Predict the Power Five

Submitted by DrMantisToboggan on August 17th, 2019 at 11:18 AM

It's just 14 days now, boys and girls. Help me kill the last Saturday without college football by predicting every Power 5 division and conference winner. If something like this has been done recently, oh well, it's content bitches.

ACC Atlantic: Clemson

ACC Coastal: Miami

ACC: Clemson

Big Ten East: Michigan

Big Ten West: Nebraska (I don't like that I'm buying Nebraska in year 2...maybe Minnesota)

Big Ten: Michigan

Big Twelve: Oklahoma over West Virginia (WV and Texas both 8-4, Texas loses in Morgantown and thus loses the tiebreaker LMAO)

PAC-12 North: Washington (Gets Utah and Oregon in Washington, Pac-12 sucks, could go 13-0)

PAC-12 South: Utah

PAC-12: Washington

SEC East: Georgia (Put UGA X on suicide watch)

SEC West: Alabama

SEC: Alabama (RIP UGA X)

Bonus:

  • Playoff is Clemson, Alabama, Michigan, Washington
    • Georgia is 12-1 and better than 12-1 Washington, but Washington won their conference. The state of Georgia reaches levels of BPONE unbeknownst to Michigan fans.
  • Ohio State and Notre Dame both go 10-2
  • Missouri is the most underrated team right now - I think they win 9 or 10 games
  • Texas and Georgia both fail to break through
    • Richt comparisons (stupidly) increase in frequency at UGA
    • Some Texas boosters actually start looking at who's next
  • Shea sets the Michigan single season passing record and is invited to the Heisman ceremony
    • Trevor Lawrence is your Heisman winner

Let me hear your predictions and how stupid mine are. Roast me! Should this have been a diary? No, find something better to do with your time than be the board police. Will I tell others who make long board posts that theirs should have been a diary? Yes, absolutely.

I don’t get all the Nebraska hype. Wisconsin, Iowa and Northwestern are all better than Nebraska. Northwestern vs Michigan in the Big 10 championship because Iowa and Wisconsin will have an extra loss by virtue of losing to Michigan.

Everyone is just so hyped about Scott Frost year 2 + Adrian Martinez. Wasn't Nebraska's defense rough last year though? A whole bunch of teams hung 40+ on them. I'm not sure all of their other issues get fixed

I'm betting they'll be like some Richrod teams. Start hot with a QB they rely on WAY too much. They'll blast South Alabama, Northern Illinois, and Illinois like 42-21ish each and maybe beat Colorado and they'll be a top 15-20 team...and then OSU is going to bring them back to earth with a whoopin in Columbus. They finish 7-5

I also agree that Nebraska may be getting a little bit overrated this year, but they will be much better than they were last year.

You mentioned their defense, but in the second half of the season they weren't playing too bad. I think their biggest issue last year was trying to get players to buy in to a new system. They seemed to lack a ton of effort in the first 6 games that they were playing with in their last 6. And Martinez is really good when healthy.

Everyone has been drooling over Frost because of the second half of last season.  But look at the competition they played; Minnesota, Bethune-Cookman, Illinois, MSU.  The Sparty game in particular was M00N like...in that both sides were so awful, one of them HAD to win.

They did play OSU tough in Columbus, which I still have trouble contemplating, as much as I was rooting for them.  I'm thinking maybe if they had gotten blown out like they usually do, maybe some folks wouldn't be so quick to call the second half of that season such a success and hype for 2019.

Northwestern isn't going to be great this year...it's NEXT year that they're going to battle to get back to Indy.

Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska are all potential leaders in the west.

People keep talking Nebraska and the naysayers bring up the Martinez hype but they don't see that Nebraska gets the cake walk schedule this year.

The B1G West is actually going to be fun to watch because it's extremely balanced this year. Northwestern will get a few games, Minnesota and Purdue will also be solid.

