OT: Noah Cain (PSU RB) to the portal
Has two years of eligibility left because of last year's freebie. Had a promising frosh year, but has been kind of meh since.
at 5'10, 220lbs he could the the thunder to replace Haskins. I'd love to see what Mike Hart could do with him.
That said, he's from Louisiana, so I'm not going to hold my breath.

IIRC - we were recruiting him pretty hard for a while out of high school but he would have to be a grad transfer for Michigan to have even an outside chance.
January 12th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
Pretty set at RB next year besides a depth piece IMO.
January 12th, 2022 at 5:36 PM ^
Four scholarship RBs next year at the moment, and Dunlap is the only "thunder" back in the four (if we keep with the thunder/lighting rotation). Cain would add a lot if we could get him.
January 12th, 2022 at 11:10 PM ^
I think Edwards runs with a lot of power and aggression actually. He can definitely be a power back, especially after a year in a college weight room.
January 14th, 2022 at 7:11 AM ^
There’s a line (body wise) between power and speed. I like Edwards right where he’s at. Sure he could get stronger, but wouldn’t want him to lose that breakaway speed and elusiveness he possesses. Seeing what he did against Maryland was friggin awesome and made me giddy as hell for the next 2 yrs with him.
January 12th, 2022 at 6:40 PM ^
One more would be ideal. All signs to us adding one via the 22 class or the portal.
Cain could be a great fit and Bellamy recruits very well in Louisiana so that piece doesn't scare me.
Our Admissions office is what scares me most.
January 12th, 2022 at 7:22 PM ^
Agreed. Grad transfers, we have a shot, undergrads, not so much.
January 12th, 2022 at 8:45 PM ^
Hoping we get one from the portal that has the experience and we get one more from 22. Granted it's really early, but I don't see us getting one of the top RB's in 23, so I don't have a problem with us taking 2+ each cycle
January 12th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
Fumble.
January 12th, 2022 at 5:32 PM ^
Penn State does not fuck around when you enter the portal. I wanted to see his bio from their roster. Already gone. For comparison, Dan Villari is still on ours.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
January 12th, 2022 at 5:33 PM ^
We have no real reason to bring in a transfer at RB. Corum & Edwards, barring injury, are going to be a great tandem.
We do need some backup depth, but you don't bring in a transfer for that.
January 12th, 2022 at 5:48 PM ^
And yet we did pursue one out of Arizona State, so clearly the staff thinks it wouldn't hurt to have established thunder in the rotation.
January 12th, 2022 at 7:58 PM ^
The majority of our transfers have been backup depth. However I'm sure a former 5 star like Cain is looking for a place to start.
January 12th, 2022 at 10:13 PM ^
The coaches have already offered transfers because the team needs a power back. You need 3-4 playable backs these days.
January 12th, 2022 at 10:33 PM ^
The "barring injury" part is the issue. It's pretty common to have 1 or 2 RBs injured at the same time. It's a rough position. If Corum goes down again, Edwards would have his work cut out for him and vice versa.
You'd like to have a little more depth than Stokes and Dunlap.
That said, a transfer like Cain is probably looking to be a feature back somewhere so I don't see it as a fit.
January 12th, 2022 at 5:33 PM ^
He probably wants to run behind an OL that actually blocks people.
January 12th, 2022 at 5:35 PM ^
Yep, their OL was probably PSU's most glaring weakness the last couple of years
January 12th, 2022 at 6:05 PM ^
Pretty sure he was a 5 star, I know he underwhelmed last year too…but I also know Penn State and Franklin could care less about truly developing a real Oline. So I think it sounds wise to go after him.

January 12th, 2022 at 6:18 PM ^
He is a good player. If the roster allows for him it would be foolish not to make a pitch. Particularly with Corum hobbled for much of the year, his durability could be an issue. My guess is that Cain is looking to be more of a feature back than our RB situation would allow for, though.

I know Filiaga has already gotten his degree, but Seth's exit post said he was likely to test the NFL waters. Could he have stayed at Michigan?
January 12th, 2022 at 6:21 PM ^
Yes. I thought it a bit of an odd transfer. He was starter-ish here already. Not sure what a year being starter-ish at Minnesota gets him.
January 12th, 2022 at 6:45 PM ^
Not odd at all. Chuck has one year left and needs more game tape for the NFL. He has never been a full time starter at Michigan and he wasn’t going to be next year with the guard spots already spoken for. He put in his time and got his degree. I would assume he will step into a full time starter role at Minnesota.
January 12th, 2022 at 6:54 PM ^
But he was not a starter here, he was a backup who started due to injury, and he will be a starter at Minnesota...
January 12th, 2022 at 7:01 PM ^
Yeah, he may be. I don’t really think anybody knows that though. Clearly I don’t know his business, it just seemed strange to me, personally. Fighting for a starting guard job in a run heavy offense on a CFP level team is not a bad spot to be in.
January 12th, 2022 at 7:02 PM ^
Seth said “Chiliaga, who earned his dichigan Megree after the 2020 season, might have tested the NFL taters was well, and a strong 6th season granted by the free YOVID cear could catapult him into the draft.”
As in he probably tested them, realized he wasn’t draftable yet, and is going to transfer in hopes of becoming a 6th year starter elsewhere to eventually become draftable.
January 12th, 2022 at 8:08 PM ^
Fuck! Seth needs to do some spellchecking!
Seth said: Chiliaga, who earned his dichigan Megree
But then again, I don’t even have a Megree… especially not one from Dichigan like Chilliaga does!
As for the NFL taters, those are the best. Especially the Skins!
And I read somewhere they prevent Yovid too!
January 12th, 2022 at 6:57 PM ^
Credits won't transfer!
January 12th, 2022 at 7:13 PM ^
He has a lot of talent but had a shit OL to open lanes for him. I remember him being a highly rated guy that Michigan went after in his HS days.
I don’t blame him for going somewhere else. Especially if he wants any hope of making it to the NFL. As long as he doesn’t go play for MSU or OSU, best of luck to him wherever he goes.
January 12th, 2022 at 7:38 PM ^
It’s tough making your first cut 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage, before even spotting a hole.
January 12th, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
So weird to consider that credits from a fellow B1G/BTAA/CIC school would not transfer to Michigan.
Fine, admissions people saying JUCO credits aren't equivalent, but seriously, Penn State's aren't either?
January 12th, 2022 at 8:14 PM ^
SORRY NO CHANCE. Penn State credits do not credit to the elite academic institution we have. Have you seen our kinesiology department? ELITE! All the amazing classes PSU players take will be about 3 credit hours at UM. ADMISSIONS BABY!
Meanwhile his credit hours will mean he is a 8th year college player at MSU. Congrats.
January 12th, 2022 at 8:17 PM ^
Hopefully he has matured a lot. When he was a recruit he did not leave a great impression among the then-current players with his attitude.
January 12th, 2022 at 11:57 PM ^
IIRC he was pretty bad against us, regardless of his OL
January 13th, 2022 at 8:37 AM ^
I like Dunlap.
I like Andrew Paul too.
Then there is Zeke Berry on tape.
Somehow we'll be covered.
January 14th, 2022 at 7:23 AM ^
I agree on Dunlap. Dude had an NFL rookie body his junior year in high school. I actually look for Dunlap to be a huge surprise next season, especially if Edwards or Corum go down.
