No, no, no, no...

That's terrible. Ugh. 24 years old, headed into his prime...an absolute beast and seemed like a great kid.

So sad.

Terrible news. Man, just awful.

This is one of the worst sports stories I have ever seen. For those of you who don't know baseball, Jose Fernandez was a 24 year old pitcher who was already one of the best in the game and even on track to possibily be a Hall of Famer. Leaves behind a pregnant girlfriend, and a thin Marlins team in a battle for a playoff spot.

Talk about a buzz killer. Dan Lebatard was basically in tears talking about it this morning. Great talent but sounds like he was a special kid as well.

a kid with a wonderful infectious personality and a joyous outlook on life. If you ever watched him pitch and respond to teammates in the dugout, you could just tell how he made all those around him feel better.

He missed two years of his career due to Tommy John surgery, but returned this spring and has compiled the kind of dominating stuff that marked him as one baseball's best pitchers. A two-time all-star, Fernandez at 24 is a Cuban native who three times tried to defect from the island nation and being jailed before arriving in Miami at 15. He was drafted out of high school by the Marlins. He was rookie of the year in the NL in 2013 and was practically unbetable at home. He was a great hitter, too, and no doubt the pitching foundation of the Marlins.

His body along with those of two others was discovered at about 3:30 am today by the Coast Guard after his 32-foot was discovered overturned on the jetties at the government cut off Miami beach.

Just terrible. Boating at night is basically like driving with your headlights out and scares the crap out of me. Doing at a speed high enough to flip a 30 ft boat is beyond comprehension IMO. So sad

Disagree completely.  Boating at night is like boating in the day: it's quite safe if you're being safe and you know what you're doing.  If you're screaming around at high speeds without lifejackets or an understanding of navigation lights or charts, which by all accounts so far is what happened, then no, it's not safe and that's what creates terrible accidents like this one.

There's an organization called the United States Power Squadron which has local chapters just about anywhere there's water.  They offer lots of seminars and courses on things like boating safety, navigation, boat handling, weather, etc.  They're the go-to people for learning just about anything a boater should know.  I highly recommend taking a look if you want to get into boating.

At least three people are reportedly dead after a boat crash off Miami Beach on Sunday morning.

Emergency workers are searching for more victims near Government Cut and South Pointe Park.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded to the crash of the 30-foot boat.

“They found a boat that was up against the jetties,” Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Todd Garofalo told WSVN. “They did do an initial search and they found three victims — two on top of the water, one underneath the boat and they had unfortunately passed away.”

Really a terrible accident. My son ran the Miami Marlins 5k this morning which was supposed to have all the runners go to the game afterwards. They found out just after the race about the accident and the game cancellation. Needless to say it was a shock.

Damn. Was looking forward to seeing him at every all star game for the rest of his career. I particularly enjoyed the "did you catch that?!" moment.

He seemed like a truly classy person. And now his child will never know him. Rest in peace sir.

Having lived in Miami for several years, I can tell you that people are having a tough time digesting this news. This kid was always a joy to watch, even when he wasn't pitching. What he went through in his personal life made him a fan favorite as well. This is just a terrible tragedy.

That's an absolutely embarrassing reaction to the tragic loss of a young man who truly loved what he did, and walked through hell to have the opportunity. I'm sorry that you have the inability to feel empathy
