You do realize that all mainstream media are owned by the same people right? It's called a false left / right paradigm. That's why more and more people are tuning the mainstream out. Like George Carlin said it's only created to make you think you have a choice. At the end of the day you bend over and take it.

That man knew as much about politics as Brady Hoke knows about special teams.
You do realize that there are a great many ways for news to be spread and that not all news outlets are owned by the same companies, don't you?
Oh, wait, you probably don't because you are too busy receiving your knowledge from a dead comedian.
The reality is that with the age of the internet news can be easily disseminated by individuals as much by corporations. The internet was a gamechanger in that regard. But even before then news/political views were widely disseminated through visual and audio media and in university classrooms.
The Left-Right paradigm is very real. I think you need to find better sources of information because you quite clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

You do realize he was speaking from a different time, right? George Carlin was a pretty intelligent guy, and I'd say his viewpoint was pretty spot on.
October 24th, 2015 at 4:34 PM ^
No offense Sal but George Carlin knew a heck of a lot more about life and politics than you do.

October 24th, 2015 at 2:19 PM ^
well you are in luck as every news source is carrying the story.
I would however refrain from reading the comments in the FOX link as they are pretty political. As would be expected from FOX.

Fun fact. I read a story that said the most factual new outlet available in the US is Al-Jazeera. Fox News, MSNBC etc were 45-65% truthful/accurate
That being said, I don't watch the news. Ever.

But... it has "Al" in it... must be a terrorist sympathizer news station....
/s
Actually, interesting story... back when Michigan students were protesting DB's firing last year, Al-Jazeera of all fucking news stations covered it LOL.
Turns out one of their anchors is a Michigan alum...
Interesting factoid of the day.

That's why I scorn those who think "independent" media is any better than "corporate" media. The key difference other than that the mainstrem media includes more of the spectacular (car chases, murder cases, etc) whereas the independent are more focused on political.

The point of my post was mainstream US media outlets are so politicized that they are almost as focused on the "spin" as they are reporting the facts.

Time Warner is H Clinton's 7th largest donor. Their coverage of the Democratic debate was crazy biased.

You can be 100% factual and still be biased.
There is more bias in story selection (or non-selection) than in twisitng the facts about a particular story.

Dude, do you read the comments on other news sites? They are every bit as insane and political as those at fox. There's a reason "Don't read the comments" is a pretty common meme in web news.
October 24th, 2015 at 2:34 PM ^
well the first comment was blaming liberals for the accident so I felt that was a little extreme.
October 24th, 2015 at 2:44 PM ^
If the bystanders were not stripped of their gun ownership by our communist government they would have been able to protect themselves and shoot the driver before she committed this terrorist attack.
October 24th, 2015 at 2:49 PM ^
+1
but you forgot to add the racist banter against black people along with the communists.
October 24th, 2015 at 2:51 PM ^
The non-self-aware anti-other prejudice is strong with these two.
If you don't think that there are people who will rush to say insane, inflammatory things in comments on all sides of the political spectrum, you are as myopic as the people who make those comments.
October 24th, 2015 at 3:02 PM ^
and self-righteousness is strong with this one. Was referring to FOX, if you had the reading comprehension of a 4th grader and attention span of a squirrel you may have been able to piece that together from the chronology of the thread. Had MSNBC been the topic at hand the commentary would have been a satire from the other end of the spectrum.
But thank you Captain Obvious for enlightening us that there are extreme opinions on both sides, particularly made by commenters on right or left leaning websites. Your insight and depth are not just a service to the community, but have helped me in my path towards personal growth and a deeper wisdom.

They're THAT out there.

Eh.. with HuffPo you know what you're gonna get with PC zealots and leftists. WIth Foxnews you get the righties + much more extremists/racists/xenophobes etc.
I think it has to do with the fact that you don't have to be logged into Facebook in order to comment.
ESPN and HuffPo switched over to Facebook and it helped quite a bit in toning down their trolls.
