OT: ESPN OTL - Ann Arbor Youth Hockey Embezzlement
I caught the tail end of this on Sunday morning and was able to watch it in its entirety tonight. Nice job on the story ESPN.
From AnnArbor.com:
"Knight, of Chelsea, pleaded guilty in June to stealing more than $934,000 from AAAHA while severing as its bookkeeper for several years. She was sentenced to one year in jail, but the sentence was deferred for one year while she continues to make payments toward the roughly $700,000 she was ordered to pay in restitution."
Grrrrrr, this type of thing just really chaps my ass. IMHO this Knight woman is getting off pretty damn easy, especially since they'll most likely never see that money again.

When her mugshot kept appearing on the screen, I almost punched my computer to pieces.

yet... don't know when I will. I spent 12 years of my life, from age 7, playing in AAAHA... mini-mite to midget. My parents used a good portion of their single income to put my brother and I through that league... it wasn't cheap... we didn't go on big vacations... didn't drive fancy cars... A portion of the money they paid each year was put into a fund so one day the league could build their own ice rink and help make the sport I love available to more kids.
Then this f*cking c*nt came in and ripped off my parents (and thousands others) hard earned money so that she could live like a f*cking rock star. And what does she get as punishment? A f*cking slap on the wrist. Conan, in his final statement the other night, urged the youth who were watching not to be cynical... how can you not be when this type of sh!t goes down on a daily basis?

Yep... that's it... I think Bruce Madej's son was on that team with us as well.

Not just because the crime was detestable -- it was -- but also because I'm from Chelsea, and it really irks me to see my town associated with somebody who'd steal from a youth sports organization.

Why, exactly, does she not have to pay back the entire sum plus interest? What's wrong with the criminal justice system? Meanwhile, in the civil courts, people have to pay millions to gigantic multibillion-dollar corporations for sharing a few songs online. There is no justice for the vulnerable.
And listen to that slimy ass lawyer talking out of his fucking ass. "Justice" system. Ha.

is that some talented kids won't be able to play because they can't afford it. The AAAHA offered 11 scholarships, and now they can't offer any.
And what the hell would possess her to think she deserved that money? It is tough to wrap your head around how people think sometimes.

Greed and opportunity. I mean she didn't get caught for years. No one knew and still probably wouldn't have known till this day if she didn't slip up with those checks bouncing.

worst part about the interview was the lawyer for the defendent, he says "it was both parties faults because they allowed her to have access to the money, and with no rules or procedures she didn't have a chance to say no". AKA it was to tempting.....are you kidding me, those people are what's wrong with our society today.
As he exits in his $100,000 vehicle!!
