OT: Vote Conor's for Fave Irish Pub in Michigan

Submitted by maiznblue on

Feel free to vote for your favorite pub, but here is my plug for Conor's...

I have no association with Conor's other than the fact it's a great place in Ann Arbor. Also, very authentic and not just a crappy bar that brands itself Irish. It was designed and BUILT in Ireland and imported. Plus, there's good food and good spirits.

Here's more about it: http://www.conoroneills.com/annarbor/about-conor-oneills-irish-pub/

Indy so I don't know anything about any other Irish bars in Michigan, but I love Conor's. My soon to be wife and I always make sure that we hit Conor's on every trip we take to Ann Arbor.

What makes a good Irish Pub anyway?  I would say live music is at the top of the list since all Irish Pubs have the same look and beers anyway.  I always thought Conor O'Neills was pretty boring compared to other pubs I've been to.

Irish music and bands, an attempt an authentic Irish fare, some decorations from the homeland (not just a shamrock painted on the window), and an owner who actually cherishes Irish heritage. That, in turn, brings in Irish folk who want to cling to their Irishness, so to speak. As I mentioned last week, there hasn't been anything like that since the Tip closed.

After last weeks thread, and the article on MLive, I had lunch at O'Hare's while in Bay City this week for business. What a joke. That's less of an Irish Pub than Bennigan's. Fergodsake, they didn't even have Guinness on tap. The barmaid had to run next door to a sister bar to pour a pint. So disappointing.

I really just appreciate that authenticity of the actual bar architecture at Conor's. It's not just a bar dressed up in Irish crap with an Irish sounding name. I was always impressed they built it in Ireland then imported the parts of the bar to Ann Arbor. I always feel a little transported when I step through the doors. And I guess it's more of a restaurant than a bar, but they have good food. Always been a fun place to watch the World Cup, too. Plus, it's pretty nice sitting outside Conor's on Main Street on a nice day to me.

I like Conor's and all, but I'd have to go with The Old Shillelagh in Detroit.

However, since Old Shillelagh is not on the list of choices, Conor's it is!
