OT: "Don't Look Up" on Netflix
No spoilers, and I apologize if this isn't thread-worthy, but I nearly died when this exchange happened:
Jonah Hill's Character: "I'm sorry, did you say Michigan State?"
Dr. Oglethorpe: "Exactly. They have an excellent astronomy department."
Jonah Hill's Character: "Come on, bro."

....as well as Pizza Delivery Department...

Then later on in the movie, with her PHD...and working at a grocery store...and later that night when she starts up with Timothy Chalamet she's sitting outside a bonfire with a bunch of skaters chugging beers talking shit. Very on-brand for MSU.

She was in Illinois then

Timely…I just started watching it.
Dang is Jennifer Lawrence a beauty.
Edit: Ok the MSU clip is hilarious and needs to become a gif.

I do not understand the infatuation people have with Jennifer Lawrence. I’m not saying she’s ugly but she’s pretty average for Hollywood standards.
December 27th, 2021 at 10:06 PM ^
She’s not bad on the eyes, but her personality annoyed me when she first got big. Attention seemed to follow her - in a forced manner. I tend to avoid films with her now.
The actress who I genuinely don’t find attractive - even before I found out she’s a bit out there - is Shailene Woodley (Aaron Rodger’s girl.) I just finished the 1st season of Big Little Lies though and she can certainly act.

She is quite attractive but no Hollywood beauty. Would look amazing on the arm of just about 99.9% of the losers posting here. Your writer most definitely included.
All that aside, the woman can act. She was amazing in Winters Bone. And she has comic chops as well. See American Hustle.

She won best supporting actor for her role in David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook, and she stole the movie with her performance in it, especially her makeup scene with Bradley Cooper at the end of the film, one of my favorites.
Jennifer is a very down to earth person and character on film, which makes her the perfect foil in her role in Don't Look Up as an MSU phd astronomy student. She takes no shit and knows how to deliver a line in character and off-screen. Very sexy woman.
I thoroughly enjoyed this dark parody comedy. The film combines a lot of bows to other apocalyptic dramas including Dr Strangelove and Network.

she was great in the fappening
December 28th, 2021 at 1:40 AM ^
You mean when hackers stole her personal intimate photos and spread them all over the internet without her (or any of the other victims’) consent?
Grow the fuck up
December 28th, 2021 at 6:46 AM ^
She even had a line in the movie mocking Meryl Streep’s character for doing the same thing. Calm the fuck down you big baby.
December 28th, 2021 at 9:06 AM ^
"Ohhhhhhh, I just adore these opportunities to show off my self-righteous side!"
December 27th, 2021 at 10:36 PM ^
I live in LA and have seen her several times in person…not sure where you live but she is FAR above average.
December 27th, 2021 at 10:59 PM ^
Saw her *once* in person, too, and it took my friend telling who she was to have any sort of reaction… she was nothing to write home about.
But I’m sure it helps when you’ve successfully got the Weinstein “boost”…
December 27th, 2021 at 11:31 PM ^
Yeah, no.
December 27th, 2021 at 10:42 PM ^
And that's why she's cast to play normal, relatable female characters, not hyper-sexualized bombshells. And that's what makes her appeal to a lot of people.
December 27th, 2021 at 11:02 PM ^
She is not your typical Hollywood glam girl. She has that natural girl next door quality.
December 27th, 2021 at 11:13 PM ^
This whole thread is cringe
December 27th, 2021 at 11:31 PM ^
100% agree. "RCMB" worthy.
December 27th, 2021 at 11:31 PM ^
When the fappening post referenced above happens to be the most profound if not discerning, well, you've got yourself a good old fashioned man-thread!
December 28th, 2021 at 12:24 AM ^
I feel like I've wandered into a high school shop class. Knucklehead misogyny abounds...

