OT: Election Destresser

Submitted by joegeo on November 3rd, 2020 at 10:46 AM

For those feeling extra stress today, I found this to be an amazing way to spend 10 minutes. I was smiling at the end. Election Distractor.

Notes:

-It's various videos and notes that are some sort of zen/nice/funny

-It's nytimes, but you shouldn't need a subscription

-It starts by asking if you're 18. It's not because there's nsfw in it; if you say you're and haven't voted, it tells you how to vote.

Idk what this has to do with the OP, but this morning I saw a dude in a big jacked-up F-250 with an enormous USA flag in the middle of two other equally enormous Trump flags flying off the back of the tailgate area (I'll give you 3 guesses what state I live in, 99% sure it'll be one of the first 3 that come to mind). In some way it was entertaining and somehow lightened my mood.

Oh yeah!  They are everywhere down here.  There was a big Trump rally the other day at a Mall parking lot and it was mostly big 4 wheel drive trucks with the big ol' flags a flyin'.  Thousands of people with red on their necks if you know what I mean.  Then across the street there was one old lady holding a Biden sign.  Bravest lady ever!

My de-stresser is watching the Wire all day.

On paternity leave now for the next couple of months and I’ve never seen the show, so this is as good a time as any. And I can sure as hell use the distraction.

I go back to full-time next week (took a bit off full-time, and some half-time since my daughter's birth). The Wire is great, though the pacing of any show loses a little something when you're getting up to change diapers frequently; my wife's in charge of input, I'm in charge of output, and the baby does not like even short periods of a dirty diaper. Mazel Tov on the addition!

Or you can watch the Hunger Games marathon on some cable channel and contemplate our dystopian future because, clearly, whichever candidate you support, many people are convinced that the other candidate is sure to produce such a future,

1. Yoga (done)

2. Rakes leaves this afternoon (it's a beautiful day in Michigan)

3. Long hike with my dog in a beautiful state park nearby

4. Tell myself that although I really dislike both candidates, I have a ton of things to be thankful for

The de-stressor I am leaning on is this likely won’t be decided by the time I wake up tomorrow morning, so there’s no sense worrying about today.

I voted a few weeks ago absentee due to my work schedule at my local township clerk's office.  Really not stressed about this election I don't pay much attention to politics...I didn't used to be this way but one of the great benefits of getting older is that that life gets more peaceful from learning perspective.

" you say you're and haven't voted, it tells you how to vote."

LOL yeah, because we all need the New York Times to tell us how to vote.  That'll be neutral and non-partisan, I'm sure...

I honestly can't tell if you're joking, or if you really didn't know that they meant 'how to vote' as in the actual, physical act of going and voting (for whomever you want to vote for).

The internet is a tricky place to traverse sometimes. Now you have me wondering if there's a way to instruct somebody on the physical act of voting that could affect who they cast their vote for.

My wife and I took a half day to go for a long walk in a park and got a drink after. Helped buy some time before anxiety takes the wheel.

Getting out of the office at 5, driving 1 hour and 45 minutes to my polling location.... I'm certain to hit the 'after work' voting rush and i'll be there for some time, i'm sure.   Polls in PA are supposed to close at 8, but they won't close if there are voters in line (at least they haven't in the past)

its our civic duty, participate!

Who else has been live-betting the election odds? Some very simple and large opportunities to take advantage of these last few hours. Ended of being arbitrage and guaranteed profit bracket plays due to the swings on the books.
