OT: LSU loses entire basketball team.
if you pay them, they will come.
somehow i think LSU will be able to field a team. wasn't IU in nearly the same boat last year?
That's true: re Indiana. But LSU is also staring down the barrel of (what should be) pretty hefty NCAA sanctions.
Will done left them in a knee-deep pile of shit without any Waders 😂
LSU should be staring down the barrel of it. They were the ones who instantly brought Wade back and supported him despite the damning evidence against him.
The cheating bastards can go fuck themselves.
a lot of people came back for IU though. I'm not sure that will happen for LSU
A lot of that depends on who the next head coach is. Mike Woodson has done a tremendous job saving that program over the past year. Also he's a former player and seems to be genuinely good person. The latter being a rarity in the sporting world.
Will LSU be able to find a similar candidate? Would that candidate even want the job? Hard to say for both.

I don't know who would want to take a job knowing that they are facing some potentially pretty hefty sanctions (all rightfully deserved). It's also going to hurt recruiting because who's gonna want to play for a team with potentially multiple postseason bans? It's like purchasing a ticket for the Titanic when you know how the story ends.
Except the "iceberg" in this case is the NCAA's version, which is made of cotton candy and rainbows.
There are 2 schools in this year's championship game that many of us were sure would be sunk a while ago, too.
Totally nuts losing the entire team.
Is this by chance an April Fool's article?
No - This is a strong a$$ reality.
Sums it up.
Get your resume updated - they’re going hire anyone with a heartbeat at this point!
Or not. Pulse optional.
They will have no problem putting a team toghether. I'm sure they can go to their local community college and poach the entire basketball roster. Shouldn't be any academic restrictions.
It'll just be an all-transfer team(they already have 3) and 3/low 4* players who aren't yet committed to the 2022 class. They have an unranked center who committed a few days ago, and wouldn't be surprised if they grab the remaining ranked players on 247 out of Louisiana. Depending on the punishment for the school, it could be an intriguing choice for recruits as it's basically guaranteed playing time.
I can't help but think of a picnic table a bunch of us strapped some floatation devices on and shoved out into a lake to have a place to set our drinks while we sat at the table. By the time we got to 15 people or so (it was a good sized table), the floatation devices could no longer keep the surface of the table above water, too much lard in bulk or something like that. When the wooden planks of the table went under water, that's when the bugs pulled up stakes and emerged. This metaphor works for me two ways. Obviously, the bugs leaving a sinking ship, but also the alacrity with which 15 fat guys (about the same number as basketball player on a team, BTW) jumped off that picnic table.
Suggestion for next time:
That sure sounds like a random awesome story analogy from your past that has nothing really to do with the topic.
You know, exactly the kind I would've posted if you didn't beat me to it. Nice one Grampy!
They’re picking up Murray State players (they were a good team last year) after getting the Racers coach.
In a way, the small school in western Kentucky may be the one hurt worst by these sanctions. (Insert Bobby Knight Cleveland State joke here)
With over 1,000 athletes in the transfer portal, they will be just fine. Lots of good mid majors are going to jump at guaranteed power 5 playing time.
I think these posts about them picking up new players miss the point--they have been shamed, and everyone walking away from the burning wreckage shames them further. Obviously, they can get more players.
Your giving people too much credit. Everyone who was involved and left knew exactly what they were getting into. They were shameless.
That's true. But I wasn't expecting that they would necessarily feel shame; I was saying that LSU had been exposed doing something shameful. It's a very public mark on LSU and its practices. In a world where everyone just yawns, it's good to see that institutions still get exposed, at least a little. And--yeah--it will be a pain in the ass for them, whether they can put together a team or not. Plus, they will suck!
Shame is an emotion reserved for people who also feel guilt or have a conscience. You can't shame the shameless. And LSU athletics and the boosters that make it happen don't particularly seem to care to walk the thin line as far as NCAA rules are concerned. Remember the school chose to keep Wade in his position and indignantly fight for years. Against all evidence to the contrary.
