OT-ish: anyone else getting charged for the 247 free trial? UPDATE: NOW WITH MOAR HAPPY ENDING
I know many of us took advantage of the offer a while back when 247 was advertising a free trial for the remainder of the year.
Fast forward to now, and they've charged my credit card for a month of access. Anyone else have this experience?
UPDATE!
got a reply from support, while he says I signed up for the wrong thing (which I'm 99.9% sure I didn't...), he immediately offered a refund and to "change" my subscription so as to get the trial through the end of the year. good enough.
however, since they're claiming we all screwed up and it wasn't a bug, you should probably email support.
You get your free trail and when it's over, you start getting charged for a regular subscription unless you cancel.
the trial was for the remainder of 2013, and I got charged at the end of the first month.
I would contact them and see what the problem is.
I have. I posted this so that others could look for this, too.
If you signed up for an ANNUAL subscription, you got it free until the end of the year.
If you signed up for a MONTHLY subscription you got it free for a month.
I have a $9.95 charge from a few days ago but I also have the trial that goes till the end of 2013. Let me know what you find out, or I'll probably call about it sometime soon myself
same here. Free trial to end of 2013 and got charged beginning this month.
Holy hell i was on the verge of subscribing today
Sounds pretty clear that while they are advertising free 247 til the end of the year, their backend is operating on the usual "first month free". Simple email to their helpdesk should resolve it. Now what would suck is if everyone had to email them on their own; hopefully once they are alerted of the bug they fix it for eveyone, but I could see this as a way to make some moolah off of those who don't check their credit card statements carefully.
Would be awfully crappy of them because if they don't fix the "glitch", they'd basically be hoping that they can make some easy cash off people not checking their credit card/bank statements before paying
They'll fix it.
in an old thread. Wonder if they are getting started a little earlier?
I think they changed the free trial date to August 31, 2013 now.
"The goal, the expectation of this program is the Big Ten Championship"
The 247Sports site confirms the free trial period here (LINK)
If you were to sign up now, the free trial is advertised as running until the end of August, but on that selection, the paid portion is at a rate of a dollar less than what people here are saying they were charged, from the look of it.
I just checked my bank statements for the previous couple months and I did not see any charges from 247. I did the same free trial that you guys did. I clicked on the "plans" tab and it says next renewal is 1/1/2014. I do not really check the site as much as I thought I would, so I am probably just going to cancel my subscription just to be safe. Thanks for the heads up.
Look at how the payment boxes are set up.
If you want the extended free trial, you have to sign up for one yearly billing. If you sign up for monthly billing, as those of you who are saying you were billed for $9.95 did, you signed up for a one month free trial.
Sneaky bastards...
I believe you had to go through the yearly billing to get the "til the first of the year" deal. I know I tried going the monthly, but it wouldn't accept it and had to go the yearly route.
Skeezy move 247
It was pretty clear when signing up. I don't see anything skeezy about it.
It seems like a bunch of the new 'subscribers' they got in here somehow made the exact same mistake. I don't quite buy that. I'm really meticulous when not spending money that my wife won't find out about.
but I'd say 247 set me up to fail a bit. I thought I had read it over well when signing up but I guess I screwed it up even though I clicked the year-long trial whenever I could (or so I thought). I'm sure most of us will get it sorted out. If not, I guess 247 can keep my $9.95 and I'll just cancel now instead of in December
provided there is actually funny business. I've successfully denied charges through both Visa and Mastercard.
I signed up too for the free trial
Can I see if I got charged in the website ?
It's saying : "
-
Wolverine247
- Annual
- Renewal date: 1/1/2014" on Plans
But what about my nine-ninety-fi?
but pretty much everyone in this topic signed up for "Totally free till 2014 [and definitely not trying to trick you into paying us money]" offer from 247 and we're all finding that we've been charged by 247 anyway
Not all of us - I haven't been billed, and my account still shows a free trial until 1/1/2014.
I don't see why people pay for regular season NFL tickets.
The only thing that matters is the Super Bowl.
Seriously, why is it so important to know two days ahead before everyone that a recruit is visiting? It's so dumb to pay these companies. My point still stands: signing day is all that matters, not knowing if a kid is gonna visit.
Hmmm, let's try this on for size:
Seriously, why is it so important to know months before the season that Dymonte Thomas has locked down the nickleback role? My point still stands: gameday is all that matters, not knowing if a kid is going to start.
Boy, if we only cared about the bottom line, MGoBlog would be an awfully boring place. "Yay we won!" and "Crap, we lost!" would be the only content you'd ever see here. I normally don't obsess over recruiting, but there are some people that do, and I have no good reason to tell them not to. Let's take it easy in the whole "shitting on other peoples' fanhood" department.
Because some people find it interesting to know all the details? Just from my free trial at 247, there's a lot of stuff in there that isn't here. Given, any major news gets out, but there's a lot of interesting updates that you don't necessarily get on MGoBlog.
Yep, Gordie is right. Those of us who are on 24/7 knew all about Artavis Scott committing to Clemson well in advance. I was surprised when I saw the shock over here until I remembered that it was 24/7 where I had read the "inside" scoop. Then I was surprised that said info had NOT made its way over to MGo.
Btw, I signed up for the "Free until the end of the year trial" and I have NOT been billed for anything...yet.
Signing day isn't all that matters, though. Why do newspapers report about spring practices? Why do we get/want injury updates throughout the week? Spring practice doesn't matter. An injury on Wednesday doesn't matter. The games matter. The bowl games matter.
The fact is that you just don't care about the recruiting process, and there's nothing wrong with that. That doesn't mean other people are suckers for caring about it.
I emailed them, he said he'd make an exception in this case and that I'd somehow done the monthly trial (I didn't? I did the same as everyone else here). I asked him about a refund of my $9.95, he's yet to respond. I'm a bit put off. I know it's ten bucks, but the principle of the thing.
I noticed when I signed up that the boxes were a little bit misleading. I almost clicked on the monthly billing one because if I decide to keep my subscription, I want to be charged monthly. But then I realized that I would get screwed.
So...yeah...I think 247 duped some of you. It is a little shady on their part to set it up that way, but I don't think there's anything illegal about it or anything.
Agreed. I know people are frustrated about what happened to them but they clearly just signed up for the wrong billing plan: in order to get the free trial untl the end of the year you had to agree to the annual payment plan. It was a little confusing but I managed to sign up for the right plan and I didn't even graduate from the University of Michigan.
I looked closely--I signed up and have not been charged. However, I am going to cancel now. I do not want to do business with a company like this. The information they provide isn't all that great, and it's infrequent compared to this site. Thank you
Did anyone start a similar thread on 24/7? That might be interesting to read.
You should test your free trial signup skills and start one yourself.
I suppose I would have asked myself, if it's free why do they want my credit card?
