That's just terrible. Thoughts are with his family. Too young.

a kid with a wonderful infectious personality and a joyous outlook on life. If you ever watched him pitch and respond to teammates in the dugout, you could just tell how he made all those around him feel better.
He missed two years of his career due to Tommy John surgery, but returned this spring and has compiled the kind of dominating stuff that marked him as one baseball's best pitchers. A two-time all-star, Fernandez at 24 is a Cuban native who three times tried to defect from the island nation and being jailed before arriving in Miami at 15. He was drafted out of high school by the Marlins. He was rookie of the year in the NL in 2013 and was practically unbetable at home. He was a great hitter, too, and no doubt the pitching foundation of the Marlins.
His body along with those of two others was discovered at about 3:30 am today by the Coast Guard after his 32-foot was discovered overturned on the jetties at the government cut off Miami beach.

Disagree completely. Boating at night is like boating in the day: it's quite safe if you're being safe and you know what you're doing. If you're screaming around at high speeds without lifejackets or an understanding of navigation lights or charts, which by all accounts so far is what happened, then no, it's not safe and that's what creates terrible accidents like this one.

This is what has always kept me from buying a boat. I don't know boating safety or how to learn it.

There's an organization called the United States Power Squadron which has local chapters just about anywhere there's water. They offer lots of seminars and courses on things like boating safety, navigation, boat handling, weather, etc. They're the go-to people for learning just about anything a boater should know. I highly recommend taking a look if you want to get into boating.

What a tragic loss.

Truly tragic. Devastating loss for the Cuban-American community, MLB, and his family. Rest in peace, Jose. Baseball and the world lost a great one way too soon.

...nothing good ever happens at 2 o'clock in the morning. Absolutely horrible. Perhaps the best young arm in the game.