Anyway... I'll say:

ACC Atlantic: Clemson

ACC Coastal: Miami (FL)

ACC CHAMPION: CLEMSON

-----

B1G East: Michigan

B1G West: Wisconsin

B1G CHAMPION: MICHIGAN

-----

Big 12 #1: Oklahoma

Big 12 #2: Texas

BIG 12 CHAMPION: OKLAHOMA

-----

Pac-12 North: Washington

Pac-12 South: Utah

PAC-12 CHAMPION: UTAH

-----

SEC East: Georgia

SEC West: Alabama

SEC CHAMPION: ALABAMA

---

Playoff #1: Clemson

Playoff #4: Georgia

PEACH BOWL WINNER: CLEMSON

-----

Playoff #2: Alabama

Playoff #3: Michigan

FIESTA BOWL WINNER: ALABAMA

-----

Playoff #1: Clemson

Playoff #2: Alabama

NATIONAL CHAMPION: ALABAMA

-----

Georgia and Michigan will both have two GREAT teams who lose close games. Would Clemson consider the Fiesta to get the game out of Atlanta if it was playing UGA?

SUGAR BOWL: Oklahoma vs. Florida (Oklahoma wins)

ROSE BOWL: Utah vs. Ohio St. (Utah wins)

ORANGE BOWL: Notre Dame vs. UCF (Notre Dame wins)

COTTON BOWL: Texas vs. Oregon (Texas wins)

...the debate begins, would you rather lose to Bama in this situation or WIN the Rose Bowl vs. Utah?!!!! (While Oklahoma lost to Bama)

...the debate begins, would you rather lose to Bama in this situation or WIN the Rose Bowl vs. Washington?!!!!

This is never even a question for me: Win the Rose bowl over losing in the CFP. I would always rather end the season with a win than a loss. Going to the CFP really doesn't do anything for me unless UM wins it all.

For me it depends on what happens during the regular season. I'll take a playoff loss if we're undefeated and beat ND, MSU and OSU over losing to ND and OSU and a Rose Bowl win.

Obviously it would vary year to to year. But right now, beating OSU and winning the B1G are paramount.

ACC: Clemson over Pitt. The ACC coastal is a mess of 4-4/5-3 teams again

Big 12: OU over Texas

Big Ten: Ohio State :( over Wisconsin. Wisconsin and MSU get back to their 9-10 wins ways. Penn State is still sorta ok but finishes 4th in the east

Pac 12: Washington over USC

SEC: UGA over Auburn. People debate again whether a 11-1 Bama that didn't make their conference title game should get into the playoff anyway but Big 12 champ OU at 11-2 gets in ahead of them

Clemson beats OU. UGA beats Ohio State. Clemson repeats with a win over Georgia.

mgoblue98

August 17th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^

Your predictions are pretty reasonable.  I would put OU in the playoff over Washington.

Edit

Michigan over Northwestern

OU over Texas

Clemson over Virginia

Washington over ASU

Alabama over Georgia

+1 for "wash, rinse, repeat."

In each of the last 4 years, 3 of the 4-some of OSU, Alabama, Clemson & Oklahoma has made the playoff.

Whichever one didn't was never ranked lower than #7 in the last CFP poll.

I just want to see a little bit of change.  I doubt it happens though.

ACC: Clemson Talent difference is too wide to predict anything else.

B10: Michigan I'm drinking the kool-aid Shea for Heisman.

B12: Oklahoma Jalen hurts will destroy that conf.

Pac12- Always asleep when they play so idk.

Sec- Alabama $$$$$ *****

Playoffs Alabama,Clemson,Michigan,Notre Dame.

Edit: Predicting Notre Dame at 11-1 with a road loss to undefeated Michigan in the middle of the season goes in unless B12/P12 champ goes undefeated.

If Shea is at the Heisman presentation ,that will bode well for Michigan football's future because he isn't our most talented QB on this year's roster.

B1G: Michigan. MSU finish second with two losses in East to M and PSU. OSU finish 4th in B1G East with losses to M, MSU and Indiana. PSU loses 3 games with losses to M, MSU and Indiana. Indiana is the surprise team of B1G and I really like their QB. Minnesota win B1G West and loses in the championship. Edit: OSU loses a crossover game.

SEC: Georgia.

ACC: Clemson

B12: Texas. I am buying whatever they are selling.

PAC12: Washington.

Michigan loses in the seminal to Georgia in the semifinal by a slim margin. Georgia wins the championship over Clemson.

It’s hard for me to see anything other than Clemson and Alabama again. I think Oklahoma could upset Clemson in the 1/4 matchup, depending on how Hurts played, but I wouldn’t bet on it. That’s probably a 52-35 Clemson win. I wouldn’t take our secondary against Tua and his WRs, so I would say we would lose like 38-21. I think I would take Clemson over Bama again without seeing them play.

