Found out my oldest got excepted to Michigan yesterday. I’m so unbelievably proud of her. LSA. She’s been going to Michigan football games with me her whole life. It was her dream school and of course mine for her. Just wanted to take a moment and brag. Go Blue forever…Beat sparty

Congratulations to you and your daughter!

I had a similar thing with my daughter 12 years ago.  She went to football games with us and would point at the student section and say she'll be sitting over there some day and then that day happened!

My daughter was accepted into LS&A yesterday as well.  We live out of state so I am afraid of the projected tuition bill! It's kind of disappointing to see schools like Georgia, Alabama, Miami (YTM), Missouri ante up huge scholarship dollars while Michigan doesn't seem to give out anything.  It's probably going to come down to Michigan, Northwestern, or USC for her..and indentured servitude for me!

Dude send her to where the scholarship money is! I work in HR and where your undergrad degree is from means almost nothing. It’s all about where you intern and grad school.

I would give completely equal weight to someone who went to Michigan vs Georgia. Georgia is a good school!

Almost exactly 10 years ago, I remember getting a call from my sister who sounded so hysterical I couldn't understand what she was saying. I thought someone had died; she had actually just gotten accepted off the early-whatever deferred list. Definitely a proud brother moment. The coolest part is that my last year of law school overlapped with her freshman year, so despite the large age gap we got a year together on campus.

That’s awesome.  Congratulations!

My oldest had a fair shot at being accepted but decided she wanted to go somewhere no one in our family has attended.  Still TBD which school but it won’t be Michigan.  A little sad but also proud she wants to blaze her own path.

Congrats!  My daughter graduated from Michigan in 2018 and I think it was one of the best things she could have done.

A little free advice:

Be ready for ups and downs, especially freshman year. I remember my daughter’s first chemistry test and how poorly she did on it.  Trying to console her, I said, “college is different, you have to adopt a different method and strategy to studying and test taking.”  My daughter said, “no, Dad. It’s probably that I just suck at chemistry.”  She went on to ace both Orgo and Orgo II, and loved both,

Roommates and friends. My daughter’s room mate partied her way out of Michigan freshman year.  My daughter doesn’t drink, and they were so different that my daughter said there were whole weeks that her roommate didn’t say anything to her. Meanwhile, my daughter built a great network of friends that she stays close to to this day. The roommate, who was on track to flunk out, transferred to an Ivy League school.

Make Michigan hers. With so many things to do and be involved in, she’ll find ways to make the experience special and meaningful to her. My daughter to this day doesn’t really like Michigan sports, with the exception of hockey. But she loves the Arb, the beauty and history of campus, and the tuna salad sandwich at Zingerman’s.
