I don't think I have ever watched a March Madness game that Gus did that did not come down to the final seconds. I love his excitement, but it gives me anxiety.
Go Lions

I can hear it now..."Calvin Johnson with the CAAAAAAAATCH!"

You know it is bad when Wolverine fans are looking to the Lions game to cheer up.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:50 PM ^
I was sadly happy last weekend when I realized my only bright spot (of the football weekend) was the Lions victory. And even then the Lions got the short end, as everybody talked not about the Lions winning, but about Shanahan's decision to pull McNabb. Poor Lions. Also, poor me.

Gus is perfect for the red zone channel. Small doses.

Gus is a Jabroni, no way around it. He makes it look good.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:00 PM ^
I keep hearing you use that word 'jabroni,' and I have to say...it's awesome!
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:20 PM ^
Yeah, it's "awesome" when used correctly. It is pro wrestling slang for one who is a professional "jobber:" one who loses every night or, as it is called, "does the job." Unless it has somehow been subverted and used in a positive sense, it isn't being used correctly here. I'm sorta surprised the guy with the Shawn Micheals avatar wasn't all over this.
It was given to the public by "The Rock" during the "attitude era," when wrestlers were seeing how much they could get away with "breaking kayfabe" to amuse the "smarks."
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:26 PM ^
It was recently seen in a positive light with the reintroduction to word in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. But yes, the Rock used it well back in the day.
The comment above was a line from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I can tell from your knowledge of the vernacular your are a fellow "smart mark" or "smark," as you correctly put it.
Additionally, Jabroni has been around for a LONG time in pro wrestling. Rock just brought it to the mainstream and then IASIP brought it back out from PW universe a few weeks back.
It is a great word regardless. My friends and I find it hilarious to use that and jobber in everyday conversation.

People actually like Gus Johnson? Seriously?

November 3rd, 2010 at 4:35 PM ^
I hate when people say he's annoying.
It's not that Gus Johnson is annoying, but rather that he is openly biased during broadcasts of certain teams' games, which makes his broadcasts of those games extremely unbearable to watch. If you're not a fan of one of those teams (the Lions are not one of those teams), I wouldn't expect you to know what I'm talking about, which likely explains why you hate when people says he's annoying (i.e. you don't have the proper perspective of where they are coming from).
You probably like Pam Ward
Pam Ward doesn't even like Pam Ward.

That guy never broadcasts a Detroit team, whether it's the Pistons or Lions with any type of professionalism. The Giants game was unbearable. Every mistake = This is why the Lions suck.
Plus, I don't know if you're trying to say that Gus isn't a Lions fan, but he is. There was an article in the Freep from 2006 where he talked about growing up in Detroit and being a Lions fan.

I hope this means you don't like Dick StocktonThat guy never broadcasts a Detroit team, whether it's the Pistons or Lions with any type of professionalism.
Actually, this gets at my point to the other guy perfectly. I don't follow Detroit teams, so I have no idea what you are talking about, but I understand what you are saying.
Plus, I don't know if you're trying to say that Gus isn't a Lions fan, but he is.
No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that he isn't a fan of the team I cheer for.

as he tries to bring the energy level of the live stadium experience to the masses. It's not golf after all.

makes it even better. If the Lions can continue to win, the blackout would be less frequent. Just win baby.

Gus Johnson is acceptable. Did they put him in the Buffalo Wild Wings commercial with the sprinklers?
