OT: Xbox 360 Game Selection Help

Submitted by MMGoBlueATL on

Wondering if the MGoCommunitty can assist me with a "very important" decision:  which XBOX 360 game should I buy next?

FIFA 10 - will get discounted in August, since FIFA 11 is coming out in October.

FIFA 11 - anyone heard anything about this game?  FIFA 10 controls are much better than previous versions, so I'm guessing the changes/improvement in FIFA 11 are minimal?

NCAAF 11 - looks like an upgrade over previous years, but I'm a little concerned about the time "investment" needed to fully enjoy the game (i.e. I'm an old ass man and can't be sitting online scouting and configuring my dynasty)...

Thanks in advance for the sage and your the smart ass responses as well...

I'm loving Red Dead and just bought NCAA Football 2011.  While I don't know if I'm an old ass man (29), I have a full time job and have other interests so I don't have time to play at all during the day and only for an hour or so at night so I won't waste my time on average games.  Red Dead is superb and NCAA Football looks to be quite an improvement over last year.  You can't go wrong with either one.

FIFA 10 is pretty awesome, and this year's version, as you said...mnor changes.  Maybe some aesthetics and roster changes.

However, NCAAF is going to be a sweet game.  I'm in the same debate right now, though I'm working so much this summer (and the whole "I left my Xbox in AA"ordeal) that I'm just going to wait it out and get NCAAF.

If you have a bit of extra cash, get NCAAF and look for fifa '10 on ebay (half.com gets really good deals for old games!) and get it as well.

Bad Company 2.  The first game was the best video game I have ever played and this one is even better.  Its all about the multiplayer so you need xbox live.  I play one video game and it is this one.  I hooked my other two buddies and they also play no other games.  FPS, but with a point other than go kill everyone.

It's pretty sweet and IMO a great improvement. Just adding the read option makes Michigan more realistic. Also, it's very easy to download rosters and you can stay away from online matches if you want.

NCAA '11.  The demo just came out, so you should try it before you buy it.  My personal opinion is that it is by far the best version since going to the new generation of systems.

Other games that might be a good, cheap buy: Assassins Creed 1 and 2 or Fallout 3.  Those are pretty fun, engaging games.

After "The Horror," I spent the next 3 straight days playing the first Bioshock in an effort to palliate my discomfort/dissociate from the real world.  I also went through about 30 beers and 2 pints of cheap vodka, subsequent DTs and an eventual spirit walk.  I know that I would have ended up jumping off of my roof had it not been for Bioshock.

As far as the OP, I'm going to go with NCAA '11.  I am an old ass man as well, and can't put as much in to the game as I would like.  But I have always found it helps take the edge off of season anticipation.

Dead Rising 2.  The first one was the best zombie game I've ever played.  It allowed for all the dismemberment and disemboweling moves you could want, whether it be ripping out zombie intestines by hand or running them over and spitting them out with a lawn mower.  The game had a nice mix of action and humor.  Keep an eye out for the sequel.

I appreciate the wisdom.  I try to stick to sports games just because there is a definite amount of time that I know going into it I'll spend playing that night.  Red Dead looks great but looks like one of those game that it'll be 4am before I know it....

By the sounds of things, I think I'll pick up the NCAA in July and then wait until August to get the FIFA10 discounted.  Seems like NCAA is $60, regardless of website. Anyone know of a "hook up"?

I am going through and beating all the games I have for my NES one last time before I sell it. When I am done, I will be in the market for a new game as well. NCAA '11 is a must, and I haven't bought a FIFA since '08, but I have to admit I am leaning towards Red Dead. I have a wedding coming up so I don't have a ton of time between now and mid august. Decisions decisions....

Microsoft is banning people for life from Xbox Live for those doing illegal activities. Guess if you're cool with just playing the games on your own or with people there then you should be fine but Xbox Live offers so much, I don't think I'd risk it.

I really enjoyed Red Dead Redemption. The story is pretty long and entertaining and then all the side missions will keep you busy for a while. After playing the NCAA demo I'm very excited for that to come out.

NHL '10 is a great game to play and never seems to drop on the interest level. I don't know if this is an option for where you guys live but the blockbuster videos in NC have a package now for $20 a month you can rent as many games as you want. you can keep one for that month or switch out every 30 minutes if you wanted to.

as for NCAA/FIFA, i played FIFA for the first time a couple of night ago and it seemed ok but given the fact i don't care much for soccer, i don't see myself playing much, but it looks great and has great reviews. just going off of the NCAA demo, i feel like i'm going to be losing many hours of my life to this game and i'm ok with that. it looks great and the gameplay is really smooth.
