OT: David Harns directly calls out Drew Sharp about plagiarized article

Submitted by Squeeks23 on

For those unfamiliar, Drew Sharp plagiarized an article written by David Harns that was posted to isportsweb.com. The original story written by Harns was about a friendship that developed between Connor Cook and Miranda Shay McCoy (a quadriplegic). Only for context here is Sharp's direct ripoff of the article.

This first bit sort of sets the tone:

I am, however, not satisfied with how Sharp has handled it. Put bluntly, I did my best to take the high road during this situation, assuming Drew Sharp would join me there eventually. Clearly, he has not.

I didn't want to quote the whole article just highlighted this first bit.

Drew Sharp Owes The Public An Apology

See for yourself or neg away. I thought anything anti-sharp is good.

Plagiarism is no joke; it's a transgression which normally gets people expelled, fired, disgraced, and discredited. I remember there was a young lady years ago who wrote a novel which was later found to have been plagiarized - she was in the news for weeks, went on talk shows to do damage control, and was pretty much vilified. And that was for a work of fiction, with no quotes or attributions from a real person. But nobody seems to care about Sharp's crime. I think it's fair to say that sports journalism isn't held in high regard as "real journalism." Either that, or a blogger's own research isn't subject to the same protection that a mainstream journalist's work would be This isn't just a failure of the Freep or Sharp. This indicates a systemic issue.

The article just shows again what a d-bag Sharp is, something all of us here have known for a long time.  And I got to read about Sharp without clicking on any of his articles.

Drewie completely abandoned his Twitter account, by the way -- his last post was in November 2015, when he tweeted, "State still sucks!"

I guess if you're gonna go out, might as well go out with a bang.

Of course, the only team he hates worse than MSU is his own alma mater.

The Freep keeps Drew Sharp around for the same reason ESPN continues to show First Take. The people involved are idiots, but they generate a lot of money for the parent company. I'm sure the Freep won't risk the financial loss of a well known blow hard like Sharp because of the fear of lack of revenue

I am not familar with the specifics of this situation.   However Drew Sharp is such an asshole prick, that I am shocked that he has any friends or family in the world.

Ive exchanged emails with Sharp once, and he was such a defensive jackass.  The guy has clear social issues and must be a very lonely, friendless person.

I mean really, who cares? I stopped reading the freep or listening to 97.1 because of people like Sharp, Foster, that Spartie from the Oakland press Valenti, and (Valenti wanna be) Dery all the Sparty Slappy's make the paper and radio impossible for me to endure.

not in Drew -- he got written off as a Douchasaurus Rex years ago.

In you, MGoBloggers.  A whole damn thread on DS, and not one soul thinks to post the sleeping picture of his Drewness.

We are better than this; I know it's the off-season and all, but gotta stay sharp, kids.

Whenever I see something like this I wonder how many times the person's done it in the past and didn't get caught.  In this case probably a lot.  Hard to believe it was a one time "mistake".  Seems like something he was very comfortable doing.
