OT: ND DL Jacob Lacey to Enter Portal

Former 2018 5A Player of Year in Kentucky; will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.  Wondering about his relationship with Elston? Kid was fairly productive in South Bend.

Nick Bosa is having a terrific NFL career after doing just that with no hint of performance or character issues. He’s only played in 4 games this season so he’d be preserving his redshirt by making this move. I’d take a chance on him as a grad transfer. Can never have too many DL.

Edit: apparently he was heartbroken over his decision and did not take it lightly. Sounds like a good kid.

Here's a link to his ESPN profile since I was left wanting more info about this guy.

He's an oddly shaped DL at 6-1, 280 who seems to have been a rotation player but not an impact player during his career based on the fact that he does have stats in most games, but hardly any of them.

I'd be happy to take on some depth with a player from a P5 team who Elston knows....but I'm skeptical of mutual interest.  We should remain pretty deep on the NT/DT/SDE front with the youth we have and he would likely be a depth piece not unlike Goode this season.  He might be looking for a bigger role and we might be looking for other pieces.  Would be happy to take him though.

Elston was his primary recruiter at ND for those wondering. Seems like we offered and he committed to ND the same day he took a visit to Michigan. So maybe there's something there. 2 sacks on the year so far.

But Lacey’s time was dwindling and trending in the wrong direction. After getting 29 snaps against Ohio State in the season-opener, he logged just 11 plays against Marshall, another 24 in his big performance against Cal, and then just nine at North Carolina.

The paragraph above is from one of the articles posted. Not every transfer is desirable.

Elston knows him.  And, if Elston thinks he'd be a valuable addition to the roster, then who am I to disagree with his knowledge and expertise.

Regardless, wishing Jacob well as he reaches his decision.

So the kid is Johnny Tryhard who is too small to play the position effectively at a high level, and we want him why??  The article literally said he couldn’t add the size and strength needed to play well.
