OT: Weekly Friday "What are you doing?" Posbang Thread

Its that time again . . . Time for the purculator!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UlhLd76IzQ

(Does anyone remember this song? Does it not remind you of that old Atari game called Qbert? Anyone with me? No?)

Anyway, time to find out what the MGoCommunity is up to today. Me, I've finally found a buyer for my used Accord and am closing the transaction this afternoon. Its a lot of work - notary, bill of sale, making sure funds are certified and good, etc. But I'm getting $2,000 more than the dealer offered me for trade-in so its worth it! Glad the whole process is finished though. Then its on to buying a new Pilot next week in time for the big annual family beach trip to Wild Dunes, South Carolina . . .

Other than selling/buying cars, I'll be here going through about 30 different loan documents and reporting up the chain about them. Ah, the joys of corporate America. Not to mention the fact that both of my bosses are out of their respective offices today so I get the great pleasure of being the only one servicing (no, not in the way that you think I mean) both the LA and Charlotte offices. That ought to be a rip-roaring great time! F--- me.

What are you all up to? Anything interesting? Did you just come for the posbang? If so, bend over!

P.S.  Posbanged myself and it felt ooooh so good.  Not too hard, not too soft.  Just what I needed.

The problem with PTE is if you go back and edit your post, the board loads it in the rich text plugin and destroys all your spacing and formatting you did in PTE.  I'd stick to PTE if the default action would be to load it in PTE on edit.

How I do it is:

  • Type my whatever/text.
  • Add a space
  • Go to PTE
  • Paste embed
  • Usually add a space and type a letter or something
  • Go back to RTE
  • the letter and space is just a guide where the next "line" should be (you don't need it, it just makes it easier to pick up where to start and add something
  • Finish post with all the spaces and such still in there from RTE.

I never post directly from PTE.  You can, but it's like posting on my tablet...like you said, screwy spacing. But you can switch to it then switch back, and not have it all be one line.

We've been shortstaffed this week due to vacations here in my little corner of the "being in charge" world, so today is more or less devoted to the community effort of cleaning up check logs, invoicing, the work management tools, and other administrative crap so that the people who return next week do not come back to disasters. It has actually inspired a couple meetings next week to reapportion responsibilities in light of staff turnover (incoming and outgoing, never mind getting people to do training), so yeah, someone tell me again that taking a management position was a good idea.

I've spent a few down moments getting some selected summary data from last week's dump of MGoPoints for the 300 top MGoBloggers by point total.

Based on gross totals per last week's data (this week's will not be collected until later in the afternoon):

Average = 5,379 points

Median = 3,440 points

Mode = 3,550 points

Standard Dev. = 5,500 points

Variance = 30,251,572

Now, productive stuff - between 6/8 and 6/15:

Points generated = 2,701

*109 users in this group contributed zero points

*53 users contributed 80% of the points in this group

Average contribution (non-zero totals): 14 points

Median = 4 points

Mode = 1 point

Standard Dev. = 29 points

Maximum = 214 points

Performance quartiles (points generated):

1st QUARTILE 214 to 13
2nd QUARTILE 12 to 4
3rd QUARTILE 3 to 2
4th QUARTILE 1 to 0

Top 10 MGoBloggers by points generated (reporting 6/8 to 6/15):

User Change
jamiemac 214
Brian 200
M-Wolverine 186
Ace 124
WolvinLA2 108
Magnus 80
Seth 76
JeepinBen 67
bacon1431 63
LSAClassOf2000 53

This includes diaries, front page articles, threads started, and of course, individual comments.

I'll do summaries each week in the open thread until I do the big report.

Just wondering, for your "points generated" section, are you going for activity or raw points? I only ask because I believe the majority of Brian, jamiemac and Ace's points come from front page posts being worth more than board or diary posts. Not that either is better or worse, just different measures.

For the time being, it is raw points. On a notepad on my desk at home, this is broken out further for the people who produce the majority of the front page and diary content actually. I don't have it with me or otherwise I would post a little about that as well.

You have no idea how many times, as a frontline supervisor, I have to find ways to say this very thing every day. People will walk into my office and the very first thing I am forced to say is, "Well, this is news to me..."

Hopefully you aren't the guy I spent an hour cursing out at DTE.  They installed a new "smart meter" without any warning and in the process I didn't have power.  So my wife comes home and finds its 95 inside the house and the dogs are down in the basement doing their best not to melt.

On the plus side they hooked me up with a bill credit for July to apologize, so the AC is getting set to 60 for the month.

The Smart Meter program just made its way into Washtenaw County (assuming that's where you are, of course), so while I am not the guy you talked to (the Advanced Metering Infrastructure project is run from downtown, and I am in Belleville), let me welcome you to the world where there are no estimated bills and your meter is read about once every 30 minutes. The upside of it is that we will no longer need to rely on calls to prioritize outages (we'll simply know how many by circuit in realtime) and we will be keeping track of voltage fluctuations to do reliability planning in realtime as well.

As for the meter changeout, it shouldn't have taken all that long unless there was some sort of issue in the meter enclosure itself or Field Service decide to test for every potential problem known to man. Typically, you'd be without power for, well, minutes on the outside. Even changing out entire overhead services (underground is a different monster as it requires digging), we can do it inside an hour with large industrial services (so about 15 minutes for a house). I'll talk to a friend down there to confirm the average outage time, if you're interested.
