OT: Red Wings v Blue Jackets (here's hoping the other night was a fluke) all purpose thread

7:30 EST on NBCSports (or versus for those of us who just can't give up the ghost.)

A solid showing tonight will help us all feel a little better about that thing that happened Saturday night.

I think you are overstating what the wings are missing... Kindl is day-to-day with a sore groin. Helm is day-to-day with a sore back (no damage shown on MRI last week). Bertuzzi's mono could prove an issue but that all depends on how long he may/may not be out. Hudlers was replaced by Samuelsson (pretty even statisticaly).

That being said I agree with your intial comment about lousy NBA teams being the reason the Pistons win more games.  I see the wings winning something between 26-29 games and being the 6th-7th seed.

My outdoor hockey game tonight got cancelled due to a wind chill advisory of between -15 and -25 degrees.  Bunch of wimps over here in Chicago, apparently!

Anyway, at least I can watch the whole game tonight.  Go Wings!

test proved negative. I better see an 100% difference from Saturday night because we looked worse than Michigan hockey this year, in St Louis. That was beyond embarrassing to watch. hopefully Mike has his guys ready to roll in Cbus. Teams in need a of a win right now are Detroit, Philly, NYR and LA. Things could get very ugly if we start out slow in a 48 game season. That can not happen.

we flat out failed to skate on Saturday.  we didn't have our legs under us, and we didn't put in that extra effort.  its the same as last year.

honestly, as much as losing nick and stevie y has and will hurt this franchise, the most underrated retirement was losing drapes.  dude was the wings best defensive center in his prime.  he could win faceoffs and was the grittiest mofo ever.  he would skate hard, win battles in the corners, finish every check, and do all of this against the opponents top line.  and because this old dude was playing his ass off, all the kids followed his example.

helmer is the heir apparent, but the dude needs to stay healthy.

but its sad, cuz i just dont see the same effort out of abdelkader, mursak, emmerton, etc.

also, this team needs more gustav nyquist.

Money wasn't an issue. On top of Lidstroms and Holmstroms contracts ending we freed up $16 mil from Hudler leaving.  We picked up 4 FAs with that same $16 mil, plus almost $30 mil in new contracts. We had plenty of cap room and prospects to trade for Nash last year. At least the majority of our contracts are 2 and 3 year deals so they have some flexibility in the future.

much better.  one thing i noticed on previous pps was that our break out of our zone and into the opposing zone was piss poor.  on this last pp, we were able to get the puck in the zone, possess it, and give our playmakers a chance to work their magic.

thats the curse of a puck possession team like the wings - when they don't have the puck, or even proper control of the puck, they can be abysmally bad.
