If you stay in the draft, you can't come back to school. The NCAA has proposed a rule change that would allow players who went undrafted after participating in the NBA combine to return, but it's not in effect this year.

Sorry WD, that is not correct. The headline of that article is misleading. If you read the article carefully, you will see that the change is pending action by the NBA. That hasn't happened, so the new rule won't apply this year.

“This change is effective if/when the NBA and NBPA make an expected rule change, which would make undrafted student-athletes who return to college after the draft ineligible for the NBA until the end of the next college basketball season,” the NCAA wrote."

I think WD is right.

If he goes Undrafted, he can rejoin the NCAA. but I think the tricky part is if he starts making money (with cameos), will he still be eligible to return?

i hate Jim Delaney. No specific reason related to this. I just do.

That article is from the same time as the other one, back in August immediately after the NCAA announced their new rules. But the change is conditional upon the NBA and NBAPA changing their rules and that hasn't happened.

With the current NBA rules, players that have gone though the draft and weren't chosen can't go through it again. They're eligible to be signed as free agents at any time instead.

There's a lot of sloppy reporting out there. Just look at the article you linked vs the one WD linked. They're from the same day. One specifically mentioned the change was dependent on the NBA changing their own rules. The other didn't and made it sound like the new rule would go into effect immediately.  Here's a link to an article discussing what's in the memo the NCAA recently sent to coaches about how the new rules work. https://www.aseaofblue.com/2019/4/5/18296225/nba-draft-2019-rules-agent-deadline

No one has ever reported the NBA changed the relevant rule. One thing we can be sure about, the NCAA doesn't want to have players that can sign NBA contracts mid-season. The NBA doesn't like the idea of players going through multiple drafts. It gives players more leverage.

My guess is that it won't matter much anyhow. Few underclassmen go undrafted after getting combine invites. Players that withdraw from the draft often do so because they get second round grades. They'll still do that for the same reason.

The NCAA didn't do a great job with their press release. The whole HS students hiring agents rule change was confusing, clearly couldn't go into effect now and was based on not communicating with the other organizations involved. The other thing that confuses people is that one of the new rules did go into effect already, the part about college players signing agents.

Must return by May 29th if they are returning.

"Dozens of current NCAA players have entered the draft process, but they won't all be keeping their name in by the May 29 withdrawal deadline. Who has already said they're coming back to school? Who intends to stay in?

Don't forget, under new NCAA rules for 2019, players can now hire a certified agent, declare for the draft and still withdraw by the deadline (as long as the player ends the relationship with the agent after withdrawing)."

Good luck to him. He is a nice, fun-loving kid.  He has some growing up to do, but what sophomore in college doesn’t? I wish him great success at the next level; wherever that is.

Now let’s go get Franz...

True. He's allowed to do whatever he wants, and he is still only like 19 or 20 so of course he is going to be somewhat immature. But that's what made him so lovable - he was kind of a giant goofball.

I think some people feel like he has a great opportunity to play into the first round next season, and he very well could, but he wants to just be a pro basketball player right now - not necessarily NBA.

So good luck to Jordan, and we will keep cheering him on in his career.

That’s a good perspective and part of it.

We see so much upside with JP and the ability to play himself into the 1st round and a bigger contact.  Combine that with how much that type of season could elevate the team and fans are frustrated.

JP will make it if he works hard enough.  I think he is tired of the college game.

For what’s its worth I don’t think I would pay a smokin hot chick in a bikini for a shout-out let alone JP or any other athlete.

i don't think poole makes it in the NBA but of course i want him to prove me wrong.  if anything, iggy has a better chance but poole suffers from the same general issues:  poole is not exceptional at anything including shooting, slashing, rebounding, or play making and by NBA standards he's small.  in the NBA you have to be elite at one or more of these things.  i would guess he'll do fine in europe but not the NBA.
