Seriously, this is getting out of hand. I loved him in everything but the Harry Potter films, and even there he was probably the best actor on screen.

and she wants to come home from school because Alan died. She loves the HP films and Snape was one of her favorites.
I liked him in Die Hard and Quigley Down Under.

...loved him in Bottle Shock. Before she became ill, we enjoyed traveling to wine country together and his performance in that movie was stellar.
I have a feeling she is striking up a beautiful conversation with him now...

my sense of decorum here. I so badly want to make a joke about your late wife having a "conversation" with Mr. Rickman, but I can't bring myself to do it.
Unless you killed her for cheating on you or something. Then I could make the joke.
/sorry for your loss. I really hope I die first.

The same foe Rickman battled. It there had been justice, I would have been taken in her place.

That's awful. Sorry again.

I sincerely hope she is.

He was great, but there was an awful lot of competition for that particular honor, they had a ton of good actors in the adult roles in that series.
Wow, that said this better be the end of this bad things come in threes business: Lemmy, Bowie and Alan Rickman is enough, thank you.

And for those of us who are a little older--Hans Gruber. Seemed like an utterly decent guy, and whenever he was on screen he was a pleasure to watch.

This was published on MTV.com, for some reason about a year ago -- but it's an excellent oral history of Galaxy Quest. Some good Rickman stories in there, such as:
"Parisot: You can’t get annoyed at Tim (Allen). Tim is like your little brother who comes in and just goofs around. Maybe it got annoying for Alan, but you could never tell whether that was Alan being in character or Alan actually responding to Tim.
Mitchell: They would call action four times, but we didn’t hear because we were laughing so hard. And Alan is looking at us like, “Really, man?”
Pyle: I think Alan had a great time, I just think he was like . . . what exactly are you doing?

I'm not sure what other actor could portray annoyance/disgust in such a wonderful manner as Alan Rickman. I'm sure he used that to his advantage in real life.

What a funny movie and a great role for him as a method actor stuck in a genre series, must have been the most Meta role ever.

Because, it will hurt more YOU IDIOT!
By the way, that movie also wins for the most random F-bomb in movie history. It's almost as if Slater threw it in there as a joke, but they left it in.

just because he was so ON, and it was his first major movie role, so it was a testament to his ability.
You're right though, he was about the ONLY good thing in RH that made it watchable.
Outstanding actor, and from all I've read, a wonderful person too. He will be sorely missed.
January 14th, 2016 at 8:26 AM ^
He was great in Love Actually too.

I really thought he was immortal after he survived this fall...

While the background is completely fake and pretty goofy looking (this was pre-CGI), that shot is completely real. When they shot this scene he did not know that they were going to drop him yet, so when they did he was completely caught off guard.

was a ground breaking special effect at the time. It was the first time a green screen was used in that way. I remember it being talked about on some TV program probably 25 years ago.
