OT: Friday afternoon/night drinking thread.

Submitted by drjaws on

This being my first MGoBlog thread, and being I'm very good at drinking, I thought I'd make a drinking thread.

First off, a "neat story bro."  I was in grad school at Berkely and was walking down Haight (yes, that Haight in San Fran) with my wife.  Of course I was maize and blue head to toe.  A woman in her 50's-60's in an easily $3000 suit was walking towards me.  As soon as she saw me she stopped and yelled "GO BLUE!  BEAT THOSE BUCKS!" then high fived me and went on her way.  Anyhoo.

I worked until 9pm last night so I got off work at noon and started the day with a Short's Soft Parade.  I know it is out of season but damn it tates good with lunch (Erbelli's pizza).  Since I got home I have been imbibing Bell's HopSlam with some Old Speckled Hen tossed in there.  Chasing my beer with Grey Goose (always stored freezer) and room temp. Crown Royal.

What're you drinking tonight?  I need some ideas to add to my arsenal.

I used to say Moose Drool was my favorite beer, but I haven't had it since I worked in North Dakota in '04 so I'm not sure anymore. Good choice.

I went to the bottle shop and unknowingly got two brews from Brooklyn - Sixpoint Resin and Evil Twin Hop Flood. A few sips into the first Resin and I'm starting to think the names should be reversed.

Getting my head start at the office with some glenmorangie 10.

When I get home I'll probably go for my Springbank 15, and maybe some GlenDronach 12. Might throw some Islay action in there as well for a nightcap.

I'm having some Johnny Walker Double Black, whilst my fiancé will either be having Lindemann's Framboise or some Riesling. Hoping to have friends over and play some Cards Against Humanity.

Had a New Glarus Moon Man.  Amongst the best beers I've ever had.

To respond to the OP.... I'm more of a beer guy .. + Red wine with meals, a good bloody mary, a G and T on a hot summer day, and Cook's Magazine's remarkable margarita.  All that said, the GF likes fancy cocktails.  Try this, a "Sherlock and Watson"  ...

Make 1 cup of very strong tea and dissolve 4 tablespoons of honey in it - refridgerate. Then take two oz decent blended scotch add 1 oz tea mix, dash cardomom bitters (yeah it's complicated), and 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice.  Shake hard with ice in a cocktail mixer and pour.

This thing is delicious and I'm having one tonight.

Since I'm sitting at a buffet style restaurant (hate buffets) with just me and my 6 n 4 yr old girls I will be consuming all of the alcohol when we get home.

Probably start with either a Long Island ice tea or tequila sunrise. Then will have a 3-2-1 margarita while watching the hockey game later. Have to work at 4am. Poop.

Ordered a shot of Amaretto. Damned server put the drink down in from of my 1.5 year old daughter. In about 0.3 seconds, she chugged it. Acorn don't fall far. She slept well that night.

Fun side note. Server = my wife. Bad mommy.

I just finished my first one a short while ago, just before going online here.

Founders Black Rye

I enjoyed it with a few slices of Palermo's Pepperoni Pizza, one of the better frozen pizzas around.   This Black Ale, though, was just tremendous, with great amount of hops bitterness well-balanced with some roasted malts and subtle sweetness.

But now, a tough choice: a 2nd Founders Black Rye , or should I instead go to one of these,Hopslam Ale: Can't touch this. (Photo by Bell's Brewery)

which have been chillin' since my purchase yesterday.

In one hour, I'll start my Michigan hockey happy hour.  Probably something from New Glarus Brewing.   Then a fish fry.   Then a walk to the Kohl Center.  Then a victory march home.
