Outback Bowl Open Thread
....a few hours ago that this one would go to overtime, I may have said, "shut up".
I stand corrected.
Not another SEC win. This makes the B1G look so bad.
The media will give the SEC a BJ no matter their game outcomes because of the NCG.
I mean if there was one thing you didn't want to do, it was turn the ball over.
Wow. Like clock work
Anyone else wish someone was taping Valenti watching this?
I may hate Sparty....but they make games interesting.
Coupons ftw! Muahahaa
Damn, the deep man was open too from the replay
R u there? Sparty?
Yep, there u r. Good ol Sparty.
Same old Sparty!
Can someone explain this to me? You can do whatever you want after a TO in OT with no concequences? That seems ridiculous.
well if you go over the line you could get ejected I guess. That's really it
I feel an unsportsmanlike penalty coming...
Haha how many of us saw another Sparty NOOOO incident coming! Good ol" sparty
And maybe I just jinxed Cousins.
Dude, just toss one to the end zone. 43 yards is not a gimme.
WTF is Richt thinking?
Wow, this is no gimme
I'm calling a roughing the kicker penalty
B10's about to go 0-5 today. Yippee.
43 yard fg? This is no gimmee. To run backwards and kick on third down is absurd unless your kicker is an NFL star is inexplicable. And Walsh is not.
This is absurdly conservative.
I want Sparty to lose in this fashion so badly, but I cannot stand that playcalling from Richt.
Blair Walsh is 19/31 on the year. Richt is an idiot.
He's attempted 31 (!) field goals this season? That's nuts. That is some seriously conservative playcalling.
Richt is a moron.
This is what Georgia should have been doing on the last State drive. They should have been blitzing and zoning behind the blitz. They played prevent and forced the game to overtime.
Hats off to Sparty - they have done a lot with very little (save for their linebackers who are high star recruits). My hate for them declines when it is SEC vs Big Ten and I want the Big Ten to win.
More importantly I am really impressed by Narduzzi. All his Nard Dog and goon tactics aside, he coaches an extremely physical brand of defense.
Never saw that coming
Uga no is definitely a thing
They ran backwards and kicked on third down to set up a very long field goal with a mediocre kicker. That playcalling deserved a miss.
It cost them. 3 yard QB sneak loss cost them that FG that missed by a yard.
Richt, you deserve whatever you get for your crappy playcalling
Dammit Georgia! You suck!
Shitty frightened strategy by Richt. They totally deserved to miss that kick.
Mark Richt looks like a total moron. You lay down with the ball again with a chance to win it?
All sorts of fail
THAT was some asinine coaching!
Georgia returns the favor. This shall now be known as the DERP bowl.
How about going for a few yards there Coach Richt? Jesus.
Georgia just Sparty'd so hard.
I can see why many Georgia fans want this guy fired. What a bumbling idiot. Not only has your kicker misse 12 FGs this year, you also pretty much tell your offense you have no confidence in them to score. Great coaching.
Georgia playing not to lose. Didn't work out so well.
Ok I wrote that before I realized Richt was trying to go straight Zookian on all things. Wow just wow. Say whatever you want about Hoke - he woule never have done that shit....
Whomever said Sparty and Georgia were the same team was astoundingly accurate.
Holy balls, first it's "Sparty no!" now it's "Georgia no!" Who will end this?
Georgia just out-Sparty'd Sparty.
Can stand to see a dramatic Sparty win and see the annoying grin on Dantonio's face and see Kirky gut nuts, and see Farty fans go nuts. god I hate state. I hate freaking hate them so damn much
"Farty"? c'mon man.
Does Georgia want to win this game? Now I see why Richt is on the hot seat with his stupid ass kick 45 yard field goal with 63 percent kicker. Why not fake it and then kick it if you don't make a first down?
Agreed. Would have been epic for Sparty to lose on a fake FG.
Better yet, how about a play-action pass on one of the three previous plays?
If you don't trust your QB, why not just run the ball up the middle three times, gain 6-7 yards and kick a >40 yard field goal?
I mean, anything but what just happened was the right call.
EPIC GA FAIL!!!!
Lucky penalty for UGA, looked like the blitz was going to hit home
My only fear is that run-backwards-and-kick strategy overshaddows run-up-the-middle-take-a-knee strategy. Please don't forget that.