So, like you said, obviously they can get more players. And they will. Kids will line up to play D1 ball on a stage as big as the SEC. Sure, theyll likely have to wait a cycle to get the one or two big name kids they get every few years. Or maybe not, NIL may change even that.
But really, does anyone think this will change one inch of how LSU operates its athletic department department? Especially now in the age of NIL?
Completely off topic but I wonder what the percentage of kids who go to the transfer portal never get picked up by anyone.
That's a good question. I didn't find much in my quick google search for basketball, but someone looked at the numbers for football. Here's the article (with a caveat that I've never heard of Deseret News).
And here are the numbers for the B1G football players in the portal:
- 61.3% found new schools.
- 41.8% of players committed to P5 schools.
- 38.8% of players committed to G5 schools.
- 19.4% of players committed to FCS/DII schools.
- 46 players remain in portal.
It looks like there are over 1,000 basketball players in the portal which seems crazy. 247 has a story about it and the players in it.
Edit: Oops. Those are actually the numbers for the Big 12. It looks like the B1G has the worst record in terms of their transfer portal players finding new P5 schools at 36.2%.
if only 61.3 % found schools, then how could 41.8 and 38.8 and 19.4% have committed to P5/G5/FCS schools, respectively, with a total of 100%. pretend i am forrest gump, 'i am not a smart man'. okay, don't pretend, know that it's true.
Haha. That's a good question. I'm totally guessing here, and keep in mind that I'm not the sharpest cookie on the tree.
I think they are saying that "of the 61.3% that found new schools, this is the breakdown of where they went (P5, G5, FCS)." So the P5/G5/FCS distribution will add up to 100% (that is, it accounts for where all of the 61.3% of successful portal entrants found new schools).
Hope that makes sense. I've been up since 3am and my brain is completely out of it. For all I know, I'm actually asleep right now and this is all taking place in my dreams.
quit drinking and go to bed? probably not, just get some sleep.
Amazing feat to come up with a three way mixed metaphor in such a short sentence!
LSU lost their team. Maybe they'll look in the bag man's bag.
Any truth to the rumor that Crawfish Kelly is leaving LSU Football for LSU Basketball?
Should say Cray-Cray.
That was a former strip club that closed down at the start of the Covid crisis, right? I'm trying to give legs to this story.
this isn't football, they only need a few good players.
also this news is 2 days old.
also this news has nothing to do with Michigan.
also, that is all.
also this news has nothing to do with Michigan.
I just assumed this was why the OP began the title with 'OT'. I could be wrong though...
It absolutely has something to do with Michigan Basketball. Miller and Murray are now in the portal and we need to take a serious look at both of them.
The NCAA is so stupid
Maybe Brian Kelly can coach basketball too. More time to work on his accent.
Embarrassing program.
With the transfer portal, college basketball has become like going down to the rec building and picking up a team to play.
LSU got next.
LSU falling off the map the past year and half ... maybe the SEC bag man is true (knowing that it is)
I would imagine that LSU scrounges up a team somehow, not to mention a coach, but it is difficult to imagine 100% turnover translating into a lot of success in the coming season.
I guess it all starts with that ad in the paper - "Wanted: Basketball players - salary and benefits, must be occasionally willing to attend class as goodwill gesture to general student population."
They still have plenty of bagmen. LSU will have a young team next year, but they’ll have a team. There will also be plenty of kids in the transfer portal who will jump at the chance to play basketball in the SEC. Especially with the prospect of almost being guaranteed to play.
I heard the walk-ons and the managers de-committed, too.
Would you keep working if your paycheck stopped coming in?
I truly felt that if somehow Michigan would have done the unthinkable and fired Juwan over the hair feel that the entire team should have just said OK, FU, we're all out. Many talking dickballs that get paid to be assclowns were calling for it. Thankfully Warde wasn't that stupid.
