OT: UM ranked #15 in the world
A new ranking, this time by Time University Rankings:
http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2010-2011/top-200.html
Always good pub, though some weird things in the list. UCLA way high (remember, this is world ranking), Penn way too low. I mean, 4 of the top 11 university's in the world are in Cali??? But whatever, good to see Michigan getting some good academic recognition.

Thanks for sharing. But another pointless poll that makes no sense. We all know UM is #1.

Haha, exactly, completely agree... especially when you consider overall experience.

It is a different ranking, this came out this morning. I ciould be mistaken, but the one that came out a few days ago was the QS ranking that had UK university's in the top 3 spots.

Tied for 15th with Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich? Hopefully they show up on the 2014 schedule - we will stomp the prancing pragmatists (I only assume that's their mascot).

I have a hard believing that UCLA, even with Neuheisel's recruiting accumen, is a top 15 prog...never mind, wrong rankings.

So are Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Dearborn students allowed to buy tickets to Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Zurich football games?

Cool, thanks, you are right. I just did not want to draw too much attention since there are so many rankings out there. Thanks though

Michigan - 15, Northwestern - 25, Illinois - 33, Wisconsin - 43, Minnesota - 52, Ohio State - 66, Purdue - 106, Penn State - 109, Michigan State - 122, Iowa - 132, Indiana - 156
Six are ahead of Ivy Leaguer Dartmouth, and five are also ahead of Ivy Leaguer Brown. Michigan is ahead of 4 Ivy Leaguers.

They should've slapped another 6 on top of the OSU ranking.

ASU in front of BC? No Texas? That ranking is absurd.

That presumably explains in part why it suffers in the rankings; medical schools generate a lot of outside grant money and produce lots of publications.
You have to think about the criteria they use. It's not based on reputation, but on quantifiable metrics.

...my only quibbles are UCLA's excessive ranking, and I don't believe it can be argued that Cornell is so much better that they pip us for the #14 position.
