Apparently had a heart attack last night.

93 is a hell of a run

He definitely used all the runway. RIP Tommy

Well 2021 is off to a great start.

Today is just December 39, 2020
January 8th, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
I view today as January 2, 2021.
I TRULY believe that Wednesday March 312nd, 2020 was the absolute bottom.
Onward and upward.

These comments always puzzle me. It is sad that Lasorda died, but he made it to NINTY-THREE.
He had a hell of a run. He lived a very full life. I prefer to celebrate that, as opposed to being overly sad about something that we will all inevitably experience (death).

still waiting for that year when no one quasi-famous dies.
until then, worst year ever
January 8th, 2021 at 4:26 PM ^
Yeah, agree with the sentiment.
For instance, there are 74 (down from 75 with Lasorda's passing) still-living members of the baseball Hall of Fame. The death of each of them will eventually be a news item.

I always liked Tommy Lasorda, unfortunately, Fletch was not a big fan.
RIP Tommy - '88 was a fun ride

The sequence of that little fat guy jumping out of the dugout with his arms up always makes me smile.

Gets more spectacular every time you see it.

Thanks, Don
That was so much fun to watch.

Great moment in baseball history. Listening to it again with Vin and Joe makes it even better.

I still remember that night. I was partying on Eastern's campus. Ha!

This is epic! Love the fact he catches the mascot and gives him a beat down with it!
RIP Mr. Dodger

Also enjoy Tommy's (audio NSFW) response to Kurt Bevacqua calling him a "fat little Italian"

Condolences to his family, but a pretty good run.

Up there in a league with Sparky Anderson and Earl Weaver as classic old school managers.

I’ll always remember him as the Dugout Wizard on the old show “The Baseball Bunch” from the early eighties. RIP.

The guy was one of a kind. RIP Tom.

My father took us to Vero Beach every year from about '86-'91 for Spring Training. Lasorda could tell a story with the best of them. My sister still has a picture that was taken with us 3 kids and Tommy holding my twin sister in his arms. He was a treasure and I'm hoping that he and my father are having a good, old fashioned baseball chat today

Sorry to hear the news. My uncle used to brag that he and Lasorda vacationed next door to each other down in Florida and he and Tommy were old friends. At the 1986 All Star weekend in Houston I ran into Lasorda on an elevator and asked him about my uncle. "Never heard of him" was his response.

This should have happened during the season for the sendoff he deserved. RIP, Mr Dodger - you had a great run that made even non-Dodger fans root for the Dodgers...
January 8th, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
As a lifelong Dodger fan, you know the day will come, but it is still sad. Glad he got to see the boys finally get it done again before he passed, albeit in an asterisk year. RIP No. 2.

RIP Mr Lasorda
Fun fact - he was the catcher for my Grandpa during WW2 baseball games. Its amazing that some of these guys enlisted giving up some of their best years.

93, wow. Going to start drinking SlimFast

I went to the ‘04 Rose Bowl with a good buddy. We did it on the cheap- flew in New Year’s Eve, stayed the night in a relative’s apartment as she was away for the holidays. Partied at the bar bringing in the New Year in both Michigan (via phone) and California. Woke up in the morning and walked 5 miles to the Rose Bowl catching the parade along the way. Once we were at the stadium we were quite early so we crashed some tailgates. Low and behold at the back of one of the tents was none other than Tommy LaSorda, holding court and partaking of some brown pops. Took some pictures. Might be the highlight of the whole trip! RIP Tommy.

Basically begging the Dodgers to draft Mike Piazza ,was probably the best thing he did in baseball.

RIP, hope the "Big Dodger in the Sky" welcomes you with open arms.
After the World Series, was talking to a buddy about Snell being taken out when rolling. Said "how much fun would it be to listen to the response if some Vineyard Vine polo, khaki wearing front office analytics person came down to the dugout and told Tommy Lasorda to take him out?" You'd break the pitch counter on the F-bombs!

Aside from the Tigers, the Dodgers were my childhood team, and Lasorda was my manager. Great manager, great personality, always bleeding Dodger Blue! And, for the rest of my life, if I'm ever down and in need of a laugh, one of my go to videos will be Tommy Lasorda's rant against Kurt Bevacqua. It was classic - "he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a fucking boat". LOL
