OT-ish: Iowa Guard Bohannon out the rest of the season for hip surgery

This has been "rumored" for quite awhile around here, but Iowa's Jordan Bohannon will miss the remainder of the season after electing to have another hip surgery.  He's shutting it down in time to preserve a medical red-shirt for this season so he can try to come back next year for his last run.

Best of luck to the kid, he's been playing in pain for a couple of years now, similar to what Spike went through...

I hope the surgery goes well enough for him to get back on the court without pain.  Yeah, he plays for an opponent, but he's still a human being just trying to do his best.  Good luck to him.

I won't say this for all humans - some are just downright disgusting people.  Bohannon is not, so far as I can tell...

It's too bad - Bohannon is a deadly shooter. And he helps space the floor for Iowa's offense, opening up opportunities for Weiskamp and of course Garza. Garza might not be so effective now and Iowa's season trajectory looks much different now.

I live in Iowa and it's been well-known here that he was considering this. There is some speculation that he might not ever be able to play again which would be a bummer. He had such a good season so far this year that I was wondering if he would try to stick it out. Supposedly he wanted to play this season so he could play at Iowa State one more time - which he did on Saturday - and he torched them.

I hope he gets his health right for the rest of his life, regardless of ability to play D1 hoops again. It would be great to see him again play the game he loves at a high level.  It would be better to be able to walk pain free for the rest of your life.

As someone who's had the same surgery on just one hip, I feel for the dude

I had some pretty intense pain just from day to day high school kid life, can't imagine how painful it is playing the highest level of college basketball with that affliction, especially with the other hip having already undergone the surgery. Spike was incredible because he had both hips done before playing again. Long recovery time and lots of rehab, but should be able to play his final year out. I'll be rooting for him
