I doubt they don't care about CFB. If they drop NBA and college football, two of the most visible markets they have in the US would be gone. Probably just a case of losing a bidding process.

Thank God I'm not the only one. Some act like dropping Adidas will cure everything. I've owned Adidas, Nike and UA and quality for all three have been equally shit. When you produce products in SE Asian sweatshops, the talk of quality is a ridiculous joke.

Adidas could at least hire someone with some sense of America fashion so that we aren't forced to run around in these stupid looking outfits.  Go to the UM store - how many articles of clothing would you be willing to be seen in public wearing?   4 out of the 30 listed?  I can't even get a suitable golf polo for God's sake.  Stop insisting on stripes and fcking shark-bite logos on everything you Eurropean commies.

Perhaps the obsession is odd, but I'm still wearing my Nike gear and it's getting a bit long in the tooth.  I have seen very little that Adidas makes that I want to buy. Perhaps my tastes are strange, but Nike satisfied them and Adidas has not.

have been rejected by the athletic department. As I have posted several times and the good old INTERNET confirms, the companies often make their products in the same factories, with the same workers, of the same materials, trade and vie for designers, sue one another for product infringement, etc. (A lot like the computer companies.) This is the stupidest issue ever.

And everyone forgets that we dumped Nike because thoughful Michigan kids wanted to make a statement about those self-same factories and cheap labor.

What would REALLY be neat is if Hackett looked into some of those issues before deciding who we go with next.

Cincinnati hasn't been a basketball school for 10yrs. They make their money from football. That's why they are renovating Nippert and still have a dump of an arena for bball.

A school switches from Nike to UA or Adidas and it's just a business decision.  A school switches from Adidas to UA or Nike and it's because Adidas is horrible.  Got it.

Adidas has said that they are shifting their strategy to individual endorsements in the case of the NBA, not teams or indeed the league per se, so there is that. They have expressed an interest in a renewed effort in the college football but also high school football too. Per a few business articles, this is all being done with the help of an "innovation team".

I know people here love Nike, but I like the fact that UA gives each school/team their own unique style and template.  I've heard people voice complaints, but it seems like Nike and Adidas get caught up in selling their own brand than in selling the school/team they represent.

Yeah, it seemed that half of the teams in the elite eight wore Michigan Uniforms with just different colors and a different name on the front.

And remembe a few years ago when we had the BB uniforms eith just the block M on the front.  UNC had the same uniforms with their logo on the front, and so did several others.  Not ot mention the Wisky-Nebraska football game wher both teams had uniforms with a big W or N on the front of the jersey like the firs under the lights Michigan.

UA botched the Mayland unis and I think that early attempt of theirs will be burned into everyone's mind for a while. And that's a bumner because I think they've gotten much better since then. I know not everyone agrees but I really like what they've done with Notre Dame.

The founder of Adidas is famous for making the statement "I don't want to deal with rags." when the idea of selling clothing was first presented to him.  I guess he would be happy.

I think this just comes down to money (and Tuberville has had a long relationship w/ UA).  Adidas was paying ~$1.5mil/yr while UA is paying ~$5mil/yr.  Until UC leaves the AAC they'll be treading water in football and basketball regardless.

I love Adidas. I run in their shoes and their running gear fits me (tall) better than Nike and UA.

That being said, I'm not a big fan of most of the Michigan stuff they put out.

I've had better experience with Adidas, I've had more Nike sneakers fall apart quicker than I anticipated. I'm in the Army so I put my running shoes through a lot, I've had a Nike shoe "blow out" on a run in just a couple of months. I'm pretty much an Adidas guy now but I won't be butt hurt if Michigan changes like some people will be if they don't.

They just added Miami and Arizona State, so it doesn't seem they are exiting the business.

I wonder if every time they lose one, it will make them that much more desperate to keep Michigan.

Adidas just hasn't seemed to have made the headways into the US that they've wanted to over the last decade with their current sponsorhips. I think they've refocused on their core of soccer with Chelsea and Real Madrid by adding Manchester United. They've still gone after Miami in the college world. Letting go of Michigan would be interesting, considering the fan base.

Sam Webb had a good discussion w/ John U. Bacon today on Michigan possibly switching. Its available on the Michigan Insider podcast if anyone is interested.

adidas is going to throw everything at Michigan, but if Hackett cared about the money, I don't think he would be surveying all the athletes at Michigan (who want Nike).

Very interesting.

Michigan is making $4MM more than the highest Nike school presently.  That represents a good amount of the profit that the department enjoys every year.  If Michigan leaves Adidas, that money will need to be made up somehow -- hopefully whatever the new deal is, it's a sweet one.
