OT: ESPN 3
trying out the Beta for ESPN3.com; watching the Red Sox vs Yankees game.
I have to say, this is a pretty damn good online content delivery platform; auto stream bandwidth adjustment, picture in picture, multiple live events...Very impressive.
Check it out.
+1 for pointing this out...
You're right, it was pretty cool.
This is very good, I love the PiP format. I normally have only bad things to say about ESPN, but well done Bristol, well done.
The computer engineering side of me is still mystified at how stuff like that works. Someday maybe I'll understand.
Very cool stuff!
It is not that difficult to set individual pixels to whatever the hell you want.
The only challenge is having enough number-crunching power to interlace two different feeds into one for the video card.
It seems to be exactly the same besides the name change.
Samesies... I was about to post the same thing. I do think the new name makes more sense along the line of ESPN versions in order from 1 to 3, but there is absolutely no other difference from 360 is there? Why are people raving over the site when it isn't new? I do like the site, however, and I watch sporting events on it on occasion. Pretty impressive.
I think the only changes, and I haven't used 360 in a while to know if they're even changes, are the Picture in Picture/Mosaic modes and the adjustable bandwidth option.
4 games at once...SPORTS COMA...how can they expect me to manage to study for finals in a few weeks with this
At least its the spring semester and not the fall.
How can they expect to me focus on my work to feed my family with this?
They used the Move Media Play before and now they are using straight Flash. They probably tried to keep the same format, but it is beta because the backend has changed significantly.
5 point game in the second half with 15:47 to go, 36-41. This isn't bad...
We're really only one channel away if you count ESPNU, ESPNews, ESPN Classic, ESPN Deportes, and we've zoomed past it if you also count the pay-per-views.
Will this ESPN Ocho feature all my favorites from "Obscure Sports Quarterly"?
I hope so! I'm really missing my National Hopscotch League. I hear that the team from Harlem can Fuck.Shit.Up!
My asian history lecture tomorrow just got so much more tolerable
I haven't tried it yet, but I've used 360 before, and it's been good enough when I've needed it.
I don't understand why they changed the name, though. Won't it get confusing when they come out with ESPN3D this summer?
Streaming quality is really good if you've got the bandwidth. Better than 360, I think. That or I've been suckered by the old placebo effect...which is entirely possible.
Ive been using 360 for a while now and tried the ESPN3 today. There were differences but I didnt notice anything that put me in just awe. My main goal is to watch a game in good quality which is accomplished. All the other bells and whistles are nice and all but I rarely use them.
I just hope they continue to have tons of baseball games all season and not just for opening week. I was thinking of gettin MLb.TV but if ESPN3 does the job I could save $20 a month. Im a young hustler livin in Chicago and I'd appreciate watching more Tigers games instead of this Cubs/White Sox junk. Hawk is so annoying.
Anyone else watching Hawthorn vs. Geelong Cats? God knows I am staying up for this.
Does it only play things live? Or can you watch something after it happens?
It has some older events, but it is pretty limited.
Bookmarked it. Rugby is on as of now I and I can't believe my eyes. It is my new favorite sport.
European Hockey, interesting
Now that it's all in Flash, I can watch it in Linux while I'm working on my CS projects, nice..
Not on an ipad.
