Porcello looking better than usual tonight.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:27 PM ^
Porcello has induced a couple of huge double plays to get out of jams. Hopefully that luck (skill?) continues.
August 27th, 2011 at 12:44 AM ^
are not luck. Ground ball pitching is a skill. Ground ball pitchers also tend to increase their ground ball rates when in double play situations. You can call it skill.
August 27th, 2011 at 2:02 AM ^
Pitching a double play takes a lot of skill.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
3 to be exact. Of course you can't turn two if you don't put runners on base and Porcello is certainly putting them on base today.

I get a lot of pussies for a good WHIP!

rimshot!
August 26th, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
I see you Brandon
August 26th, 2011 at 9:52 PM ^
What does this mean?
I'm seeing it more and more frequently, and I'm confused as to its import.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:57 PM ^
You don't watch the games on Fox Sports Detroit. Often when a Tiger makes a tremendous play, Rod Allen (color commentator) will say "I see you _______".
Edit: Brandon Inge made a great diving stop and throw to first to rob a Twin of a hit, prompting Rod Allen to say, "I see you Brandon"
August 26th, 2011 at 10:02 PM ^
Oh.
Do you know why he would say this? I'm still confused as to its meaning.
Is it a new meme as well?
August 26th, 2011 at 10:11 PM ^
Rod has been saying it for a while now, so I don't think it's some sort of meme that he has adopted as his own. He is just a total goofball.
EDIT: For explanation, it is just Rod's way of acknowledging the great play that was made. As in, "I see what you just did, _____, and it was pretty f'in awesome. Nice job."
At least, this is what I suspect he means when he uses the phrase.
August 27th, 2011 at 1:43 PM ^
Fair enough - thanks for the explanation.
August 26th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
You would have to hear Rod say it in his on inimitable way to fully appreciate it, then it would be crystal clear. It's not what he says it the way that he says it.
August 26th, 2011 at 10:14 PM ^
Currently playing the Rod Allen drinking game. He's just the best worst announcer in sports.
"He is country strong!"
August 26th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
Never hate on Rod
August 26th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
Rod is too bad, I can think of plenty of worse announcers. Hawk Harrelson just to name one.
August 27th, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
"Best worst announcer in sports" is the title I would bestow upon Harrelson. If you go into it expecting utter buffoonery, he can be amusing.
My problem with Rod is that aside from the goofball moment here and there, he does try to present himself as a serious analyst, something that he is clearly not given the muzzle he gladly puts on himself when it comes to anything resembling criticism to the team.
I have seen Rod Allen in public hanging out with Tigers players a couple times. He is their buddy. When you watch the game, it's quite clear that his priority is to fluff his friends, even if this is at the expense of providing honest commentary to the viewers at home. To me, that's just unprofessional.
August 27th, 2011 at 12:42 PM ^
You bitch about them more than anyone. You seem to be a pretty miserable human being.
August 27th, 2011 at 2:30 PM ^
Rod and Mario are employed by the Tigers. They are not allowed to be overly critical of the team or its players on television. This is common knowledge.
August 27th, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
If an announcer has a website of fans of his team dedicated to his removal (complete with "Heave the Hawk" t-shirts!), he probably sucks. And my goodness does the Hawk ever suck.
August 27th, 2011 at 2:04 AM ^
Doesnt even need the name of the player in it. He often goes with the classic "I see you big fella"
August 26th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
Another phenomenal start by the new Javier Vazquez In Pinstripes:
5IP, 9H, 9ER, 2BB, 5K, 2HR, 118 pitches
August 26th, 2011 at 9:42 PM ^
he looks like a seagull
August 26th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
as i was typing that jackson makes a great play. but he seems to have been keeping the pitches low inducing ground balls he needs to be successful. he also has a breaking ball working today looks like a slider or a weak curve cant tell, most likely a curve. would like to have him keep improving and eventually be a solid #2 pitcher that he can be, just needs to be consistent with his location.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
Diamond returns the favor on us to get out of the inning.

Raburn can't play second very well
August 26th, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
Raburn can't play anywhere very well.
August 26th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
When you are hitting .237 with 39 RBI's near the end of August, I guess you don't need to field any position well
August 26th, 2011 at 9:48 PM ^
I love watching Raburn flail around miserably in the infield.
August 26th, 2011 at 10:31 PM ^
Leyland for playing Raburn. Sure his defense leaves alot to desired, but he has heated up at the plate since the start of the second half(as usual) and gives the lineup some extra pop. Oh and he has 3 hits tonight as well.
Wouldn't be a Tiger thread without people ragging on Leyland for some reason though, even when the team is playing extremely well right now.
August 26th, 2011 at 11:56 PM ^
While I agree with the sentiment, nobody mentioned (let alone ragged on) Leyland prior to your post.
EDIT: Didn't see the subject of the post about that says "Thanks Jim." Move along.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
A lot of men on base tonight, hopefully it doesn't come back to bite them in the end!
August 26th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
Good to see Porcello finally with a decent start in August. Thought we would jump all over this Diamond guy early, though. Can't wait for Boesch back.
August 26th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
Spoke to soon! Go Tigers!
August 26th, 2011 at 10:39 PM ^
I see you Delmon! I'm starting to feel that he needed a change of scenery in order to get back into the game mentally. He is really playing well since we acquired him.
August 26th, 2011 at 11:33 PM ^
he was injured and he had been playing well right before he was traded. he is a great player and the tigers stole him from the twins.

Should be fun tomorrow. Verlander going for number 20 tomorrow with a national tv audience tuning in. I'm sure JV will put on quite a show for the nation. Mario Impemba will be doing the play by play for Fox.
August 26th, 2011 at 11:51 PM ^
Wonder who will get the spot start against the Royals next week? Could we please get another glimpse at Mr. Turner....please please?
August 27th, 2011 at 2:08 AM ^
Dont want to speak too soon, but the pitching is really stepping it up when we needed them. Fister and Porcello with awesome starts recently. If they can string a few together we will be in great shape come the playoffs.
