Posey must sit 5 more games

October 7th, 2011 at 7:53 PM ^
Of course he will. But, the more games OSU loses, the better.
They might be playing for bowl eligibility against us.
October 7th, 2011 at 7:54 PM ^
I wonder if anyone has been suspended for the first 80+% of the season before?
October 7th, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
He got a year, though this might not be what you're asking.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:51 PM ^
You're right, but it's not what I was asking.
October 7th, 2011 at 9:07 PM ^
Lagarett Blount comes to mind
October 7th, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
Wasn't he suspended "indefinitely" and then was able to come back?
October 7th, 2011 at 9:53 PM ^
October 7th, 2011 at 7:58 PM ^
That they would even consider playing him in two measley games is despicable. If they are trying to avoid the "win at costs" tag, that's not the way to do it.
Fortunately this means very little as OSU has no quarterback to get him the ball downfield.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
...how the school reacts. I don't think OSU is in any position to be reacting to things like this with indignation... time to suck it up and sit him for the year. I hope the kid can make some academic progress and not throw a tantrum and leave.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:31 PM ^
At this point they could give him the Stonum treatment and let him redshirt, right? That would be a little slimy, but this is OSU. Not sure Posey would be down for it, but at this point his draft stock is dick anyway.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:36 PM ^
NCAA mandates serving their suspensions during non-redshirt seasons. Stonum was only suspended by UM so they had that option.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:40 PM ^
I didn't know that. Thanks for that. Very insightful.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
Well very good then.

...p-chem?
October 7th, 2011 at 7:58 PM ^
that he's sitting and good that he'll be back when he will, just in time for some additional punishment
October 7th, 2011 at 7:58 PM ^
"I am extremely disappointed with the NCAA's decision regarding DeVier Posey," Ohio State athletics director Gene Smith said. "This penalty is harsh considering the nature of the violation and the five-game suspension already served by this student-athlete."
Lol smith you suck at taking responsibility for your actions. I hope ncaa sticks it to you!
October 7th, 2011 at 8:06 PM ^
... the 5 games he served already is for a different violation. The additional 5 games is for a new infraction, which Gene Smith doesn't seem to understand. If anything it should be more severe given the repeat offender status.
These guys are absolute slimey shitheads.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:06 PM ^
Repeat offenders should get lighter punishments. What could be fairer than that?

What is the point of this? If you're going to suspend him that long, why not just make him ineligible all year?
October 7th, 2011 at 8:04 PM ^
At this point, OSU would be wise to send the team (and the NCAA, more importantly) a message and dismiss Posey. There's simply no excuse for knowingly taking money after already being suspended for it once. Not to mention that one other time was during one of the most highly publicized black eyes in program history. I'm not saying Fickell or Smith will actually follow through with it, but he's let his team down and the program needs to hold him accountable and set an example.
October 8th, 2011 at 4:11 PM ^
So right. It's an embarassment that the NCAA has to keep stepping in to apply the appropriate penalty for all OSU's wrongdoings. Any other school in OSU's position would have the maturity level to preemptively self-impose punishments in excess of what the NCAA would impose anyway. It's makes OSU look incredibly guilty and irresponsible that they keep doing the absolute minimum possible and only then when the NCAA mandates it. Any serious school would have kicked Posey off the team by now, or at least suspended him for the season. What a joke.

Current #1:
$&&? this &@!? this season and $@@! the NCAA...can it just be tomorrow and can we not have an incompetent piece of shit running our offense?...we are still the Buckeyes for christs sake

To the effect of, "good thing he is coming back for the michigan game for the opportunity (the increasingly hypothetical opportunity) to win a pair of gold pants he can put right back on the market,"

most of their fans have turned on Posey it seems. AND recognized we are going to kill them. Jersey sales are imminent.
October 8th, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^
I have also caught wind of this jersey selling thing.
October 8th, 2011 at 1:13 PM ^
I know it's just an ad space that the company changes based on Web History, but when I clicked on that article there's a Giant Banner Ad for "Michigan Soccer Tickets" next to the Press Release. Hoke really have changed the Tide on the Rivalry

One of the angles that hasn't been talked about much is that this is the first official confirmation of the free trips to the country club, compliments of Dennis Talbot. If Pryor did, indeed, rat out Posey, he almost certainly ratted out Gibson, himself, and whoever else Tablot took care of.
October 8th, 2011 at 9:27 AM ^
What interests me is that the NCAA is aware of that material, obviously and that this additional violation by Posey is compounding (like everything else) in Columbus. Ohio fans don't realize it's just one little thing or one little thing but a rather, well...extremely high...volume of occurences. The Talbot business is going to come out over the next year which is awesome since it will just drag this out even longer and/or ultimately be the straw that led to the LOIC.
Currently George Dohrmann, who clearly knew aboutmuch of these shenanigans and it's evident now if you re-read his article is laughing to himself over brunch.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
They have to level Ohio with LOIC. Clarett, Smith, Tressel, TP, and friends. This is a clear pattern of boosters paying players. If I were Gee and Smith, I'd be building a bomb shelter under the Horseshoe and stocking it up. The NCAA and the ensuing mob will be after them.
Columbus Torch and Pitchfork open for business.
October 7th, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
is the last place I would place my bomb shelter when the NCAA drops the bomb on the 50 yard line at 11:50:50 AM sometime in the new year. I'd build out on the west side past the 270 outerbelt where I can hide and gather supplies, out there in the strip mall / urban sprawl / industrial / train yards zone.

October 7th, 2011 at 8:25 PM ^
I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

Dot THAT i, bitches.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
Does anyone who is more well-informed have an idea as to a timeline for the NCAA finally dropping whatever hammer/feather? The hearing for Tatgate stuff was August, but given the statement that the NCAA was "continuing its investigation" and given the relatively new stuff that's come to light, will that delay the verdict further? IIRC, the turnaround time for Michigan's practice hoo-ha was roughly August-to-late September/early October for comparison's sake.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:41 PM ^
didnt the NCAA take lime 4 years to issue LOI re Reggie Bosh and OJ Mayo. so sit tight.

but the longer ut goes the more they freak. this is good for us. popcorn?
October 7th, 2011 at 8:46 PM ^
Honestly, the longer it takes, the better. Because until it's over, OSU gets more and more speculation, bad press and recruit skepticism. Once it's over, even if the punishment is bad, they can work toward "rebuilding." They longer they're in purgatory, the better.
October 7th, 2011 at 11:11 PM ^
The Bosh-Lime case is still pending.
October 7th, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
The ESPN article says that Gene Smith expects them to be late this year (i.e. December).
As delusional as he is, I'd take that with a grain of salt.
October 7th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
I think Smith's used to getting good intel from his connections at the NCAA. And I think his reaction to this suspension is an indication that he's lost his access.
October 8th, 2011 at 9:30 AM ^
Based upon the investigator/Chizik interaction earlier this year thing are moving in a slightly different direction.
October 7th, 2011 at 8:39 PM ^
They should just put the kid out of his misery for this year. Just go full out Stonum and make it 12...
