parkinggod highlights video thwarted by YouTube

Submitted by Chris of Dange… on November 25th, 2023 at 11:58 PM

I edited my normal utterly-one-sided highlight reel after The Game today and tried to upload it to YouTube, just like I do after every Michigan win.  What normally happens is that about half an hour after it uploads, the video's status changes to note that copyrighted content is present. What that has always meant in the past is that I can't monetize the video and the content owner gets to run their own ads over it.  Fine, no problem, I've never made a penny off the parkinggod videos and don't ever care to.

Tonight is different.  Every time I've tried to upload, I've gotten a pre-emptive copyright notice and the video status changes to 'Blocked in all regions.'  It complains about various sections in the video, but it only tells me about one at a time.  So I change or remove that clip and try again, only to have YT complain about a different clip.  Rinse and repeat; I gave up after about 10 tries.

Has Fox decided to go copyright-hardass just since last Saturday (when I was able to post the Maryland highlights without incident)?

I don't know if there's anything that can be done, but I'm pretty damn frustrated at not being able to give the parkinggod treatment to arguably Michigan's biggest win since the 1998 Rose Bowl.

First of all, Chris, thank you for all of these videos. They’re a wonderful boon to all Michigan fans.

Fox has been more aggressive than other channels (I live abroad and am often stuck with pirated youtube streams to watch live). Especially true for The Game.

I’m no expert, but I imagine this is the moment of greatest stringency from Fox. Perhaps in time you can get this one up there.

Hmmm, I noticed today the only highlight vids are from the networks.  They might be locking down.

Crap, always love to watch pg's vids after a win.

The FOX highlights just aren't the same - I love your videos and I was looking forward to watching this one (many times over). If you do find somewhere else to host your highlights, definitely let us know!

Thanks parkinggod! Me and my buddy always informally race to text one another “parkinggod is up”! Tonight we both wondered where the video was. Thank you for doing gods work. I only imagine OSU is fighting from allowing this content on the web

This would be a sad development. Watching parkinggod is a game night ritual in my household. I will never tire of watching PG’s highlights from last year’s osu game, where he spliced in Urban Meyer’s “They WILL stop the run” right before Edwards breaks off an 80-yarder.

I don't think it's just your channel. I haven't seen one highlight video from any of the usual suspects on youtube other than FOX sports own channel and BTN's channel.

Yep.. It appears FOX has been going Cobra Commander on the youtube highlight producers for the past couple of weeks. Sad times we are living in when you can't even give a company free exposure, and let them get paid for it also. Maybe Joel Klatt is just angry all of that traffic isn't being funneled towards his hot takes videos.

Yes, networks have been going hard after CFB media on YouTube. NFL stuff has been an almost insta-takedown for a while but streaming CFB games live wasn't that hard until about 3 weeks ago (Dofu users can attest to this). Entire CFB games would be streamed with no issue as long as it wasn't titled "X vs Z Game Stream".

Clips were mostly fine, too. Now a lot of highlight channels are getting massive notices and Copyright strikes and those game streams are being dumped almost as quickly as NFL games are.

Why? The usual answer. They want the ad revenue of you going to their Youtube channel or app to see the highlights.

agree here. not just highlights but also just any content analyzing the game to just say michigan played well. the vids seem to be "where will osu go?" wtf. the espn article on the victory still took jabs at whether um had the signs w ambiguous sentences.

im not being conspiratorial, but geesh, this seems petty.

I always watch your highlight vids so Thank You! That said, the greedy bastards probably realize that you and Wheels have provided proof of concept for the one-team highlight vids.

I thought the days of YouTube doing this were long over.  This issue arose with me circa-2013, in regard to my ABC Sports and ESPN content.  They blocked over 200 of my videos as a result.  Every step I took in order to get this issue resolved went nowhere.  Then a month passed, and all my content was back with no explanation.  Hard to believe that was ten years ago.

Fox Sports can go f*ck themselves.  It isn't bad enough they make us sit through their ten billion commercial breaks.  Now this?  Not cool.

Because I cut the Cable awhile back, I look for live streams of the game on YT, and can find several that are up for awhile (5-10 min) before they are taken down- then you just look for another one. This time around, streams were being taken down in literally seconds. Fortunately I was able to get to a Sports Book and watch there without missing much.

Wonder if the block is by content title ,description,  or stills within the video?

Is it hard to flip the field in reverse like all the stupid add videos on Facebook do?

I rely on yours and mattlovesball videos. I ignore The Game every year and find inner peace. So far that's a 3/3 Michigan favor (only began doing this in 2021). But now I woke up to be unable to watch the game. I watched the branded video but it went so fast that I lost the enjoyment of watching the game this year.

Once a full version is up online, all will be forgiven. Is it time to find a new channel, maybe an Mgoblog only video service?

Thanks for the highlights Chris, watching your videos after a victory is like a Sunday morning tradition for me. It sucks Fox is being so aggressive about this.

yeah, Matthew Loves Ball made a post to his Community tab last weekend that he got a Copyright Strike from Fox Sports and would no longer be posting any games broadcast on Fox Sports, FS1, or FS2. Really, really sucks, especially for those of us who couldn’t fully watch the game in real time. Maybe WD will get his highlights up, but I doubt it.

PSC Highlights said the same thing about a week ago about Fox. Absolute garbage from them. First, we have to put up with Urban Weiner on our TV's, then we have to put up with MULTIPLE commercial-kickoff-commercial shenanigans, and now they're taking down YT highlights. Absolute garbage and they're the ones that should be sent to Bolivia.

Absolutely love you parkinggod, sorry this is happening. I just hope you know how much you are appreciated. I lived abroad for years and your highlights are what kept me connected to Michigan football.

Is there anyway you could upload to Vimeo or google drive/dropbox and give us a link?

if all else fails post it to p*12n h_|3 . I think Fox is less diligent on that platform.
