OT: Game 4---Baltimore Orioles @ Detroit Tigers

Submitted by rob f on

While most of us have been thinking Spring Football today, the undefeated Tigers have been doing their thing this afternoon in Detroit.  As I type this, the game is going into the top of the 9th, with a 7-1 lead for the Tigers.  Brad Ausmus looks to be bringing in Phil Coke for the 9th in a non-save situation.    Rick Porcello started and was outstanding in his first start of the new season, giving up 1 run on just 3 hits over 6 2/3 innings.  Don Kelly leads the Tigers today with a 3-for-4 day, including a triple.  Torii Hunter has added a homer and double to the offensive mix in a 13-hit Tiger attack.

Right now, it's still 7-2, one down in the 9th for the O's after a single and triple plate a run.

If the Tigers lose a game or two this season, it's likely gonna be due to the bullpen...

7-1 lead and now we're brining in the closer.  Of course, if it were Papa G, we'd be pretty confident that at least a couple runs would come in.

have gotten their try-outs over these 2 games vs. the O's.  Neither has been effective.

Coke got pulled after 1/3 of an inning after giving up 2 runs and a walk.  Alburquerque followed by inducing a pop-up that should have been caught for the 2nd out but instead dropped in for a blooper.

Ausmus has been forced to bring in Joe Nathan for the final outs...I hope!

Still a 4-run lead, 7-3.

And, you're right---Porcello was definitely "on" today.

Though both Verlander and MadMax looked shaky in the first inning of each of their starts, they both quickly found the groove and looked strong.  In yesterday's game, Sanchez was far from his best, but that was some gawd-awful weather to pitch in.  Smily (who will usually be a starter this season) came in early to bail Sanchez out and pitched well in long relief to get the win.

And then today, Rick Porcello looked great.  As long as the starters do their jobs, this should be a strong Tiger team.   Don't want to look, though, when the bullpen comes in.

And that's a win, seriously though Phil Coke probably doesn't deserve a roster spot over Casey Crosby or even Blaine Hardy. He's just lost it, plain and simple.

After the 8th I took a quick bike ride to the library, thinking the game was over.  Jeez, not what I expected to see as the final.

Still, 4-0 with JV on the mound tomorrow.  Every team has its weaknesses, but it's good to see wins despite those weaknesses.

More like I wanted to check out all the hippies walking around downtown AA for hash bash.

I had to turn in season 2 of Mad Men and pick up season 3.  The Ann Arbor District Library is one of Ann Arbor's little known secrets.  I haven't bought or rented a DVD or BluRay in years other than a couple rare exceptions.

Couple that with the traffic from hash bash and the Spring "game" and the general niceness of Spring, biking was a no-brainer.

Probably a little better than mine so far.

My bet today was the Tigers -1.5.  FML...and F the Tigers' bullpen.  Appears to be the same crap different season.  How much longer can Phil Coke hang onto a pitching job in the majors?

So...I set the DVR to record the spring game.  Got home at 5pm and clicked over to 'my dvr'.  Had a show waiting called 'college footall'.  Hit play.  2.5 hours of Tigers - Orioles.  Scrolled through it at top speed, the whole time the blue line about the progress bar read 'college football'.

BTN is replaying the spring game at 8pm tonight, so no big deal.  Anyone else ever had a dvr either record the wrong channel or mislabel a recording you screwed up by labelling it what you had intended to record?

I know...F*&^ comcast.

Too early in the season to have your panties in s bunch considering the Tigers are 4-0 but at first glance...Phil Coke's leash is project just about gone. Nathan's been shaky but he'll be given opportunities. starting pitching looking solid and good contributions offensively from everyone across the board not named Alex Avila. Gonzalez glove at ss looks shaky. Go Tigers!

Why did the Tigers even re-sign Coke? He gets murdered by right handers and now he can't even get lefties out.  What useful purpose does he serve?
