him behind their offense, but seems like would be PSU's best OC since Moorhead. KU's run game is fascinating and tricky as hell.

Seems like a great fit for Drew Allar... edit: and their OL...

I will be interested to see if Singelton stays. The PSU beat seemed pretty down on the amount of work he was getting, even if he's probably the bigger explosive threat.

They did fun stuff for sure.

Interesting hire

Got them as a top 10 offense according to FEI - not bad for KU.
Good luck with everything, good sir, and prepare to be Frames Janklin'd.
Also you may want to find out why all of their offensive lines are always garbage.

Yeah was going to say this. Yurcich was pretty damn successful everywhere else he went (granted if you want to say the Oklahoma State offenses might have been Gundy, fine). All of a sudden he forgot how to coach or was he hamstrung?
Good hire though. They need to get a good OL coach next.

I wonder if he is a package deal to include Jalen Daniel? Frames needs an offense and Allar isn’t going to get them to the promised land.

A great hire, unfortunately.
Then again, Frames can ruin anyone.

I mean Moorehead without Saquon is....just antoher 10-2 James Franklin team, no? Seems to be their lot in life over in Happy Valley

Field goal Franklin's new scapegoat

Seems like a good hire for them. Not sorry they're off the schedule for at least the next year or two.

Franklin consistently makes great assistant coach hires. I could see him landing Jim Leonard if Diaz gets the call at Duke.

Who will decide when to go for it on fourth down?
If Franklin is still responsible for those calls - and, they don’t improve their OL, it’s difficult to say anything changes.

The bar is set pretty low over there in Happy Valley. Kotelnicki will look like a hero over there.

6 is a charm.

Unfortunate for them and fortuitous for everyone else they didn't also bring Lance Leipold with Kotelnicki to take over in State College.

I talked to Andy for 3 hours at a Buffalo Bisons minor league game. Super nice guy.

It's a very good hire. James Franklin's in-game decisions still need improvement, but Penn State should be legitimate Big Ten title contenders next season.

Did he or Leipold call plays? This could be a Gattis situation where schematically he’s good but does the play calling have rhythm and flow. Someone who knows might be able to chime in but it seems like a lot of that offense was Leipold. Who has been the play caller all this time?

That seems like a great hire for them. Hopefully he's gone by the time Michigan sees them on the schedule again.

I was at last Saturday nights Kansas at Cincinnati game. I didn’t know too much about KU prior to that game (hadnt seen any of their games on TV over the course of the season), but it was a fun offense, with quite a bit of QB running. Disclaimers that they scored a bunch of points in that game against a dispirited Bearcats team that had packed it in.
Does that fit the current PSU personnel? Well, that’s a definite TBD. But hope springs eternal ……..

This is going to be different than what PSU is used to running. They run spread offense with single wing elements to the scheme. It's fun to see 2 QBs on the field and do funky stuff with it. It's a lot of triple option, veer, etc.
You can be sure that they'll be looking for asskicker on OL and mobile QBs. Allar doesn't fit the system at all, but we'll see if he'll stay.
