[Pete Thamel] OSU's Kerry Coombs (CB/Asst. DC/STC) to join Tennessee Titans's coaching staff
Per Pete Thamel, Ohio State's Kerry Coombs who served as Urban Meyer's CB coach/Asst. Coordinator, Defense/Special Teams Coordinator will be leaving to join Mike Vrabel's staff on the Tennessee Titans. Coombs was arguably their best or 2nd best recruiter depending on where you rank WR coach Zach Smith.

Coombs was also responsible for coaching several 1st round talent at CB: Bradley Roby, Eli Apple, Gareon Conley, and Marshon Lattimore.

I wonder if they will now promote the Co-CB/Asst. DC/STC to Co-CB/Asst. DC/STC.

If I had to take an educated guess, the recently hired Co-DC Alex Grinch will take over Coombs' role.
Alex Grinch was a former All-American DB at Mount Union (D-III), and rose up the coaching ranks as a DB coach, and most recently served as Washington State's "DC/secondary coach."

I'm sure we'll get a report in the next 48 hours that Coombs has changed his mind and decided to stay with a promotion to Full-DC-Along-With-Schiano

Exactly what I was thinking.

Thinking the exact same thing. Very unUrban-like.

Combs was the Cincy connection. Not that OSU won't continue to pull top kids out of the Cincinnati area -- they will -- but Combs was one HELL of a recruiter. Just ask Sam Hubbard, future NFL first-rounder.

What made him a pain in the ass was not his connection to Cincy, but his work recruiting the state of Michigan.

That sucks that they lost their best recruiter.

Definitely a big loss. That's what happens when the team is successful, coaches are in high demand

A mutual friend told me a year ago Coombs was looking for the right opportunity to leave.
He's a good dude and I am glad he will go be a good dude elsewhere.

I knew him when I was growing up and he was coaching Colerain HS. He was/is a bit of a legend in Cincy HS football, and I like him a lot personally. Glad he's going elsewhere and hope he has lots of success.

Coombs was one of the guys on Meyer's staff who has been with him since day 1 at OSU. Nice to see some of their coaching continuity disrupted.

Urban better watch out before Vrabel clears out his entire coachng staff!

Without the early signing period this wouldn't have been announced until Feb 8th

Michigan recruiter - so this is helpful. The other stud recruiting coach is Larry Johnson.
