OT: ESPN Ticker Just Said Houston Has Contacted Miles and LANE KIFFIN
OK, Miles I can see. I mean, he's a little long in the tooth, and he got pretty stale at LSU, but I can see it as a "decent hire" at least...
But - and this is a serious question - who in the actual fuck would hire Lane Kiffin to be their head coach? The guy is a proven loser, a scumbag, and an all around a-hole. And before anyone says, "but look how good Alabama's offense has been with Kiffin," just stop it. Saban has had 4 different OC's in his tenure at Alabama, and the offense hasn't missed a beat...

Where exactly is that?

I would imagine for Purdue and Indiana that would be Illinois and Ohio, especially Chicago and Cincinnati, though they have a lot of higher-profile competition, obviously.

given that he will get better job offers than Purdue.

Schiano is on the same level of assholeness as Kiffin.

Les Miles turned down Purdue according to the Purdue blogs I follow. Les wanted to hire his own assistants, but Purdue's AD said that was not in the cards.

Huh? The Purdue AD wouldn't let him hire his own assistants?
I guess that would explain the current state of PU football.

Gosh this is the best sport.

I guess I get Miles because of the recruiting ties, even if he is in his early 60s and there would be a clear understanding that his tenure would be quite finite as a result perhaps. That might not be a bad stopgap hire, I would think.
I guess Lane Kiffin is one of those names that will always come up, and I am sure a team will take a flyer on the man again at some point, and he's a good OC, but you would think that - at least right now - he's a less than compelling name for an HC position.

He lost it the moment he leaves the state of Louisiana. Louisiana athletes are pretty much locks to go to LSU or elite southern schools.

By I mean, he does have one valuable asset-- his wife.

He's done a great job at Alabama and it seems like he's matured a little bit.

he's 41. He's younger than the likes of Pat Fitzgerald, Scott Frost, and Matt Rhule. Only a few months older than either Tom Herman or Kirby Smart. Those 5 are all considered young guns who have done well in the coaching game.
If I'm Houston, it's a reasonable risk to pursue Kiffin.

Say what you want about Kiffin, but he's done an excellent job as OC at Alabama.

If this is true, it really is an interesting thing Saban seems to be doing - taking failed coaches and putting them on his staff and "rehabilitating" them. I don't think this is a bad thing - quite the opposite, it kind of makes me like Saban - but it is an interesting approach.

Miles will do well anywhere he goes. He is 64 or whatever, but is more like 45 with his energy and enthusiasm. He is a good recruiter too.

They should back up the Brinks truck and get Kyle Wittingham. He is the right guy for that program.
