Possible College Game Day - UM/PSU

Submitted by Ajcoss on October 10th, 2019 at 11:01 PM

Just looked at the schedule for next week, pretty weak. Only other ranked vs. ranked game is Arizona St/Utah. Maybe Oregon/Washington just on the outside looking in. I think if both teams win this weekend it’s almost a no doubter they are in Happy Valley next weekend. One loses, well who knows. Game Day, White Out on the road, ABC Night Game. Boy oh boy how big next weekend could be for the Harbaugh era and this program. Doesn’t get much bigger.

Oh any update on McCafftey? Lol, I know if anyone had an update they would share. Just surprised we haven’t heard more about it this week though. I don’t trust Shea at all to get it done. Hope I am wrong.

GameDay isn't so much into playing vulture in a perceived hot-seat situation, but it seems strongly possible given the other factors. Are there any super-undercard games in weird places they might favor?

I'm already emotionally detached from the expected white-out pummeling. Could be a totally unexpected win, but a loss isn't going to change the trajectory of the season.

Sorry/not sorry to threadjack, but should I see Joker or not? Reviews are all over the map from "this is worse than Ishtar" to "this is art." I mean, if it's two hours of interesting, dark cinematic entertainment worthy of a medium bag of popcorn and possibly some Junior Mints, that's all I need. I love the trailers FWIW.

Saw it last Friday. Definitely worth seeing, and Phoenix puts on a great performance. Better than Ledger or Nicholson? Debatable, but they all play different versions of the character so it’s really apples to oranges.

It really is dark, though. Gritty and dirty, too. Like seeing NYC in the 70s to early 80s. And Batman ain’t walking through that door in this movie. No one’s coming to save the day. It really is a journey of a man’s descent into insanity. Not a comic book movie. Just a dark movie that happens to be based on a comic book character.

I'm kind of with you there.

I'm going to do my best to watch the games like it was 1993 and pretend social media isn't there. On top of that, this team kind of is what it is. I'll hope for the best. I'll hope for that PSU like turnaround. But I'm not counting on it and we'll finish where we finish.

For me, if we get toasted by PSU and ND but can squeak a win out vs. MSU I'll call it good. I hold no hope for OSU.

I just don't think Gattis has it; something big is missing in this offense.

It's like last year we had an offense that had some solid basics (running the ball, decent pass routes, the occasional running QB) with big negatives ( glacial tempo; not enough good passing plays) and our new offense got rid of all the stuff we did well without really fixing the stuff we do poorly.

In the end, ironically, I think (in my uneducated opion. Caveat Emptor) that last years offense may have been the best one suited to Patterson for long term success for him. He was always branded as a spread guru but Brian says the Ole Miss offense was basically a HS offense that kind of worked; and this offense he isn't making the right reads. Last year he was in a more structured environment that suited his escapability and accuracy.

If you want to watch it because you love superhero/villain movies, maybe this isn't for you. If you're interested in seeing a movie that serves more like an engaging psychological study, you should totally see it.

Joaquin is amazing. He really makes you feel bad for Joker to the point where you almost feel sick to your stomach. It doesn't justify his actions (obviously), but you can see how an outcast like him can be pushed to that state of mind.

Highly recommended by me.

Please no.  No.  I do not want this.

Maybe, if Michigan wins, Gameday can come to Ann Arbor for the ND game.  Just not this one in Happy Valley, please.  Just say no.

On MGOBLUE.COM they have the ND listed as being on one of the Disney Channels (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2).  Looking at the games that day I am guessing Fox gets the next pick so they will probably end up taking Wisconsin @ OSU which will be the Noon game of the week.  So that leaves Disney to put Michigan vs ND at 3:30p or 7:30p kickoff.  There is also the Penn State vs MSU game.

I would think it would be OSU/Wisconsin Noon on Fox, Penn State vs. MSU 3:30p and then Michigan/ND night game on ABC.  But this is just a guess.

in my 56 years on earth, 38 as an adult i could never fathom the reason that a man would go to a baby shower. What do they do there? not judging just trying to understand the male personage at a baby shower. I have never been asked by the other half to attend one nor would I. She just knows i wouldnt ever entertain the thought.

That’ll be fun! Hours upon hours of game day talking about the problems the program has winning a big game and after that we can watch the team have problems trying to win a big game,

I mean Iowa was a big game.

We can’t score points. Defense can’t hold all year and in every game

The offense just just looks like an abortion with no end in sight. Not looking forward to not scoring.

EDIT: the fan base does like to move the goalposts and rightfully so. The goal of the season, in year 5, was to win the big 10 championship. They already had their mulligan at Wisconsin so Iowa became a huge game. They won that and now it’s PSU. Unless I misunderstood Harbaugh at Big 10 media day where he said he’d place us as first in the BIG 10. Maybe he meant first in the BIG 10 to get a pinstripe bowl invite.

Most fanbases do that, not just Michigan's, it's kind of the nature of fandom.  Most if not all UM fans going into the season had the OSU, MSU and PSU as the three biggest games, in that order.  I had Wisconsin 4th because of it being on the road and then Iowa and ND.  The other games I just thought UM would win and probably easily.

There has been a lot of talk about the PSU game on this board this week. But I'm sure the Illinois fans understand.

I don't think that will be GameDay.

If I had to guess - I think GameDay chooses October 19 as a day to go "a bit off the radar" (they invariably go "off the radar" once or twice a year) and visits either Memphis or SMU.

Both American Conference teams are (1) undefeated, (2) playing fairly legit opponents, (3) are legitimate threats to go to a NYD6 Bowl Game, (4) playing games on an ESPN network, and (5) venues that GameDay has never gone to before.

SMU also has the "storyline edge" of being ranked for the 1st time ever since their pre-Death Penalty days.

Trying to predict the rest of the season (list of possibilities, with my guess bolded):

October 19: U-M at PSU, or Temple at SMU, or Tulane at Memphis.

October 26: Wisconsin at OSU, or Notre Dame at Michigan.

November 2: Florida vs Georgia.

November 9: LSU at Alabama.

November 16: Wake Forest at Clemson, or Oklahoma at Baylor, or Georgia at Auburn.

November 23: Penn State at Ohio State, or Oregon at Arizona State, or ??? (kind of a weak schedule).

November 30: Iron Bowl, plus all the other season-ending rivalry games.

I always appreciate reading your insights on things here.  You offer way more than most, myself included.  Why do you think Gameday would pass up Wisconsin at OSU to come to Ann Arbor?  I'd think they would be all over 3 vs 8 game.  I guess the argument could be made to avoid going to Columbus twice in one season?

NittanyFan

It was mainly the "not go to Columbus twice in a season" factor.  November 23 is kind of a weak schedule, but I admittedly didn't look hard enough for "off the radar" options.

Appalachian State, for instance, is at home on November 23 and if they stay unbeaten (or even if they are 9-1) they would have earned a visit.  Would be the 1st ever GameDay visit to Boone.  1st ever trip to a Sun Belt school as well.

Actually, the more I think about it - Wisky/OSU on October 26 and then App State on November 23 is the better prediction.  I sort of think PSU has ~2 losses by the time of the OSU game anyway.

Thx for the compliment.  :-)
