OT: Stanley Cup Playoffs

Submitted by uncle leo on

Haven't seen too much discussion about the NHL playoffs to this point.

Main reason bringing this up is because Chicago got SWEPT last night by Nashville, don't think anyone saw that coming.

Other than that, most of these games have been awesome. Tons of OT, close matchups.

Sadly, Pittsburgh won their series. But if Boston and Chicago (already lost) both go out together, I'll take that all day.

A lot of really good games and really good series. With neither of my teams in the playoffs, I'm just pulling for a Canadian team to break the streak and win it all.

And a lifelong Wings fan.  I have lived in CBus for 26 years.  This Blue Jackets team was great and was great because for the first time they had 2 Wolverines, and Detroiters, in Jack Johnson and Zach Werenski.  I get what the NHL is trying to do, but the fans got jobbed of a home series as the 3 seed and we got the Pens in the first round.  We would have had to beat them eventually, but it would have been nice for a young team to get some experience in the playoffs.  Fluery was a Cup winning goalie last night with 50 saves.  The Pens are real.

I've got mixed feelings on Pittsburgh. Of course after 08/09 I couldn't stand Crosby/Malkin/etc. and I still don't root for them. But watching them over the past couple of postseasons, their style of play is so entertaining, I find myself tuning into their games over other more competitive series. Hopefully their success breeds more teams moving to a faster, more skill based brand of hockey, and the goonery that took over the NHL for the past 15 years will go away for good.

I do beleive that Pittsburgh represents the future of the NHL and I hope the wings try to build a team similar. A bunch of fast young players. they are tearing up bigger slower, more veteran teams. They have a good chance to repeat.

I have the same feelings as you. Torn a little, but I'm just a big fan of great hockey and they play great hockey. I've enjoyed watching Crosby tear it up with the two kids, Guentzel and Sheary. That's a really fun line to watch and it allows them to spread their elite talent throughout their other lines. If their goaltending stays hot they're almost unbeatable in a seven game series.

Has Crosby really grown up?  He's just less obvious about being a douche than he was previously.

One month ago, he blasted Ryan O' Reilly in the family jewels with his stick for no apparent reason.

Let's go Rangers!

But in all seriousness, these playoffs have been great thus far. Monday night, in itself was world class. All 4 games went to Overtime, first time since 1985 that's happened!

Chicago getting absolutely demolished so convincingly will warm my bitter heart all summer long.  Perhaps for years.

I hope, hope, hope that the Keith fade is real and that the Seabrook and Hossa contracts completely impede their ability to reload.

I don't remember the last time I had that much fun watching hockey. Poetically enough, the D who scored the game winner for Edmonton was on the Sharks Stanley Cup Finalist team last year. In the west, I am pulling for the Oilers or the Preds, both are fun, both have passionate and loyal, yet somewhat tortured fanbases in terms of recent successes. In the East, I would like the Leafs to take care of the Caps, I'm ok with the Penguins (Hagelin and Kessel are among my favorite players.) but I want to see Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal make it to the final. The Canadian teams dont win the Cup meme is running old on me. Despite no Red Wings, I am having a lot of fun watching this postseason.

I can't stand Crosby but respect his skills. Yet I was thrilled to watch the Pens eliminate the Jackets. I can't stand anything Columbus. Also I root for Ian Cole, the only Cup winner born in Ann Arbor.

And really hope San Jose loses.  Watched them lose in OT last night.  Smiles.  I'm ok with anyone else winning except for Pittsburgh.  Hopefully, next year, I'll be able to root for the Red Wings in the playoffs rather than rooting against other teams...

Western Conference's top seed Hawks crashing and burning so spectacularly brings a grin to my face. Only scored 3 goals, and are broomed out with a clean sweep by Nashville.

Caps all they want. Every game decided bt 1 goal. Four games out of five went O/T. Series stands 3-2 for Caps. Leafs still not out of it. Babcock is turning that franchise around. No cups in 50 years, but that will probably change during his tenure there.

Ahh yes, the annual tradition of seeing the Caps be one of the best teams during 82 games and then choking in the playoffs.  However, this year, I think the Caps put that behavior behind them and show up.  There was a stretch back in February, I think, where the Caps were putting up five goals a game and allowing zero, it seemed.  Need that Holtby back to grind this out for the Cup.

Also, a big LOL to Chicago - pathetic showing.  And fuck off rags.
