OT…UM Football Alumnus is Pizza World Champion…Really
Jeff Smokevich, a member of the NCAA Championship Team of 1997 from Birmingham, was awarded the Best American Pizza Maker in Italy last month. He owns Brown Dog Pizza in Telluride, Colorado and cooks the best ever pizza pies………the square Pizzas are similar to Buddy’s in Detroit, but much more creative with current recipes:

Jeff opened Blue Pan Pizza in Denver a couple of weeks ago:
He is a really good guy and will duscuss Michigan football anytime that you visit either of the restaurants.
I'm here for the Domino's jokes.
Most popular question asked on the Domino's phone app? "Hey Dom? Where the fuck is my pizza?"
I'm here for the Mike Gittleson Jokes
I quit quit going to the gym with Mike Gittleson because he always started shouting at me,
"Come on man, you've got to want it! Come on push. You can do it."
I hate being disturbed when I'm having a dump.
Don't mention pizza if you aren't going to bring samples to the site.
Thank you.
I thought this was going to be a competitive eating champion. Now I'm much more hungry and want to visit Telluride.
On a related note, anyone ever been to Tony's Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco? Going there for work next week and Tony is an 11 time winner. Wondering if it's worth the hype.
Yes, very good, definitely worth the visit, get the mussels there too. EDIT: delfina also a good option for pizza. Near Bi-Rite (ice cream) and not far from Flour + Water (good but busy dinner spot) and Tartine (not your traditional super sour sourdough, but many consider to be the best bread around)
Might have to check out delfina as well.
Dave Brandon is a world champion of bad pizza. Or something like that.
I'm getting myself a ticket for Denver and a rental car for Telluride....
Downvoted for referring to 'Za as Pizza.
You do know that's not a thing anymore, right?
will check it out it is 10 minutes from me.
If your last name is Smokevich you are destined to win all things cooking.
It also works well with Colorado's herbal economy.
One for creativity.......
I miss that and Detroit Egg rolls. I've been stationed in all four corners and cannot get a proper egg roll unless I'm in the Detroit. Pizza, I have been converted to the NY/Boston style but egg rolls.... oh I miss you bean sprout with the vinager sauce.
I live downriver and there are several places that carry the bean sprout egg rolls fortunately. In the city, Tai Hing at Holcomb and Jefferson does a nice one as well. One thing that is kind of interesting is that you don't have to get too far outside of Detroit before the switch to cabbage seems to happen. Kim's Gardens in Novi used to do the bean sprout ones, I believe, but the last time I was up that way, the menu had changed a bit.
Jeff Smokevich, a member of the NCAA Championship Team of 1997
There is no such thing as an NCAA Football Championship unless you're talking about Youngstown State from that year.
Jeff Smokevich was a member of the 1997 National Championship team. The NCAA has nothing to do with the FBS/1-A championship.
You did not need to say this. Why bother?
I'm just making a correction, like everyone else does when they see an error in the OP.
You are being pedantic, when everyone here, i'd guess including you, can derive the context of what he is saying.
and NO those AREN'T the size of my testicles.

You think OSU blogs are using pedantic?
I doubt they are even using protection. #zing
I actually disagree with your correction and think the OP was correct. Just because the NCAA doesn't actually award the championship, it doesn't mean they aren't champions of the NCAA. Even today with the playoff, the winner is the champion of NCAA FBS division.
When the media votes on the All Big Ten teams and Big Ten POY, are those guys not really All Big Ten because the honor isn't given out by the Big Ten?
Are those guys not really All Big Ten because the Big Ten really has.... Wait. How many teams are there now?
Pedants obviously have no place in the New Big Ten-or-More.
Man, get over it. It's not like he referred to HIPPA or something REALLY egregious.
C'MON WD
For not meeting your standard of excellence.
With such attention to detail, I was wondering about your history at the University of Michigan?
What does that have to do with anything? I don't go there and never will because I'm not worthy of going there.
I was just trying to help out. Sorry you're so sensitive.
Sorry you're so sensitive to his sensitivity!
Have to do it:
Just curious.
You did it to embarrass him. You already knew the answer and that he would be sensitive to such a question.
Where do you goto school? I thought that you were a frosh at Michigan.
The NCAA definitely has something to do with the FBS champiosnhip since the teams that play in it are part of NCAA. Take that you pedantic pedanticising pedantaloon!
I'll have to make my way to Telluride and Denver. If he receives a golden "Q" then people can celebrate.
SIgned,
Pizza Snob
Honestly add in Harbaugh and things dont get much better
Was just down in Telluride for Bluegrass festival and stopped in at The Brown Dog. Awesome Pizza and great Michigan atmosphere. Glad they are in Denver now right by my house.
