OT- Tigers-Orioles game 1

Submitted by WMUgoblue on

Well it's playoff time, here's tonight's pitching matchup.

Detroit

  • Max Scherzer
  • 18-5, 220.1 IP and a 3.15 ERA
  • FIP: 3.12
  • K/9: 10.29
  • BB/9: 2.57

Baltimore

  • Chris Tillman
  • 13-6, 207.1 IP and a 3.34 ERA
  • FIP: 4.01
  • K/9: 6.51
  • BB/9:2.86

After a horrific start to the season Tillman has really come on during the 2nd half to become Baltimore's pseudo Ace.

Living in Baltimore this is sort of a dream come true for me, hopefully the Tigers have a good showing here and take a split back home to Comerica with them. I'm heading over to Camden in about 20 minutes but here's a gamethread in case anyone wanted it. EAT EM UP!

EDIT: Posting starting lineups here too

Hmmm, surprised that Scherzer is starting (well, not really), I read yesterday it was going to be Price.

Sadly, mine is not a sports person, so it requires either my stored absence time (I do have a certain number of hours that I bank for sports emergencies) or coming down with something suddenly after a staff meeting. Fortunately, it normally isn't an issue save for March Madness and a few select postseason baseball games.

It's very important to take the first game in a 5 game series. I'm optimistic that the Tigers can make it past Baltimore. I don't like the potential Angels ALCS match-up. I guess I'm rooting for Kansas City, weird.

It's a bit cliche, but taking this first game is huge for the Tigers.  Verlander has been too erratic to expect a sweep, but a split here makes it really interesting going back to Detroit.  I know people have been talking up Baltimore winning 96 games, but as someone forced to watch the AL East most of the year, it's not that strong of a division and Baltimore kind of hung on be default.  I suspect it will go to 5, but especially without Chris Davis this Baltimore offense doesn't scare me as much.

in that series as a Ranger a couple years ago. Almost single-handling beat the Tigers. Hopefully, they can control him this time.

Also I don't think Davis is nearly as big of a loss for Baltimore as people are making it out to be. He was hitting .196 at the time of his suspension. He did have 26 homers and 72 RBI's, but he was not nearly the same player this year as he was last.

If Sherzer starts games 1 & 5, and Price starts game 3, then neither will be available for game 1 in the ALCS (I think). That means that both Sherzer & Price will only pitch 2 games each if the Tigers advance.

does Gary Sheffield have a big wad of chew while doing pregame or are his cheeks large from steroids?
