OT: Golden State Killer suspect arrested in California
Suspect arrested in the East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer case. GSK committed twelve murders and 50 rapes in the 1970s and 80s throughout the state of California and is the subject of the book I'll Be Gone In The Dark.

Well him being an ex-cop certainly explains how he got away with it for so long...
Hopefully the victims' families find some peace now.
I was gifted I'll Be Gone in the Dark and was planning on starting it this weeked. If Michelle McNamara had any little bit to do with catching this guy I hope she gets the recognition that she is due.
My hunch, based off of nothing, is that she likely played a huge role in the capture and arrest of this suspect.
Patton Oswald said that tge book absolutely helped in the case, but he does not expect the police to acknowledge it.
Did her ex-husband have her killed?

but I think I read she basically died of accidental overdose due to mixing sleeping and anxiety meds

Died of a heart condition that was triggered by the medication she was taking.
when they find the zodiac killer.
He is a senator from Texas
I kid, I kid
Ross Sullivan
He had to have been a suspect already if they were DNA testing his garbage. I really wonder what made him a prime suspect this many years later.
I know they’ve been doing a series on the GSK on HLN lately. Maybe that lit a fire under investigators again to follow up on new leads.
which can do more with less, so to speak. I had a case like this back in the early '90's where we knew who are target was, but we were waiting on the DNA testing method to be able to reconstruct from skin cells, IIRC.
and for total numbers, look up the randy kraft case - 64 murders/mutiliations, including two in GR. we caught him in socal and prosecuted him for his murders there. horrible, gory stuff. i believe he and manson and david brown were all housed in the same unit, at least for a while. quite a trio, those 3.
...a family member read the book, had some suspicions and provided info and family dna to the popo.

Something got them on the trail. Family suspicion seems possible. They'll probably elaborate at a later time.
Favorite National Park? Golden State Killer arrested? Only on MGoBlog...but one of the reasons I like it.
Patton Oswalt is a very proud man today.
I can only imagine how he feels.
For those that don't know his late wife had a healthy obsession with this case.
Yeah, he really loved her. Waited a whole year to get married again.
Everyone grieves in their own way
This is a bonkers story. It will make one hell of a documentary.
I bet Netflix will have season 1 of East Bay Killer out next Tuesday. Lol
Mindhunter is already top notch
My initial response was 'no politics!' but then I realized that I was thinking of the wrong NorCal serial killer
Unbelievable. DNA got him. The guy was absolutely crazy. Cannot believe that he got away with it so long. Did not have a dad growing up.

is taken off the street (or planet) - even if its 40 years after the crimes
hope this helps the victims and their families find some peace

Being a police officer probably allowed him to slip in and out of situations without suspicion.
Hope they find the Zodiac next....

What a monster. Glad they got the guy, as it appears.
Judgment is coming.
Several witnesses described the penis of their attacker as being quite small. This might be best exemplified by a victim’s hymen remaining intact though she had been raped multiple times,
Joking about women's private parts after being raped is never funny.

But yeah, your snowflake mind couldn't make that simple leap. On the contrary, you go straight to a strawman. Get your mind out of the gutter, stop projecting.

You idiot, it wasn't a joke
your post.
I was a CAL student from 78-82 and most of my fraternity hailed from Sacto. This case was huge then and the threat was always something that their parents constantly reminded us all of.
Fact that he was a cop explains a lot about how the investigation went sideways for so long...maybe!
well, we all knew it wasn't Lebron.....
I respectfully disagree. 2016 LeBron didn't care about the record-setting Warriors. 2016 LeBron lead the first and only 3-1 comback in Finals history. 2016 LeBron was the Golden State killer.
Well, GS beat the lebron and the cavs in '15 and '17. 1 out of 3 ain't bad, but .333 is a better batting average than winning percentage.
2015 LeBron had no Love or Irving to support him. 2017 LeBron had to fight an overly stacked Warriors team that more or less is/was a team of All-Stars. Numbers only tell half the story.

whatever...... he beat them once out of three tries, he's no GS killer.
