OT: Playsheet Wristband of the Future?
Huddle up, fellas! [taps display on forearm]
Alright, we've got "flip right double-X jet 36 counter naked wagglet seven X quarter" on two, on two!
Ready? Break!!
Oh wait - bring it back in! I just got a snapchat from Coach's wife. Check this out...

No way something like that actually works. But it's very cool.

"And folks, that's his 17th missed tackle. I'm not quite sure why he is going for the playbook."

This looks like one of those really cool concepts people use Kickstarter to scam people out of their money.

Can we make my car drive itself on vacation before we start talking about holographic display wristbands please?
January 9th, 2015 at 2:23 PM ^
Severely limiting speed and making it look ridiculous on purpose.

A sexy Audi with a V8 or this stupid-looking thing? Hmmmm..
January 9th, 2015 at 3:28 PM ^
I'm pretty sure they wanted it to look so dumb that you would feel like an idiot for being afraid of it.
January 9th, 2015 at 3:03 PM ^
Got a pop can and a Mercedes? Congrats! You've got an autonomous car!
January 9th, 2015 at 1:41 PM ^
Yeah, they haven't actually produced any of these things yet, it's just a concept and not even to the point of prototype.
An OLED sleeve that you would wear on your arm seems much more plausible, even if it would look dorkier
January 9th, 2015 at 3:03 PM ^
There are some fun materials challeges with this idea like durable flexible circuit boards. The concept in the video has some other fun challenges like how to get a reliable resposnse to the user input.
I could see this as being more promising than an OLED wristband because of the form factor. I just don't see people wearing sleeve if they don't have to.

Not sure how well it would hold up with a porous offensive line.
January 9th, 2015 at 1:44 PM ^
That would have been awesome had it not all been done with CG.

Damn iframes.

Does it come with a razor?
January 9th, 2015 at 1:47 PM ^
Id rather see the focus on a hoverboard or lightsaber. But its kinda cool.

....does not exist per this Canadian publication - LINK
"Here’s the problem – this bracelet doesn’t exist. There’s no selection of colours available, no storage size options, no advanced projection system that reacts to your touch on your skin. What’s depicted in the video is the work of post-production special effects, not a prototype piece of technology in action. That’s because no prototype exists."
However, the crowdfunding portion of this is real - if you give these four dudes the money, they'll see what they can do, more or less.

Now I'm out another 100. Just like the Michigan Throwback Jerseys posted here.
January 9th, 2015 at 2:17 PM ^
I dunno...
It seems to me like a radio in the helmet would work just as well for calling plays.
January 9th, 2015 at 6:27 PM ^
What the heck is the rule on that?
The technology is obviously there. Even having just the QB have a radio would be great for coaches to give the QB up-to-the-second information pre-snap. Imagine all the players having receivers and the QB being able to audible without having to yell.
I have to figure it's not allow ... certainly not in college, but pros as well?

and feed it to their own team /s
January 9th, 2015 at 2:17 PM ^
But I've always thought the QB wrist playsheet was a prototype for a future watch/computer/phone. This goes one step further incorporating XBox Kinect-like technology along w/ projection.
I'll take the under if the O/U is 5 years on something like this coming out for real at a consumer price.

HUD displays on their Visors ?

a projection from the bracelet and yet no shadow cast by the finger... ? Also the projection moves on the forearms subtley and the water didn't cause any distortion on the skin.
have a feeling we will be "there" eventually though with this concept

I could see something working in that capability fairly easily however not in that complexity.
They've had IR keyboard for years and I have to believe technology similar to the below which has existed for almost 10 years now has been developed.
Obvious issues are miniturizing the electronics into something that small and battery. If it was only projecting from a smartphone similar to gadget gear etc, it's that much more plausible as a stand alone device would be that much harder to fit things inside a wrist strap. Clearly it's a prototype idea video and while I believe this is entirely plausible, you'd be more likely carrying around a wrist weight with current technology and have an awful barely responsive interface which would display awfully because our wrists/forearm are not flat surfaces.
Too long of a post, looks cool but maybe in 10 years, however by then there will be something cooler to replace this anyway...
January 9th, 2015 at 5:40 PM ^
So fake.
January 9th, 2015 at 7:00 PM ^
There is NO way anyone can do anything like that for a long time. It would take a MASSIVE amount of light to make something like that visible in sunlight. Massive amounts of light generate massive amounts of heat. Where is the heat going to go? You'd burn your wrist off.
As somone upthread said, the OLED sleeve is WAY more likely, as thin bendable screens are happening right now. So it's plausable that you could wear a thin bendable screen on your arm sometime in the near future. But just projecting light onto your arm? Forget it. That won't happen until someone figures out how to create massive amounts of light without generating heat. And I suspect there would be far greater applications of that kind of breakthrough.

Maybe the projection is just a logical representation of what you are doing with your hand.
And maybe it can also shoot a web to catch criminals
