It has gottten better.  But many Japanese employers will suggest that employees resign if they get a cancer diagnosis.  Since it is possibly genetic, it can have impact on the broader family, children may no longer be suitable for marriage because they are percieved as potentially damaged goods.  Similar in a way they treat the Hibakusha and I have heard a similar stigma being attached to those exposed at Fukushima.

The entire Nintendo family is in mourning. He was a visionary leader for one of the most unique companies in the world.

He will be greatly missed.

Dude a lot of people have strong memories of playing a Nintendo game. For a lot of people, Nintendo games are their childhood. I get that you didn't know him personally, but if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all. Just give your condolences and move on.

The guy before Iwata, Hiroshi Yamauchi, was the one who built the Nintendo empire. Iwata carried the company into portable dominance and expanded the video game blueprint beyond the standard "gamer" into the "casual" market. Dude was revolutionary at a groundbreaking company. Impressive indeed.

He was also an amazing programmer. Dude single handedly programmed the Pokemon games into the GameBoy cartridge when Gamefreak was too incompetent to do what they were hired to do. LOL.

RIP. You will be missed.

I wonder if the Mariners will do anything since Nintendo is the principal owner of the team.

Spent way too much time playing Super Mario Brothers when I was a kid. Video games are way too difficult for me now. Still like to play Mario Kart sometimes.

I grew up playing NES (Duck Hunt was the shit). My grandmother was visiting once and she was playing Duck Hunt and I figured out that you could control the ducks with the controller. Needless to say she didn't shoot too many Ducks and I was lying on the ground chuckling to myself. Then my brother bought a Super Nintendo and a nice TV with his paper route money, we played NHL hockey on that thing for hours. I remember snooping through gifts before Christmas one year (my mom wasn't the best at hiding them) and I knew in advance that they bought us N64. It was really hard to fake the excitement on Christmas Day. Mario Kart on Nintendo 64 is one of my favorite games of all time. This is sad news for the Nintendo/Gaming family all around the world.

Iwata was part of the team that helped bring us Nintendo DS, and as I recall, he had a hand in the revitalization and contnuation to this day of the Legend Of Zelda family of games, which happen to be a favorite of mine as games go. He helped develop "Balloon Fight", "Kirby" and a few other notable games earlier in his career too, and the fact that he was a programmer that became a CEO was something of a rarity in gaming circles too, at least for a company of the scale of Nintendo. He will be sadly missed.

I heard he took a paycut after a bad fiscal year awhile back, that shows a level of character that is missing in western bussiness, While I don't have as much time for video games anymore, I'll always root for Nintendo!

This short intro is going to be up on gaming's Mt. Olympus from here on out. It's so quotable and just shows he gets it.

Dave Brandon should take notes.

The teams he built and led brought great happiness to a great many people. As a game-dev myself, I appreciate a particular quote of his... "On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer." Rest in peace, Iwata-san

He will be missed. Growing up playing n64 with my friends is something I will remember. We also used to play the hell out of WCW/NWO Revenge, Golden Eye, Star Fox, Mario Kart and Zelda. RIP.

How can I forget Super Smash Bros. I had a friend who used to go back to Japan and would bring back all these games that weren't released yet.

He had this adapter that allowed us to play all kinds of games. I remember thinking it was so cool playing Super Smash Bros before everyone else at our elementary school.

I just found out he was the man who made Pokemon stadium happen. hat was another game we played way before it was available domestically.

RIP. Thank you for giving me and my friends great times growing up.

Hopefully the next president will make the decision to become a third party game developer and make them for Xbox. I loved Nintendo. Last console I had is the Gamecube. Still have it, but it is sitting in a box somewhere. The Wii and Wii U both suck. I would love to be able to play Nintendo games again (especially Metroid, Mario, and Zelda), but I will never get a Nintendo console again.

Is your store in SE MI?  If not, do you have an online presense?

Also a retro gamer I'm always looking for stuff to buy and would like to give another mgoblogger the biz.