WTH is Georgia doing?
loves the kicker and assumes TD or guaranteed FG (even with hia miss).
Coming up for UGA.
Dude sacked up and put it through.
Georgia deserves to win this game now.
Now you make the damn FG
WTF you couldn't do that on the last kick
throw another pick
Knee was down. How is the receiver so wide open?
Is that really a question with the decisions Georgias coaching staff has made thus far?
Lol. My wife just called Cousins scrawny.
Surely MSU has one last Sparty NOOOOOO in them.
an SEC sweep so badly...
Nice stand by UGA.
Here it comes. Missed FG
Why throw the ball there? DERP
Looks like an evil corpse.
No shit huh
Block this kick, Miss this kick
WATCH THE FAKE
tough when you don't give your wide outs a chance to make a play
Watch the damn fake!!!!1
Gotta hand it to the UGA in overtime. Getting a turnover and then forcing a 4th down should be enough to win most of the time.
Both of these teams look like crap in OT. This is not good football.
absolutely no offense here in OT
Too easy of a kick for Conroy.
Ogletree said why u thow ball at my face!?
Georgia's D is going to have to win this game for them.
Should have been another pick there. Gruden, Cousins as an NFL QB is almost laughable.
then so is Cousins.
Fair enough, he'll make a nice backup somewhere.
With my luck the Browns take him.
So sick of this. Need a pick six to end it.
Dare I say this Georgia defense might hold up...
Can georgia handle the cold weather?
Come on Spartans!
have been playing for over 4 hours now....they have to whipped.
turned upfield and running before he had the ball
Lol, Martin w/ the TD drop.
Sparty NO drops the game away. And BTW the odds say its at least worth considering going for it though obviously won't
My oh my. Could this teams blow any more chances?
Lol...another penalty. This is getting ridiculous.
Yes it is
Wow, how can you do that? How can you not get the kick off in 3 OT?
You can see Dantonio getting nervous.
So, more and more OT!
I would love to see the most penalized teams in NCAA history. SParty has to be a top 10 all time.
Jesus, what are you trying to do Murray?
Shoulda been picked
Only out for a game or two. So Dantonio
I hate Tirico for saying "Sparty On!"
feel good for BIG not good for little brother
Good Georgia deserves that loss. Worst coaching performance I have ever seen.
If I was in charge at Georgia I would have drunkenly fired Mark Richt before the third OT.
Let's not allow "only out for a play or two" to go unnoticed. So Dantonio.
Reminds me way too much of another coach I know. That was pathetic.
Georgia blew it. I now understand why Richt was on the hotseat
Eh. They're good for another 12 years now.
Just went from Sparty no...to Sparty on
So many dumb decisions.
Nice win for Sparty and more importantly a win for the B1G ove the SSSSSEEEECCCCCC
What an embarrassing performance by the Georiga coaching staff. Just awful. What a joke.
Their staff makes Lloyd Carr look like a genius.
another Georgia derp
Great win for Sparty there. Too bad we'll show them up with a BCS win tomorrow...
beats the SEC again. Derp.
Despite the rivalry it's good to see a Big Ten win over a good team.
an epic game of who wants it less
This sums up that game perfectly.
Great win for the B1G, getting swept in the 1 o'clock SEC v. B1G slate would've hurt everyone going forward. Need Wisconsin to pull a big one here, and then Michigan twice more and the B1G will be back to proper form.
As the MSU coach, Dantonio is now 1-4 in bowl games and 6-12 against ranked teams. This year he was 3-2 against ranked teams (first time north of .500 for him).
Is that the first time three overtimes have been played without a TD in a college game?
Glad the B1G wins over SEC but pissed that MSU won. I would have liked that bowl winless streak to continue.
Of the rose bowl for that.
he's 11-0 at getting his players to commit felonies
claiming he should've been in Pasadena.
See you in October boys. After your shenanigans in this years game, you better be ready to live up to it every season from here forward.
It's not either/or. Spartan are celebrating their much deserved bowl win, thank you very much. Spartans also enjoy watching all the teeth gnashing of Wolvrerine posters who pretend they don't really care abouit MSU, but post more comments in this thread about the Outback Bowl than any other bowl thread today. Appears the shoe is on the other foot regarding the little brother complex.
1) MSU didn't give up - Georgia did. UGa played scared and handed MSU the game.
2) Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.
3) MSU has done a nice job of stepping up to fill the void created by Michigan's and OSU's respective implosions. Unfortunately for MSU, about 90% of the big plays that they made in that game were made by seniors or players not likely to return. It will be interesting to see what they do next year.
A White returns
All starting LBs return
Leveon Bell returns
Dan Conroy returns
Worthy prob going pro but not for certain.
You're team just won a rare post season game and yet you're here on MGoBlog?
10 pages of UM fans posting "Sparty No" and "This is over" in the first? 10 page thread about a rival's bowl game?
We are football fans and our bowl game is not until tomorrow. You'll notice that often times the BCS games are on after the typical, run-of-the-mill bowl games. Nice little win, though.
LOL. Enjoy your acc opponent. I will remember you when you kick off against Alabama in 2012.
I'm a college freshman and your program hasn't been nationally relevant in my lifetime.
Fun thread to read all the way through, lol.
normally id be happy that the B1G beat the sec, but seeing mark dantonio and kirk cousins happy makes me want to vomit.
- I want the Big 10 to win.
- Our rival is Ohio, not MSU. Would rather a MSU win than Ohio win.
- Too much focus on MSU here. When someone can say Michigan is their favorite team, and whoever is playing Sparty is their second favorite, well, that person is on the way to being Sparty.
- An MSU win looks better for Michigan. If the teams we lose to lose, it makes us look worse.
- I want the SEC to lose whenever possible.
- Did I say, I want the Big 10 to win?
Of course it chafes us that we played MSU so early in the season before we really hit our stride. Things might have been different if we had played MSU later, but that is how the schedule shook out (MSU with bye week before, Toussaint injured, Denard staph infection, etc.). MSU also narrowly beat OSU when OSU didn't have most of its offense suspended.
MSU has done a good job of capitalizing on the recent mediocrity in the B1G, but I don't know if it is sustainable for them.
As far as "Sparty No" goes, your QB threw a pick in OT. That is not exactly a clutch performance, and should have been the game right there. You guys were just lucky that UGA was even more dedicated to throwing away the game than MSU was.
Why are you here troll?
You just won your first bowl game in about a thousand years, why are you on a University of Michigan message board?
Actually, for a team that was implementing new schemes on both sides of the ball, there is a big difference between playing early and playing late. In Denard's first six games he had 3 multi-interception games. In his last six, he had none. Once Denard and the OC got on the same page, things improved dramatically on offense.
You act as if Michigan wasn't even close against MSU. The ill-fated 4th down play only happened because the previous play was spotted incorrectly. It should have been first down going in for the tying score. Late in the season Denard and Toussaint got healthy and things really clicked.
It is not just a coincidence that MSU has been playing well during a time when the dominant teams in the conference have been down (Michigan's rough transition during RR-era, MSU not playing OSU last year and playing a mostly suspended OSU team this year). As Michigan's roster and coaching are returning to form, things will return to the way they are supposed to be - MSU winning 2 or threes times against Michigan per decade. That begins next year.
Wow the trolls are out in full force too bad you couldn't do that in a BCS bowl. Congrats on your win over a middle of the pack SEC team a conference that Michigan owns.
Of course the difference is that the last four years are an anomaly that is unlikely to be repeated at any time in the near future. Coming off of MSU's best two years in decades, recruits still prefer Michigan, as do the bowls. When you guys are at your best, still nobody cares.
why do spartans come on a michigan site?
I need some upvotes the spartan trolls negged me.
The irony of an MSU fan calling a Michigan fan a jerk is priceless. Aren't you the guys who cheer injured Michigan players and had a player who punched one of ours. Yeah we're the classless ones.
Yeah, until then we have nothing - other than our upcoming BCS game. And our highly-ranked recruits. And the biggest stadium and the most fans. And the ability to sell out our stadium. And more wins than any other team - ever. And a coach that is likable as a person and not a hypocrite. And integrity. Did I miss anything?
What is wrong with wondering whether or not MSU can sustain its recent success over any length of time? All of recorded football history suggests otherwise. Hell, even when they won national championships waaaaaay back in the 1960's MSU couldn't even win all of their games. The fact that their recent resurgence coincides exactly with Michigan's brief stint with mediocrity suggests that this is an anomaly that will be rectified shortly.