"Some Texas boosters are looking at who's next" uh, no! Way off base here. If Herman goes10-2 this year fans in Austin will be giddy. Hwrman isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

Clemson over Miami

Georgia over Alabama

Michigan over Wisconsin

Oregon over Utah

Oklahoma over Texas

CFP semis:

Clemson over Oklahoma

Michigan over Georgia

CFP Champion: MEEECHIGAN!

Shea loses the Heisman to Mr. Lawrence, but takes home the hardware that matters the most.

Big Ten: OSU over Wisconsin. Sorry, Michigan has to prove it can beat OSU before I can justify putting them in this game.

ACC: Clemson over Miami. The entire regular season is a frickin warmup for Clemson before they get to the playoffs.

Big XII: Oklahoma over Texas. Both teams have a great offense, but I have to question Texas’ capabilities on defense. I do think Oklahoma’s defense will be improved. Not dominant, maybe not even good, but improved.

Pac-12: Washington over Utah. Don’t have much to go by here, but I do think Washington is the best team in the conference.

SEC: Alabama over Georgia. Until someone in that conference can prove otherwise, it’s Saban’s world. You’re just lucky enough that he allows you to live there.

Playoff Semifinals:

(1) Clemson vs. (4) OSU - Lawrence blows the doors off of OSU and wins by at least 2-3 TDs

(2) Alabama vs. (3) Oklahoma - Alabama makes quick work of Oklahoma and sets up Clemson-Bama V

Clemson wins it all again. Lawrence is a generational talent.

ACC Atlantic: Clemson- by a million

ACC Coastal: Virginia- love Bryce Perkins game.

ACC: Clemson by a million. Lawrence, Etienne, and Ross are going to dominate this conference.

Big Ten East: Michigan. Its time we finally kick that door down!

Big Ten West:  Iowa- but what a crapshoot here (Purdue, NW, Wiscy, Iowa).  I think Nebraska is still a year away only because of their defense though. If Wiscy can find a QB that is even half decent they should take it, big if though.

Big Ten: Michigan

Big Twelve: Texas – Ellinger can ball.  As Much as I love Jalen Hurts im not sold hes accurate enough to outscore all of Oklahoma’s opponents like Baker and Kyler did.  Dark horse picks are Okie State (cuz the mullet) and Iowa State- Brock Purdy is so fun to watch.

PAC-12 North: Washington- Washington has a favorable home schedule (Oregon, Wazzou and USC at home) and I think Eason is going to step in Nicely.  I hemmed in hawed about this because I do like Oregon. I think Herbert is going to be even better this year and has better talent around him, but the ducks play too many big games away from Autzen (Stanford, Washington, USC Away)

**Also I know USC could be complete garbage this year, but they still have a ton of talent.

PAC-12 South: Utah

PAC-12: Washington

SEC East: Georgia- Only real worrisome spot is the WR core which is going to be completely brand new.

SEC West: Alabama. Same old same old.  Although Gus Malzahn is on the hot seat again and he seems to always have Auburn put on a good season when the pressure is on.

SEC: Alabama.  I don’t see any reason to bet against them and this point.

I will just give my division winners

pac 12 washington

 big 12 Oklahoma

sec Georgia

acc Clemson

big 10 Ohio state

final 4 Georgia vs Ohio st

clemson vs Alabama

final Clemson vs Georgia

champion Georgia

i really want to pick Michigan I know this is the trendy thing to do around here but I think the defense takes a step back, I think just switching to this offense is not going to be as easy as we think year 1, Gattis is a first time play caller, and that schedule is brutal

butuka21

August 17th, 2019 at 6:16 PM ^

Michigan is not just the trendy pick around here it is nationally.  I’m not sure why yet?  I hope they are right, and maybe I’m just protecting myself from another meltdown and I don’t know that Day is a superstar time will tell same with Gattis, but I do know that recent history tells me to not buy into the hype, expect the worst hope for the best or it usually ends up with a few broken remotes in my household.  I really have to see them beat Ohio to believe it now.  I’m concerned we still do not have the guys to cover what they are going to throw at us especially if don brown is not willing to change or prepare for it then I see the same results occurring
