Nice story about his path to Wayne state.
Might be paywalled--I have a Times Digital Sub for the Crossword Puzzles,

And then I immediately ran across this less OT story.
Should Michigan football fans be nervous about high 2023 expectations? Wolverines mailbag
Yes, this was a good read

One of my all time favorite players.
Weird how his coaching career has kind of trended down. It could be the product of his choices? Mike Hart is on the cusp of taking over a major program (if not Michigan in a few years), while Wheatley can’t seem to find stability. I hope he finds it in D2.
Mike Hart is on the cusp of taking over a major program (if not Michigan in a few years) ...
I like Hart but I don't get this. He's currently the running game coordinator. His next logical jump would probably be offensive coordinator at a school with a lower profile. Then, if that goes well, maybe OC at a higher-profile school, followed by a head coaching job at (again) a lower-profile school. Then, maybe a place like Michigan. Of course he could possibly skip some steps. "Urbs" went straight from Notre Dame WR coach to the head job at Bowling Green.
There are only so many major programs. If I'm making bets on the whole pool of candidates in college football, I'd say Mike is barely on the map now.
Makes perfect sense. On the other hand, it took the fellow the evil tunnel is named after just five years to go from Westland John Glenn to Michigan. As I recall he left when he retired.

Carr came to Michigan in 1980 as a DB coach. He became DC in 1987, and HC in 1995 when Moeller was fired. So it was 15 years before he became the top guy at Michigan.
“Cusp” seems like a stretch. Would be pretty crazy for a major program to hire a position coach. Much more likely he lands somewhere like Western Michigan (where he interviewed this past spring) and has the ability to move up after a couple strong years there.
I like Hart. But many fans seem to have an overinflated opinion of him simply because he played here. Nowhere else do you see fans hyping up a running backs coach for major head coaching jobs.
I get that he's a good coach, and very popular around here. I also know that he was IU's assistant HC and has had a fairly high profile so far as RB coaches go. And yeah, his RB's have been better than Jay's group was. But this 'he might take over UM when Harbaugh is gone' is wishful thinking that we put on a lot of assistants that roll through here. Ty Wheatley himself got this treatment! So has Jaybaugh, and Partridge, and Moore, and others. It's what we do as fans around here!
So far his group has really been living on what Jay left him. Jay is the main reason Haskins, Corum, and Edwards are at Michigan and he got Charbonnet as well. Hart did great work getting Jordan Marshall, but that’s the first major recruiting win for Hart. I would argue his individual coaching hasn’t been that much different on field than Jay. His biggest accomplishments were probably with the Indiana RB room. I’m not complaining in any way about what Hart has done at Michigan, just saying it’s pretty tough to point to any area he really improved over Jay so far
It is impossible for Tyrone Wheatley to be off-topic, ish or oherwise.
Exactly. Probably my all-time favorite player at UM, and the way he took care of his siblings showed a character few possess. I wish him the best no matter where he is.
