Predictions for the next 4 days?

Submitted by michgoblue on
Slow couple of days on the board, so I figured I would throw out the following question. What does everyone here expect to happen on the cc front over the upcoming 3-4 days. Personally, I see one of three possibilities transpiring:

1. Tomorrow afternoon, M holds a press conference at which Hoke announces that he is resigning effective the end of the season. He gets to walk out on his own terms to some extent, add a good amount of intrigue for the game and possibly give his players the shot in the arm they have desperately needed all season. If I were Hoke, I would rather do this than go through the "evaluation" a day or so later.

2. No announcement, we play OSU and lose, likely badly. I expect that Hackett would conduct his evaluation in short order and that Hoke would be relieved of his job in a Monday or Tuesday presser.

3. We win the game. I expect that Hoke is still gone, but the evaluation takes more than a day or so, as there will be some entrenched factions arguing for one more year, and Hackett will need to look like he is at least being thorough.

Assuming that it's 1 or 2, what is the timing of the new hire? Other than a schiano, every other likely coach is going to be busy completing their nfl season or preparing for a bowl game. Unfortunately, I expect that this means that we may have a vacancy for 3-4 weeks in December.

Well, after losing at home to Seattle, the 49ers probably wont make the playoffs.  It's highly unlikely the NFC West will get 3 teams in, especially with the Lions looking like they could win 11 (!!!!) games and the Packers winning the division along with easier schedules for the Cowboys and Eagles to close the season.  Also, the NFC South is going to waste a playoff spot on a team with a losing record...Jim may be available to speak sooner than we expected

I'm at the point where if UM doesn't get Jim/John Harbaugh then maybe it'd be better to have Hoke come back for one more year.  I'd be very pessimistic about next season of course (who will be the QB?) but I'm not sure about Schiano and I don't want Miles (too old, weird, etc.). I'm also not sure we should jump at some random coordinator...I'd feel pessimistic about the next 5 years.  The OSU OC might be great but who'd be his QB?  There's NOBODY, we'd be back at 2008 I fear.  Neg away, but I just don't know and I don't trust Hackett (though I trust him much more than Brandon).

I don't agree having Hoke back another year would help--this is true in almost any circumstance. However, I do think the frequent assertions that we should look hard at top coordinators, like Herman, are weird. It just seems like the position requires a lot of management skills and experience distinct from coordinator responsibilities, and that it would be quite a gamble to bring on anyone who hasn't had a HC job before.

No Hoke for next year, absolutely correct unless all you've got available for this job is Mike Debord...then he wouldn't be so bad imo.  I exaggerate with that example but not by much if Hackett whiffs on Harbaugh.

Obviously we'd like a candidate with a track record of success but who is that?  You have to include age with that which disqualifies Miles for me...maybe not for you I guess.  I'm assuming Mullen doesn't come north.

Why is nobody talking about Mack Brown, who boasts a .778 win% from his time at Texas and has engineered not one but TWO successful major turnarounds at UNC and UofT. He's also 6 or 7 years younger than Steve Spurrier, and he'd be walking into an excellent situation at Michigan in 2015; the roster will be good everywhere except at QB and WR [and we really should be more appreciative of coach Hoke for this, given what he walked into] and the schedule will be very favorable. He is ethically respectable and has a record as a very good albeit not truly elite head coach. He seems to me to be the perfect candidate to hold down Fort Schembechler until an attractive younger candidate is ready to take over.

For what it's worth, he has said [as of October] that he will make a decision about whether he wants to return to coaching in December.

Someone from this camp is going to have to explain why they believe it is acceptable that, if we fail to land a Harbaugh, that we would naturally be forced to live with Brady Hoke for 2015 because I don't understand why anyone would believe that necessarily. That is, unless some people have hyped up the possibility of Jim or John so much that anything else to them would be confirmation from the university that this level of on-field performance was OK, which is something I personally don't see.

I guess I've been just trying to figure out what UM's realistic options are...and they don't seem numerous.  Aside from Mullen who is even a possibility?  I don't see Mullen leaving the SEC so who?  The OSU OC would be great but our fan base would have to be patient, which we haven't been recently.

Well I guess its your right and luxury to say how you 'dont' want Miles... but know, that he is very worthy of being the Michigan coach...   he has the personality to deal with the big seat here, and is a great coach....    the spotlight is so bright here, that one needs to be what many would consider 'a prick' to be coach.. Bo was.... Jim is... so is Les.  I'd be ecstatic if we got Miles... but I would be concerned about WalMart nation trying to burn it down with nonsense.

EVERY FOOTBALL COACH IN AMERICA EMPLOYED.

AP: In the lastest news in college football, it sems every single football coach in the entire country is employed, and there is nobody, with the inexplicatble exception of Brady Hoke, that is availale to take the open Michigan job.Sourses within the AD confirm that AD Hackett is trying to contact teams in Canada, and Karjakistan to see if they can find a new coach for 2015, but at this time, there seems to be a genuine shortage in the industry. /s

First off, Hoke has made over 12 million in his time here. After taxes and agents, he made $6 million in 4 years. Let's say he lives fairly large, but not excessive, by suburban michigan standards - at most he spent $1 million. Guy has $3 million banked, and that's assuming that he didn't save a penny before this job. He is fine.

Oh, and Hoke will be HC of a D1 school within 2 years - I could see him doing really well at another Mac school. Remember how many people said that RichRod was done? He is doing fine these days.

That the performance tonight "wasn't acceptable".

Michigan loses by 20 Saturday. Hoke is fired Monday morning. Shortly later that same day Harbaugh is fired by 49ers because the owner wants him out. Harbaugh announced as Coach Tuesday.

Five days I know.

Les Miles is done for the year except for an insignificant bowl. Hoke will be fired, we will reach out to Harbaugh. We will either wait for him if he tells us he is interested or we will hire Miles over the next couple of weeks.

IMO there is only one logical reason Hoke has not been let go yet. The decision has not yet been made.
I truly believe if we win Saturday Hoke will be retained at least until the bowl game. And if he wins that he'll be brought back next year.
There is no other reason to delay the announcement that makes any sense to me.