Avatar checks out
December 28th, 2021 at 9:29 AM ^
Yeah, and the time that she was cast as a highly sexualized character (Red Sparrow) was a critical and financial disappointment.
December 28th, 2021 at 9:47 AM ^
holy shit what great fucking books though.
December 27th, 2021 at 11:26 PM ^
It has long been rumored that Jennifer Lawrence's success can be traced to . . .
December 28th, 2021 at 6:46 AM ^
I found out how to look just like Jennifer Lawrence with this one cool trick
December 28th, 2021 at 9:13 AM ^
A certain kinda guy really loves to report that this or that bazillionty-dollar makin' actress or singer really isn't all that. Dads, be a better example to your children! :)
December 28th, 2021 at 9:20 AM ^
I agree...she just seems average. But in reality a lot of celebrities, male and female, if you walked past them in the mall, and they weren't famous or dolled up, wouldn't make you turn your head twice.
December 28th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
Not true. I walked by Meatloaf one time at some event and whew boy. That is one nice piece. Give a dog a bone. Amirite fellas?
Sorry if we are going to cringe out im taking it to the next level.
December 28th, 2021 at 3:47 PM ^
+1. Meat Loaf puts the beef back in beefcake.
December 29th, 2021 at 4:04 AM ^
This guy gets it.
December 27th, 2021 at 9:48 PM ^
I heard it's more of a documentary than satire. Too bad I don't have Netflix or I'd check it out.
December 27th, 2021 at 10:01 PM ^
Huh?!! Highly disagree with that. It is running in a theaters as well. Worth the price imo.
December 28th, 2021 at 10:19 PM ^
It’s worth the price? Worth the price of your life??? That’s what you’d assuredly be paying with if you dare set foot inside a building other than your own home with Omicron raging and roaring and tearing through the world!
December 27th, 2021 at 10:04 PM ^
My MIL about 2/3 thru finally picked up on the ahh "documentary" aspects of it. It's laid on pretty thick.

Sparty did discover a new isotope:
https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/938913
Forged at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at MSU, or NSCL, this isotope is so unstable, it falls apart before scientists can measure it directly. Yet this isotope that isn’t keen on existing can help researchers better understand how the atoms that define our existence are made.
Try finding one that doesn’t fall apart like your D against Ohio State! Hey-ooooooh!
December 27th, 2021 at 9:53 PM ^
Great movie, highly recommended!!!
December 27th, 2021 at 9:56 PM ^
No joke had to pause it and take a video to have handy. Fantastic stuff. (Movie was overall pretty enjoyable too.)
December 27th, 2021 at 9:57 PM ^
They do have a good astronomy dept
good movie but hits waaaaay to close to the bullseye to be enjoyable. For me anyway
December 27th, 2021 at 11:34 PM ^
Can you explain the latter sentence?
December 27th, 2021 at 11:39 PM ^
I don’t enjoy humor based on the idiocy of our current society. It’s way too depressing for me
havent enjoyed SNL since 2016 for the same reason.
December 28th, 2021 at 12:49 AM ^
Fair enough, that makes sense. I can understand that!
December 28th, 2021 at 7:21 AM ^
Michigan Arrogance I feel just like you about a number of things however this movie and most, certainly not all, of SNL I’ve found strangely comforting. Somehow this dark humor works for me in a way most doesn’t.
December 28th, 2021 at 8:37 AM ^
It was funny 10--15 years ago when Tina Fey did the Sarah Palin bit where they litterally had her read a xscript of an interview. It was harmless at the time b/c Palin was just an idiot that had no chance.
after it went from harmless to dangerous in 2016 - I don't enjoy walking into autocracy laughing as we hand this situation off to our kids
December 28th, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
I had a girlfriend who had to work next to an astronomy grad from MSU. I got to hear about how awful he was pretty much every day. He was the only co-worker she complained about.
December 28th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
I had to take a "basic science elective" as an engineering student in Michigan. This would have happened in 1985. I asked if I could take astronomy. My guidance counselor laughed. "No, a real science, not astronomy or psychology."
I ended up taking "Practical Botany" instead. It was an easy A, having grown up in a farming community. Still not sure why astronomy didn't count as "science."

I found it to be a mash up of Idiocracy and The Social Dilenma combined. Thanks MSU, for letting us know we’re going to die, ya pricks!
December 27th, 2021 at 10:03 PM ^
Did off-season begin already?
December 27th, 2021 at 10:03 PM ^
I started watching it; my wife mentioned this movie just before leaving for Chicago to visit her family.
Unrelated, but this quote is in the opening scene:
I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather. Not screaming in terror like his passengers. ~ Jack Handey
