PSU OC Hire- Andy Kotelnicki of KU

Submitted by jimmyshi03 on November 30th, 2023 at 4:10 PM

Multiple reports indicating that Andy Kotelnicki is James Franklin's sixth offensive coordinator. KU has obviously improved dramatically in the brief period Lance Leipold has been there. Kotelnicki has been with Leipold since his days at UW-Whitewater, including at Buffalo.

PSU is off the schedule for at least the next couple of years, and they may still lose Manny Diaz, but this is job one done.

Best of luck to Mr. Kotelnicki and please familiarize yourself with the state of State College's nearby bus tires.

Got them as a top 10 offense according to FEI - not bad for KU.

Good luck with everything, good sir, and prepare to be Frames Janklin'd.

Also you may want to find out why all of their offensive lines are always garbage.

I wonder if he is a package deal to include Jalen Daniel?  Frames needs an offense and Allar isn’t going to get them to the promised land.

Who will decide when to go for it on fourth down?

If Franklin is still responsible for those calls - and, they don’t improve their OL, it’s difficult to say anything changes.

Unfortunate for them and fortuitous for everyone else they didn't also bring Lance Leipold with Kotelnicki to take over in State College.

It's a very good hire. James Franklin's in-game decisions still need improvement, but Penn State should be legitimate Big Ten title contenders next season.

Did he or Leipold call plays? This could be a Gattis situation where schematically he’s good but does the play calling have rhythm and flow. Someone who knows might be able to chime in but it seems like a lot of that offense was Leipold. Who has been the play caller all this time?

I was at last Saturday nights Kansas at Cincinnati game.  I didn’t know too much about KU prior to that game (hadnt seen any of their games on TV over the course of the season), but it was a fun offense, with quite a bit of QB running.  Disclaimers that they scored a bunch of points in that game against a dispirited Bearcats team that had packed it in.

Does that fit the current PSU personnel?  Well, that’s a definite TBD.  But hope springs eternal ……..

This is going to be different than what PSU is used to running. They run spread offense with single wing elements to the scheme. It's fun to see 2 QBs on the field and do funky stuff with it. It's a lot of triple option, veer, etc.

You can be sure that they'll be looking for asskicker on OL and mobile QBs. Allar doesn't fit the system at all, but we'll see if he'll stay.
