OT: Lifelike dolls fail to reduce teenage pregnancy rates, study says.
In honor of Everyone Murders's call to action on bad OT forum posts, I present this:
Now, upon first seeing the headline, my immediate thougth was that the study was done with lifelike adult sexdolls, to see if their use by teenage boys would lower the teen pregnancy rates, but apparently this was about something totaly different.
Pregnancy prevention programs, which use baby-simulating dolls to put teenagers off parenthood, actually have been found to have the reverse effect, according to a study published Thursday in medical journal, The Lancet.
“The risk of pregnancy is actually increased compared to girls who didn’t take part in the intervention,” said Sally Brinkman of the University of Western Australia, who led the study. “Similar programs are increasingly being offered in schools around the world, and evidence now suggests they do not have the desired long-term effect of reducing teenage pregnancy.”

Also they cry really loud and they throw up, which is nasty.
The simulator can't match the real thing.
If they can figure out how to simulate staying at home with a crying, fluid/solid-emitting baby while your friends go out and party, that might work.

Correct. Spending time with children or listening to people tell horror stories about them will probably do a better job making people think twice before they try to get pregnant.

This times 100. I have a 6 week old and a 3 year old at home, and although it's easier the second time around, a newborn is still a ton of work. Luckily the newborn is sleeping way better than her sister was at the same stage, but going to bed at 10 pm and getting your sleep in 2-3 hour chunks before having to wake up for diaper changes and burpings are definately not fun.

Get them to simulate two dolls waking each other up at 1AM with their cries and then have both of them screaming at the top of their lungs for the next 3 hours while you sit on the floor in tears wailing "WHAT COULD YOU POSSIBLY F***ING WANT??" because you need to get some sleep before you have to go to work in just a few hours. THEN maybe the dolls would be effective.

We jumped right in: our first two were twins. We tell people we really have no idea what the experience of having your first child is like, because when you have two right away, it's all hands on deck all the time.

I thought this would be about a different kind of lifelike doll.

When is OT season over? First CFB game or Michigan game week? I can't remember?

You know, I honestly didn't expect the last day of OT to be quite so....prolific, nor did I expect to learn that lifelike dolls do not make a dent in teenage pregnancy. Although to be absolutely fair, let's face it, if we as a community were going to be enlightened to this particular study, it was going to be today.
