Congratulations to her!
The scholarship means you have to buy her a new car, right?

Congrats! Proud Dad of two recent grads, and a third, who was accepted, but chose another school. We don't speak to him any more but, nice kid.
I could never get in with today's requirements!

I could never get in with today's requirements!
I had really good grades and a strong SAT back in 1971, and that wouldn't even get me on the wait list for Michigan today.

Kids are quicker, smarter & faster today than ever before because access to information is so easy and efficient. My 3 year old already knows how to navigate around an iPhone. It's crazy.
I vividly remember slogging off to libraries and spending chunks of time looking for books and paging through them to find the information I needed to do school work. And if I needed to use a computer I made the walk to the campus computing centers, often times having to take a number because the computers were all in use.
The things I am able to accomplish at work today, in a given amount of time, is orders of magnitude greater than when I started my career in 1994. But expectations grew accordingly as well. College preparedness and admissions have taken similar leaps.
So, us old folks shouldn't sell ourselves short! Everything is relative.

She is way smarter than me for sure

Same boat here: three accepted, two chose UM. Really lucky to have that shared experience, although one suffered through the Rich Rod days as a student.

Similar. My sons grew up in Ann Arbor, and one returned for games and UM's baseball camp. He was all in for Michigan but then applied elsewhere because it better suited what he wanted to study.
So as a father, I'm proud of his savvy decision making.
But as a Michigan guy, SMH.

My daughter grew up in A2 and was accepted by Michigan, so naturally my wife and I were hopeful she'd choose to go to school here for the usual emotional and financial reasons.
Nah—instead she chose to attend Wisconsin because they had a study abroad program she liked.

Kids! Amirite?

Congratulations! She must be quite the student to get an academic scholarship.
My son is in the second semester of his sophomore year. Enjoy the ride, as it does go by quickly.

She is brilliant. It was just yesterday I was carrying her like a football and now she's off to University.

Congrats ???
I have been in this mindset that this is so far away for me, but I just realized that when your kid (and all the other kids getting their letters) graduates, my oldest will be ready to start applying to colleges. Life just goes too fast.

Congratulations! That's wonderful.

Congrats!

My students started getting their acceptance letters as well! It is always good to see them ending their high school journey to begin their new journey. I'm always telling them stories about being in Ann Arbor and going to Michigan, school appropriate of course!

Congrats!!!

Mine as well! It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!

Congrats to all the new Block M kids and their proud parents!
I can’t wait for the day my son gets accepted, only for his dad to tell him that there’s no way we can afford out of state tuition.

My wife and I are UM alum that live in Ohio. Fortunately, my daughters would choose any school before that school in Columbus and my youngest is a Jr at UM now. It's an investment that we're proud to make.

Awesome news and so happy for you and her! Hope you can celebrate as a family!

Unfortunately no in person celebration, I live in Canada and she is in Michigan with her mom. Thank goodness for Facetime!

Can you imagine today's students putting up with having to read articles/books that the professor placed on reserve in the UGLI?
That was one of the worst things we had to put up with (academically speaking) on my years of 1971-75.

Anyone remember those damn course packs? The big ass paper supplements to classes, like the actual books weren’t enough?!
February 2nd, 2021 at 11:54 AM ^
that's awesome, congrats!

Way to raise a Brainiac. I’m glad I got into UM when I did, back in the day. It was easier and cheaper.

First and foremost, congratulations to her and we welcome her to the Wolverine family.
Second, this reminds me that my own kids are 14 and 13 and this period of life is not that far away for me.
