OT: Hugh Freeze is Salty

Submitted by Blueblood2991 on

To add to an already great day for Michigan of swiping recruits out of SEC territory, Hugh Freeze decided to add the cherry on top.

While Michigan spent the day celebrating its new additions with the SOS ceremony, Freeze decided to take a shit all over his as soon as they signed their LOI. He took today to complain about negative recruiting. Turns out it's hard to recruit with cash with the NCAA watching you. I feel terrible for their commits though.

"This recruiting class: It was a penalty,"
"It was ugly. I didn't enjoy it,"

He looked like death on ESPNU earlier today. Deff did not enjoy this recruiting cycle without the boosters paying for everything it seems. Tough.

I will say this... One of my best friends played for him in Memphis while not getting any financial help to do so. He still speaks very highly of his dedication to each of his players and his willingness to do whatever necessary (no $ involved) to help his guys through anything. I know as well as anyone that players were payed at Ole Miss, but that's not the only reason they were drawn to him. He had pretty good results and it didn't take several years for the non 5 star players to develop.

I am sure he meant trying to recruit under those circumstances was ugly.

But, when you just look at the quote straight up, boy, is he going to have a good time talking to recruits parents.

But the point has been made that it isn't the NCAA breathing down their necks, it's just where Ole Miss would normally be at if they hadn't been paying their students the last 3 years. They are a school without a history of football or academic excellence in a shitty state going against the best recruiting teams in the country. They have just returned to the normal recruiting abilities a school like Ole Miss should have. The penalties could take them significantly lower than this.

had to actually go out and recruit without the aid of piles of money. Probably surprised that 4 and 5* guys aren't dying to go to Oxford and be 8-4 every year without the extra incentives

Freeze has been at Ole Miss for 5 years and it's been a big disappointment.

Remember that part in the Bagmen article where he said that when coaches fall out of favor they stop paying? This is the punishment for losing.

Pretty sure this is his way of getting in front of the NCAA. "Look at our recruiting class! We've already been punished. You don't need to do any more, NCAA."

Jesus. If I'm one of the players who committed to him, what the hell makes me want to play for him now?

Ole Miss' regression to the mean this year makes them look like the last few years were just a flash in the pan. If they have another bad year next year, they could go right back to being the same Ole Miss they were before he showed up: a football graveyard that only has Archie and Eli Manning to cling to.

I would like to think that Hugh Freeze feels that the effort spent on recruiting takes valuable time away from his family and by "penalty", it meant that he put in unwanted hours which meant less time to enjoy mowing the lawn and cleaning up that one spot in the family room where the dog goes when everyone is too busy playing "Candy Crush".
