OT: Masters Final Round Open Thread
Final round is about to start with CBS coverage starting at 2. Post any and all thoughts/opinions/golf is not a sport diatribes here.
Rory McIlroy is the leader at -12, with Angel Cabrera, K.J. Choi, Jason Day and Charl Schwartzel all at -8. Tiger's back at -5 after a 3rd round 74, showing again that Tiger Woods 2.0 is still in the testing phases.
Looks like McIlroy's tournament to lose although it only takes a couple shots at AN to fall far in a hurry.
Tiger needs a birdie on 18.
Birdie gets the tie, but I think the Aussies will get to the -12 mark
Best Masters in a long time, anyone could take this
You're probably right, Scott looks very good right now and I'd be shocked if he didn't get to -12.
I agree, this Masters has been great and it looks like there's a very good chance at a playoff too. (unless Scott pulls away some more)
And as I typed this, Scott hit a terrible shot. Could cost him.
Tiger still has a chance albeit slim. I don't really like his chances now. He missed too many putts on the back 9.
Australians at the top?
Yup, one of the Aussies are gonna win...
is actually from South Africa. Scott and Day are the only Aussies with a shot at this point.
But still 3 of the 5 leaders at that point.
WITHOUT Tiger would be hilarious.
Come on, I want a playoff! I hope Schwartzel chokes.
Schwartzel guy kind of came out of nowhere.
Well, that should seal it unless he chokes hard.
Amazing performance by Charl.
The guy doesn't even have a whole first name, but he has a nice green jacket to wear now. This finish reminds me of O'Meara coming out of nowhere in 1998.
The Masters in the first couple holes
Heck of a game. I don't mean to be mean, but I hope he doesn't win like the next 10 tourneys. Watching him play is like watching K.J. Choi play. Excellent golfing, but there is just no emotion or anything.
I remember earlier this year randomly turning on the Golf Channel some Saturday morning and Schwartzel was winning a Euro tour event, and I laughed at his name then. I also think he ended up blowing his lead, but most of what I remember was how crappy the course looked compared to what I'm used to seeing at PGA events.
Nice to see him come and throw down an epic finish at the Masters though. I mean seriously, birdieing (is that even a word?) out from 15 on is crazy at a normal PGA stop, let alone Augusta.
Anyone else laugh at McIlroy's complete and utter meltdown on the 10th, 11th, and 12th? I'm a 15 handicap because I have a horrible short game, and even I can't remember the last time I four-putted, lightning-fast greens notwithstanding. I feel bad for the guy, but he was awfully cocky in his interviews after his first 3 rounds, and it seems to me he was always more concerned about showing up Tiger than actually beating everyone on Sunday.
