(First forum topic, Mods feel free)
Awesome! I've been trying to find a way to get tho this game. I'd likely just bring my dad as a birthday present, so if anyone wants to make a lottery pool with me (if you win, I get 2 of your tickets at face value, and vice versa) then let me know. I went in for the upper and lower midfield tickets.
I live close to Columbus, so judging by what Ticketmaster said, I should have some preference (they stated proximity would matter to avoid scalpers).
They've played every us - mexico home qualifier in columbus since 2001 with good results (actually the same result). No reason to mess with a streak.
I have a buddy that works in the US soccer organization and he has told me that Klinsman loves columbus and if he had a choice, would play all the qualifiers there. I know we hate them because of Ohio State but the international soccer atmosphere there is amazing. If were gonna complain about video boards then Wrigley Field is horrible place to watch a game %s
Columbus has a HUGE and very loyal soccer contingent. Gamedays at Crew stadium are a blast.
Rather play Mexico in Columbus than L.A. or Chicago for that matter, I live in Mexico and I know that's why, at least that's what people in Mexico think.
Since they only have sideline and corner tickets available does that mean endline tickets (because I'm cheap) will be available at a later date without the lottery?
Probably not. Tickets here are in extremely high demand. Go to Stub Hub and check the going rates. They're higher than UTL or The Game. If you're cheap, you should have bought 4 and sold two. You could have gone for free, or even for a profit.
I think all the endline tickets went to supporters groups.
The supporters section typically buys the enline tickets and they had so much demand for this game that I believe they took both endlines and are creeping in on the sidelines.
Columbus != Pasadena in terms of the population demographic. I expect the crowd to be largely a US contingent.
Here are a few photos from past USA v Mexico matches. I'm sure there will be green, but I bet there will be more red.
You're actually mistaken. US soccer specifically chooses Columbus to give the US home advantage. That's what they've done since 2001 and it's worked every time. Because the stadium's small, they can better control the ticketing. There will probably be about 5k Mexican supporters, but the vast majority of the crowd will be pro-US. Not to mention that they've already filtered 3k+ tickets through various US supporter groups.
Historically it hasn't been the case, they've done the Mexico qualifier in Columbus several times now and it's a big homefield advantage for the US every time. Columbus has a relatively small Mexican population, Cleveland (most Latinos there are Puerto Rican) and Cincy's are almost non-existent. And with a limited number of tickets in Crew Stadium and so many going to supporters groups, it's usually minimum 75% US supporters in the stadium, likely greater.
I have at least 8 people who would be willing to go (if not more) so if anyone wants to enter for the heck of it and doesnt want to go, I'll be more than happy to take them off your hands. :)
