OT - Rex Ryan calls Gholston a phony, writes story about brother's baseball glove.

Submitted by samsoccer7 on

Rex Ryan is set to release a book in the near future.  Among other things, Ryan discusses how he told Mangini (who at the time was the Jets coach while Ryan was with the Ravens) not to draft Gholston.  He said about Gholston "Truth be told, I didn't like the kid coming out of college.... He's a good athlete and a smart guy, but I thought he was a phony."

Those are pretty damning words I would say.  Gholston was cut last year and I haven't even cared to find out what he's been doing since.  Interesting stuff.

out there. Mostly it gets used by heavyset, not-so-intelligent guys when they feel threatened by intelligent or smooth guys. I mean, how deep does such an accusation go? Not too.

As a Giants fan who has seen two super bowl victories in the last twenty years, calling the Jets - they of zero Super Bowl appearances in the past 40 years - Big Brother is laughable.

As a Patriots fan who has seen three Super Bowl victories in the past 10 years, I do not understand where Rex Ryan's arrogance comes from. I say arrogance because his attitude goes beyond confidence. It's the Jets god damn it. The Jets. They either are decent or picking first in the draft. They're the Jets god damn it.

That was the Sunday when like 100,000 people wearing black and yellow bought beer from us, and like 1,000 people wearing teal were wandering around asking where they can get a "Moe-Cat Chinola Tay" right?

Man that day was weird. Only normal thing I saw all afternoon was pathetic officiating at a Detroit sporting event.

Gholston may be a "phoney"...who knows....his physique certainly is questionable....

but....

As "phoney" as Gholston's body and game may (or may not) be....

at least he does not pimp his wife out on the internet for foot -fetish-swinger- sex like Coach Rex Ryan does.

and Rex Ryan is a DICK for calling out any player 1 year removed from his roster who didnt do anything morally wrong... last year in training camp on HBO Ryan was talking a totally different story....

Gholston looked like God in one game against Michigan, and parlayed that into a lot of attention and an inappropriately high draft rating.  Besides, of all the players who played for Tressel, how many have turned into solid NFL players and citizens?

All of the guys from TSIO for whom I have a shred of respect played for Woody, Earle Bruce, or John Cooper.  It is common knowledge that Earle Bruce used to go to the racetrack with Art Schlichter, but at least Bruce put out some solid people when it was all said and done. Tressel just teaches players how to be arrogant and entitled.

When you are an ex-football player without enough talent for the NFL, who didn't bother to go to class often, being arrogant and entitled is no substitute for having gone to classes and taken your own exams.

I actually talked to one of the independent scout about Gholston.  He said that he gave him a 4th round grade and though that the Jets really reached for Gholston. His biggest problem with Gholston is he has stiff hips which doesn't allow him to bend in pass rush and get washed out easily.  It shows on the NFL field in which he failed to record a sack.
