OT- Tigers-Orioles game 1
Well it's playoff time, here's tonight's pitching matchup.
Detroit
- Max Scherzer
- 18-5, 220.1 IP and a 3.15 ERA
- FIP: 3.12
- K/9: 10.29
-
BB/9: 2.57
Baltimore
- Chris Tillman
- 13-6, 207.1 IP and a 3.34 ERA
- FIP: 4.01
- K/9: 6.51
-
BB/9:2.86
After a horrific start to the season Tillman has really come on during the 2nd half to become Baltimore's pseudo Ace.
Living in Baltimore this is sort of a dream come true for me, hopefully the Tigers have a good showing here and take a split back home to Comerica with them. I'm heading over to Camden in about 20 minutes but here's a gamethread in case anyone wanted it. EAT EM UP!

Hmmm, surprised that Scherzer is starting (well, not really), I read yesterday it was going to be Price.
Division winner problems. /s

Price is starting Game 3. He started our last game of the season, which turned out to be our division clinching win. Perhaps that's where you got mixed up.

would be slightly short rest to start price today since he pitched sunday. no reason not to start scherzer today.

a reliable stream? I have struggled lately with vip and firstrow.

Fire Bran......
Oh, wrong thread. Carry on.

I'm choosing to think of other things during these desperate times as a Michigan fan.

That's awesome that you get to be there. Have fun and go Tigers!

Let's get those bats going early and often!

ending what sounds like an awesome weekend with probably the lowest part. Let's hope M some how puts it together finally and the Tigers take at least 1!

My boss told me to go home early so I can watch this game. I love my job.

Sadly, mine is not a sports person, so it requires either my stored absence time (I do have a certain number of hours that I bank for sports emergencies) or coming down with something suddenly after a staff meeting. Fortunately, it normally isn't an issue save for March Madness and a few select postseason baseball games.

by Scherzer and Verlander, clinch on Sunday with Price.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:32 PM ^
They didn't post the record they did, for no reason. I think the Tigers will have to work harder than that, in order to win this series.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:44 PM ^
won 5 of 6 meetings this year
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:53 PM ^
Baltimore has played at a different level than that in the second half. The Tigers can win this series, but anybody who thinks it will easy is not giving Baltimore enough credit.

It's very important to take the first game in a 5 game series. I'm optimistic that the Tigers can make it past Baltimore. I don't like the potential Angels ALCS match-up. I guess I'm rooting for Kansas City, weird.

LA has been a house of horrors for the Tigers.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:36 PM ^
there and lost two games 2-1. During a stretch when they weren't playing very well.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:41 PM ^
That one win is the lone one for the Tigers since 2012. They are 1-9 there in the last 10.
October 2nd, 2014 at 5:34 PM ^
be rooting for KC. Tigers have played awesome there this year, and the other posts detail their futility in Anaheim.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:21 PM ^
Let's go Tigers!
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:26 PM ^
Max will be pitching for his next paycheck. Expect him to miss many bats in the next couple outings.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:32 PM ^
Sucks.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:31 PM ^
It's a bit cliche, but taking this first game is huge for the Tigers. Verlander has been too erratic to expect a sweep, but a split here makes it really interesting going back to Detroit. I know people have been talking up Baltimore winning 96 games, but as someone forced to watch the AL East most of the year, it's not that strong of a division and Baltimore kind of hung on be default. I suspect it will go to 5, but especially without Chris Davis this Baltimore offense doesn't scare me as much.

in that series as a Ranger a couple years ago. Almost single-handling beat the Tigers. Hopefully, they can control him this time.
Also I don't think Davis is nearly as big of a loss for Baltimore as people are making it out to be. He was hitting .196 at the time of his suspension. He did have 26 homers and 72 RBI's, but he was not nearly the same player this year as he was last.

but the central is not exacltly murderers row with Minne, Cleve and Chi Sox. But, I totally get what you are saying...

C'mon, guys. My sports fandom needs SOME redemption in 2014.
October 2nd, 2014 at 5:07 PM ^
If Sherzer starts games 1 & 5, and Price starts game 3, then neither will be available for game 1 in the ALCS (I think). That means that both Sherzer & Price will only pitch 2 games each if the Tigers advance.

couldn't start until at least next Friday. That would be Scherzer's 5 day between starts, so touch and go to start. If the ALCS starts Saturday he could go with no problem.

Well that was not an ideal start for the Tiger's postseason.
October 2nd, 2014 at 5:47 PM ^
Definitely not an auspicious beginning. This guy Tillman has bedeviled the Tigers a bit this year. Guys gotta wake up!
October 2nd, 2014 at 5:52 PM ^
They are free-swinging team, that is for sure. Not sure that is a good approach to take in the playoffs.
October 2nd, 2014 at 5:50 PM ^
Welp

HUGE double play.

Fuck.
